    No full text
This article focuses on the British treatment of prisoners during the occupation of Newport from December 7, 1776 through October 25, 1779. During this time, Newport was one of the main British army and naval strongholds in North America. The British treatment of prisoners in Newport has largely been ignored. Previous studies of the British treatment of American prisoners either do not or rarely mention Newport, and previous works on the British military occupation of Newport do not or barely discuss the topic
