On Silence in the Rule of St. Benedict: A Study of Chapter 6: 1-6
This paper is a study of Chapter 6: On Silence in The Rule of St. Benedict. It studies verses 1-6. It briefly includes verses 7 and 8, which reinforce Benedict\u27s value of humility and the exhortation to refrain from useless conversation. This study shows the value of silence as a way to stop all interior and exterior chatter in order to have the chance to listen to God, one’s neighbors and oneself. This study also gives a deeper understanding of the Latin word taciturn Tate which emphasizes a state of being which opens the person for a deeper listening
Christianity and Fear: The Neuropsychological Processes Involved in the Relationship Between Fear and Religion
Religion frames the lives and minds of individuals who practice the Christian faith. Regarding the mind, this statement can be understood both figuratively and literally. The thought processes of human beings who claim to believe in God are strongly influenced by their perspective of Deity and what they think God\u27s primary characteristic is. While some view God as loving, others view God as mainly angry and punishing. The way this question is answered by an individual reveals much about his or her neurocircuitry and which brain structures are most active and developed. These circuits and structures then impact the behaviors and responses of the individual, especially in dealing with tasks that involve religious undertones
Women Count for Peace and Security: A Story of Collaboration in the Philippines
On 31 October 2000, United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325, the first Women, Peace, and Security resolution, was adopted by the United Nations Security Council. The resolution mandated UN member states to increase women’s participation in decision-making in matters that relate to peace and security, particularly in conflict prevention, conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and post-conflict reconstruction. Years after its adoption, however, implementation was slow and scattered and hardly changed the invisibility and marginalization of women in decision-making on matters of peace and security, where women have a unique perspective on keeping and making peace and have a historical tradition of doing so. This essay shows how collaboration among UN member states and agencies, government, and civil society accelerated the implementation of the groundbreaking resolution in the Philippines

Coloring the Conservation Conversation: an evening with J. Drew Lanham
Dr. Lanham will discuss what it means to embrace the full breadth of his African-American heritage and his deep kinship to nature and adoration of birds. The convergence of ornithologist, college professor, poet, author and conservation activist blend to bring our awareness of the natural world and our moral responsibility for it forward in new ways. Candid by nature — and because of it — Dr. Lanham will examine how conservation must be a rigorous science and evocative art, inviting diversity and race to play active roles in celebrating our natural world
Minnesota and the Packaged Food Revolution
Minnesota companies created Wheaties, Cheerios, Bisquick, Spam, frozen pizza, and other food products we take for granted today but didn’t exist 50 or 100 years ago. Betty Crocker, the Jolly Green Giant, and the Pillsbury Doughboy were all born in Minnesota to market these new-fangled inventions.
How did Minnesota become a major hub of America’s packaged food industry? We will address this question by looking at the evolution of Minnesota’s economy from small farms and processing facilities o an integrated industry combining mass production, scientific research, marketing, and professional management
