Theme - A Feel for the Future of Bioengineering
Smashing martial arts boards with your prosthetic hand is not in the user manual, but, if it is called the Ability Hand, and if it is capable of doing that, then why not? Impressively, the same hand is also able to pick up individual raspberries with ease. Once a staple of science fiction, the future of bionic prosthetics is already here

A Short Commentary of Nanotechnology on Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese medicines (TCM) have many bioactive ingredients or parts, but there are still some limitations for medical field application, such as solubility and absorptivity in the human body. Nanotechnology is an effective way to enhance its bioavailability. How do we incorporate traditional Chinese medicines (TCM) with nanotechnology? This short commentary discusses the background of nanotechnology and its research progress with TCM as well as the future aspects
A Short Commentary of the Quality Control on Radix Salvia miltiorrhiza and its Application for COVID-19
Radix Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen) is a Chinese herbal used in China to treat irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, insomnia, swelling liver, and angina pectoris. It also has various pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, anti-tumor, anti-atherogenesis, and anti-diabetes. However, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), e.g., Danshen, lacks quality control. Pesticide residues and heavy metals are the most important problems, although Danshen may cure many diseases, even SARS-CoV-2 in a COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, the present short commentary discusses the background of Danshen, quality management, and its application to COVID-19
Study of the Efficacy of Probiotic Bacteria to Reduce Acrylamide in Food and In Vitro Digestion
In this study, probiotic bacteria as a new post-processing approach to reduce acrylamide (AA) was investigated. The AA reduction ability of selected Lactobacillus strains and Bifidobacterium strains was demonstrated in (a) AA chemical solutions; (b) food matrices (biscuits and chips) and (c) in vitro digestion. The findings showed tested bacteria exhibited AA reduction ability which was probiotic strain-, AA concentration-, probiotic concentration-, incubation time- and pH-dependent. L. acidophilus LA 45 and B. longum ATCC 15707 (109 CFU/mL) showed the highest AA reduction (86.85 and 88.85%, respectively) when exposed to 350 ng/mL AA solution for 8 h. The findings also demonstrated that AA reduction ability of selected probiotic strains was pH- and food matrixdependent in both food matrices (9.45–22.15%) and in vitro digestion model (10.91–21.29%). This study showed probiotic bacteria can lower AA bioaccessibility under simulated digestion
The effect of employee uniform on job Satisfaction: A case of the housekeeping department in A luxury five-star hotel in Hong kong, china
Purpose – The aim of this study is to advance the understanding of Hong Kong’s housekeeping culture by examining how employee uniforms and the image they project influence job satisfaction amongst the housekeeping department employees of a luxury five-star Hotel in Hong Kong, China. Design – Using a purposive sampling method, ten semi-structured interviews were conducted with the housekeeping staff of a luxury five-star Hotel in Hong Kong. Content analysis was conducted to identify data patterns. Findings – Findings categorized four determinants of uniform influencing job satisfaction: fit to wearer, appropriate materials, color and design, and hotel brand image. The findings confirm that staff uniforms play an important role in demonstrating the hotel’s brand identity, improving job satisfaction, operational efficiency, and staff-management relationships. Apart from the aesthetic design, management should put operational practicality and functionality into account by getting employees to participate when launching and implementing any change initiatives on staff uniforms. Communication and mutual understanding between management and employees are imperative in understanding each other’s concerns. Originality of the research – Using a qualitative approach, the results offered an empirical basis to guide hotel management and administrators in making decisions about uniforms
