The Political Personality of U.S. Vice President Mike Pence
This working paper presents the results of an indirect assessment of the personality of U.S. vice president Mike Pence, from the conceptual perspective of personologist Theodore Millon. Information concerning Pence was collected from biographical sources and media reports and synthesized into a personality profile using the Millon Inventory of Diagnostic Criteria (MIDC), which yields 34 normal and maladaptive personality classifications congruent with Axis II of DSM-5.
The personality profile yielded by the MIDC was analyzed on the basis of interpretive guidelines provided in the MIDC and Millon Index of Personality Styles manuals. Pence’s primary personality pattern was found to be Conscientious/dutiful, complemented by secondary Dominant/asserting, Ambitious/confident, and Accommodating/cooperative features and a minor Outgoing/congenial tendency. With the exception of the outgoing tendency, Pence’s profile is nearly identical to that of the more introverted 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who has a minor Retiring/reserved tendency.
In the absence of concurrent primary personality patterns serving to moderate or offset high conscientiousness, Pence may be described as a dutiful conformist personality type with a conscientious deliberator leadership style. Leaders with this personality profile are characteristically prudent, proper, dignified, dependable, and more principled than most personality types. They are highly organized, with a strong work ethic and careful attention to detail. Dutiful and diligent, conscientious leaders excel in crafting public policy, though they are not typically regarded as visionary or transformational leaders.
The major implication of the study is that it offers an empirically based personological framework for identifying psychological attributes on the part of Pence that might serve to complement, amplify, or attenuate personality traits that drive President Donald Trump’s leadership behavior as chief executive
Trends in Financial Literacy
It is one thing to measure the financial literacy rate of a country, but it is a whole other story to take action and make improvements. Often times, efforts are put forth to try to increase the financial literacy of children in individual schools, but a lot of other children and people do not get reached. This made me wonder if there is something that can be done to an economy as a whole to increase the financial literacy rate of a county’s population. From here I developed my specific research question: “What is the correlation between the financial literacy rate of a country and the well-being of its economy and population?
Two birds with one stone: The use of screen-time multitasking and its effect on attention and comprehension scores in college students
In today’s world, the use of media outlets has become an essential facet of daily life. One of the largest forms of media is distributed through the television streaming company Netflix. Netflix has become the world’s central line for screen-time entertainment, with over 62 million subscribers utilizing its streaming services (Mander, 2015). The present study asked whether screen-time multitasking affects attention and retention abilities in academic performance. In order to examine the main effect of media multitasking, I conducted a randomly assigned, single blind between groups study that manipulated the use of media multitasking and comprehension testing. An experimental group of undergraduate students (N=10) were told to complete a reading passage and follow-up comprehension questions while having a comedic five minute segment of “The Office” play in the background. The control group of undergraduate students (N=10) read the passage and took the comprehension test in a silent setting, without media influence. The results indicated that the experimental group required significantly longer times to complete the reading and comprehension questions (p\u3c.013) In addition, the group exposed to media multitasking scored significantly lower on the comprehension questions (p\u3c.035) and reported lower levels of confidence in relation to overall comprehension of the reading passage (p\u3c.04)
Presence Matters: Performing Arts at Nonviolent Activism
A highly interactive two act street play with three scenes in each act. As performed on the streets of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore. Intermission will provide a partial debriefing to understand better and learn from each other during the play itself. The content of this short play can take up any issue or situation and through awareness-based systematic interpretation we can rise strong in each moment where nonviolence is necessary. By listening to both internal and external messaging systems we can actually stay current, tune in and be more attentive to each moment as it arises and passes. Come to this forum to be more involved and fare forward as nonviolent activists in your current situation or family, household, campus, workplace, field of play, legislature, court, church, synagogue, mosque, temple et al
