The Mystery of Faith in Dialogue with the History of God and Human Beings
The mysteries of God are unfathomable, and for this reason theology uses analogies to express its meanings. The purpose of this paper is to develop some reflections on how I understand theology. To begin, I would like to make an analogy to highlight the importance of dialogue, stories, and their contexts in theology: we are made of stories, we are the stories we build with words, our contexts are determined by the way we dialogue, and stories shape the cosmogony that gives meaning to our lives. In the construction of stories, dialogues and contexts are fundamental because they connect the parties involved, bring life to the story, and give meaning to the narrative
Idolatry in Ancient Rome Can Be a Teaching Tool Today
This essay analyzes idolatry from the context of both the early Christians before the 3rd century as well as the interpretation of the modern day through looking at the early Christian martyrs and their defiance of Rome as an act of abstaining from the sin of idolatry while seeing how contemporary Christians can abstain from idolatry in the modern era, learning from ancient wisdom how to battle this sin
Racism and Resistance Through Art Among Afro-Brazilians in Salvador, Brazil
Afro-Brazilians in Salvador, Brazil, experience high rates of inequality, racism, and poverty. The lived experiences of Afro-Brazilians are impacted by the history of colonization and slavery, which has resulted in high income and education inequalities. Despite these injustices, Afro-Brazilians have maintained diasporic identities and cultural traditions in their communities. Based on ethnographic research that took place in Salvador, Brazil, in 2024, this project examines how Afro-Brazilians have built resilience in the face of inequality by investing in and maintaining a wealth of African cultural traditions such as dance, religion, music, and art
The Effect of Calorie Restriction on Humoral Responses towards the Influenza Vaccine
Calorie restriction (CR) - a reduction in caloric intake without malnutrition - has been widely studied for its impact on lifespan and the onset of age-related diseases. Emerging research indicates that CR also influences immune function, though its effects can vary depending on the degree of restriction, duration, and individual characteristics. This study examined how CR effects vaccine-specific antibody responses following influenza vaccination. Male and female mice were maintained on either a control diet or a calorie-restricted diet and vaccinated with an inactivated influenza virus vaccine. Antibody titers were measured 28 days post-vaccination to evaluate the magnitude of the humoral immune response. Sex-specific differences in antibody titers were also evaluated as biological sex is known to modulate immune function. This work contributes to a deeper understanding of how nutritional status and sex intersect to shape immune responsiveness. Given the relevance of both deliberate CR as a health intervention and involuntary undernutrition in many populations, these findings have broad implications for public health, vaccine responsiveness, and immune system agin
