    Online Quiz in English Assessment at Islamic University

    This research investigates the impact of online quizzes on student engagement and learning outcomes in English courses at an Islamic university in Jambi. Utilizing a quantitative approach and survey design, the research employed a questionnaire with 20 positive statements across four themes: ease of use, interactivity and engagement, learning effectiveness, and user satisfaction. The sample consisted of 150 students who completed the survey. Results revealed that 80% of respondents expressed positive feedback across all themes. Students reported that online quizzes are easy to use, engaging, and effective in enhancing their understanding and retention of course material. The interactive features, such as instant feedback and gamification, were particularly appreciated for maintaining motivation. Overall, the high level of student satisfaction highlights the effectiveness of online quizzes as a supplementary educational tool. These findings suggest that integrating online quizzes into the curriculum can significantly improve student engagement and learning outcomes. The research underscores the broader potential of educational technology in transforming learning experiences and emphasizes the need for continuous refinement and innovation in digital learning tools

    Students' Perceptions on Using Extending Concept Through Language Activities to Improve Students' Reading Comprehension Skill

    The pupose of this study was to understand students' perceptions about potential and benefits of improving Extending Concept Through Language Activities (ECOLA) method as a tool for improving students' reading comprehension skill. This study used a descriptive qualitative with the subjects of 19 students of the 10th grade of Vocational High School of SMK Islam Gondanglegi. Data collection was carried out through questionnaire based on likert scale and interview. In collecting data, questionnaire were made to collect information on respondents’ perceptions of the ECOLA method and its impact on their reading comprehension skills, while the interview were made to obtain further information regarding students perceptions about using the ECOLA method. Based on the analysis of the results, researcher concluded that the ECOLA method generally has positive acceptance for improving reading comprehension skills. This is evident from the results of the questionnaire which shows the high motivation and enthusiasm of the participants. 65% of respondents agreed that this method had improved their reading comprehension skills. Additionally, 80% of respondents agreed that ECOLA helped them understand reading material better. Likewise, in interviews, participants expressed appreciation and satisfaction with ECOLA's approach, which includes interactive discussions and enhanced learning experiences

    This can be seen from the lack of knowledge in making simple sentences owned by students and difficulties in composing sentences properly. In addition, students' lack of attention to the teacher's explanation, lack of writing practice and feel less confident and worried that they will be laughed at by the surrounding environment if they make mistakes. So this research want to know the implementation of scramble technique in teaching literacy and students and teacher perception on the use of scramble teachnique in teaching literacy. This study uses case study. . The object of research is fourth grade students at Sanggar Bimbingan Hulu Kelang Malaysia as many as 6 students. From this study suggest that scramble technique is an effective pedagogical tool to improve writing skills of fourth grade. By combining structured guidance with engaging and interactive activities, this method successfully improves the ability to write simple sentences and self-confidence of fourth grade students of Sanggar Bimbingan Hulu Kelang Malaysia.&nbsp

    Developing Preservice Biology Teachers' Creative Thinking Skills Through Integrating E-Books into Problem-Based Learning. This research aims to find a low solution quality of teachers in North Maluku Province, Indonesia. One alternative proposed is integrating e-books into problem-based learning to see the impact on preservice biology teachers' creative thinking skills. Pre-experiment-bookstall research methodology and one group's pretest-posttest design are used. This research was carried out in 2024, and the research location was the Study Program for Biology Education, University of Khairun, Indonesia. The research subjects were preservice biology teachers. The selection of research subjects was based on the initial ability level (high, medium, low), so the number of research subjects was 6 (2 groups). The research results concluded that integrating e-books into a problem-based learning model was very effective in improving the creative thinking skills of preservice biology teachers. Further research also makes it possible to see the differences in the effect of providing learning activity links (e-books) before or after offline lectures are conducted

    An Investigation on the Implementation of the Learning Cycle 5E to Improve Student Activeness. This research aims to investigate the implementation of the learning Cycle 5E model in improving student activeness. The objects of this research are scientific works in the form of journal articles and research results. The research method employed is a literature review through analyzed journals. The technique used involves analyzing three pieces of literature on the Learning Cycle 5E to assess the impact of this model on student activeness in the learning process. The analysis results indicate that each phase of the Learning Cycle 5E model can improve student activeness during the learning process. Based on the three studies, from Cycle I to Cycle II, there is a noted increase in the average student activeness: Researcher 1 experienced a 3.35% increase, Researcher 2 saw an 8.17% increase, and Researcher 3 had a 15.84% increase. Future research should consider comparative studies of the Learning Cycle 5E model with other pedagogical approaches, longitudinal assessments of its long-term effects, and investigations into its application across diverse educational settings and technology integration

    Speed vs. Understanding: A Study of Student Readers

    Reading is one of four skills that is needed to learn the English language. However, if it only reads without comprehending the passage, it only wastes time and will be useless. Therefore, a good reader should have a reading technique to make the reading process more effective. This research aimed to determine whether there is a correlation between students' reading speed and reading comprehension in the fourth-semester English Education Study Program of Universitas Islam Kadiri. This research used a correlation method. The sample of this research was used Non-Probability Sampling. It was a saturated sample. The sample of this research was 4th semester of class A English Students at Kadiri Islamic University. In collecting the data, the researcher used reading speed and multiple choices tests as instruments. A reading speed test was used to know students" reading speed, and a multiple choice test was used to know their reading comprehension. The researcher used SPSS program to analyze the data and to find out the correlation between two variables. The result showed that there is no significant correlation between students" reading speed and reading comprehension The result show that data is 0,879 level (2-tailed) , it means that 0,879 > 0,05. So, Null hypothesis (Ho) accepted alternative and hypothesis (Ha) is rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that there is no positive correlation between students" reading speed and their reading comprehension in the fourth semester English Education Study Program of Universitas Islam Kadiri. &nbsp

    Application Creative Problem Solving to Improve Junior High School Students' Creative Thinking Skills in Environmental Pollution Materials

    Education is an effort to improve the quality of life and human resources. One of these educational goals is to increase student creativity in learning at school. The purpose of this study was to determine the increase in students' creative thinking skills, learning implementation, and the responses of class VII E students of SMP Negeri 2 Semen after implementing the learning process by applying the creative problem solving learning model to environmental pollution material. The research method used is Pre-Experimental Design with the experimental design used is One-Group-Pretest-Posttest. The research subjects in this study were students of class VII E with a total of 34 students at SMP Negeri 2 Semen Kediri. Data collection using tests (pretest-posttest), observation sheets of learning implementation, and student response questionnaires. Based on the results of the study after carrying out learning by applying creative problem solving it was found that students' creative thinking skills increased with an N-Gain value of 0.75 with very high criteria. The application of the creative problem solving learning model in class VII E of SMP Negeri 2 Semen was carried out well, this can be seen from the mode value of the results of observing the implementation of learning, namely 4. Student responses to the application of creative problem solving learning models in environmental pollution material received a value of 85, 10% with very high criteria which means students give a positive response. The conclusion from this study is that the creative problem solving learning model influences the creative thinking skills of class VII E students of SMP Negeri 2 Semen Kediri

    HOW ENGLISH TEACHERS’ LESSON PLANS INCORPORATE LEARNING AND INNOVATION SKILLS

    English instruction in Indonesia now includes learning and innovation skills, also known as the 4Cs: communication, cooperation, critical thinking, and creativity. The purpose of this study is to determine how much eighth-grade English teachers use 4Cs skills in their lesson plans. This content analysis uses information from 10 eighth-grade lesson plans from various schools in Jakarta and Bekasi. The learning objectives, learning materials, methods, and assessment were the main topics of the lesson plan components. Even though there were dominating indicators from each skill—communication skill indicators were the most common and creative indicators were the least—nine lesson plans were identified to incorporate 4C. Furthermore, learning objectives were only found in the communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills; learning media was found in the communication skills; and assessment was found in the communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. The lesson plan components that integrated all skills were learning activities and other lesson plan components.

    ONLINE LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT ON SECONDARY SCHOOLS: AN INVESTIGATION ON STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION AND PREFERENCE

    Since the beginning of development, language assessments have been provided on paper. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has shifted from paper-based to online. This phenomenon is still happening even though the pandemic has subsided, considering the advantages revealed. However, did students perceive them well? And did they prefer them as well? This present study aimed to answer those questions using a survey study design. The data were taken from 300 high school students who have carried out online language assessments using e-questionnaire. The questionnaire covered four aspects: ease of access, instruction, benefit, and motivation. Further, the questionnaire clarified students’ preference for the assessment type. Students’ positive perceptions toward language online assessments were found by the descriptive statistics results. They also tended to choose the online assessment over the paper-based one

    Implementation of Student Effectiveness Using Project Based Learning (PJBL) Learning Model to Improve Learning Outcomes in Class X-ATU 1 Students at SMKN 1 Gondang

    This research was conducted with the aim of improving student learning outcomes using the Project Based Learning (PJBL) learning model in the subjects of Physics Science students at SMK Negeri 1 Gondang. This type of research uses the Classroom Action Research (PTK) method. The subjects are class X-ATU1 students at SMK Negeri 1 Gondang totaling 32 students. This research has a good impact on educational approaches that emphasize learning through real-world projects, where students are actively involved in exploration, collaboration, and problem solving. Real-world relevance and active student engagement are key focuses in PJBL, which encourages the development of critical thinking skills, creativity, and skills. This can be conveyed through the results of cycle I &; cycle II research, in cycle I with 22 students showing a percentage of 68% and carried out again in cycle II there was an increase in learning outcomes with 30 students showing a percentage of 82%.  So in this study in cycles 1&2 experienced an increase in student learning outcomes
