How Pinduoduo’s E-Commerce Experience Shapes Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty: Leveraging Social Networks
The study formulated a research model grounded in Expectation Confirmation Theory, specifically examining the role of e-commerce experience in customer satisfaction and loyalty within the context of Pinduoduo. Hypothesized relationships were established between the core dimensions of e-commerce experience and the e-commerce customer engagement triad. To analyze the gathered data and evaluate the research hypotheses, structural equation modeling was employed. The research findings indicate that the core dimensions of e-commerce experience, namely e-commerce user interface quality, information quality, security risk avoidance perception, and privacy perception, exert positive influences on both customer satisfaction and trust. Moreover, the study reveals a positive relationship between customer satisfaction, trust, and customer loyalty. These findings have significant implications for e-commerce platform operators, highlighting the importance of enhancing customer experiences and building stronger customer relationships through targeted improvements in these critical factors
Interview - Immersive Journey Through the Impressionist Era
In 1874, Paris hosted the first Impressionist exhibition, a groundbreaking event in the art world that is now being recreated through virtual reality (VR) technology. This exclusive interview features three co-producers: Agnès Garaudel, General Manager of GEDEON Experiences; representatives from the Musée d\u27Orsay; and Emmanuel Guerriero, co-founder of Excurio and creator of immersive exploration formats and their related narrative frameworks. They discuss their latest immersive exhibition, Tonight with the Impressionists, Paris 1874 – a VR Experience , and how it allows audiences to deeply experience a creatively rich era. The exhibition will run at HKDI Gallery from January to May 2025
Event Report - A Fashion Exploration Journey / Douglas Gunn, Co-Curator of The Fashion Union
Douglas Gunn co-founded The Vintage Showroom, a London-based, definitive collection of 20th-century menswear. Growing up during the 1980\u27s, a period marked by the popularity of American vintage styles, has fuelled in Gunn a parallel interest in classic American cinema and vintage clothing. Over the years, Gunn has avidly collected vintage pieces and focused on showcasing the craftsmanship and durability of past garments. Gunn co-curates the Hong Kong Design Institute\u27s (HKDI) upcoming exhibition, The Fashion Union , which centres around workwear. Here, he tells us more about the exhibition and his views on the current trends in workwear and vintage fashion
Ni/Nb2O5 as a noble-metal-free catalyst for the chemical upcycling of waste polyolefin plastics
The resource utilization of waste polyolefin plastics is expected to be achieved through upgrading and reconstruction processes, but the primary scientific challenge lies in the development of efficient and cost-effective catalysts. In this paper, we present Ni nanoparticles supported on Nb₂O₅ with tunable acid sites (Ni/Nb2O5-T) as noble-metal-free catalysts for the upcycling of waste plastics. These catalysts efficiently facilitate a one-pot, solvent-free hydrogenolysis-isomerization of waste plastics, converting them into aromatic-free, highly branched alkane aviation fuels under mild conditions. Notably, the bifunctional Ni/Nb2O5-400 catalyst, characterized by highly dispersed metallic Ni sites and strong Brønsted acid sites, promotes key reactions such as hydrogenation/dehydrogenation, skeletal rearrangements, and β-scission of linear low-density polyethylene. This process achieves 100% conversion with a yield of over 80% for liquid products at 250 °C and 3 MPa H₂ for 4 hours. The carbon distribution of the resulting liquid fuels primarily ranges from C6 to C18, with 71% consisting of isoparaffins, highlighting them as promising candidates for aviation fuels. Additionally, the Ni/Nb2O5-400 catalyst exhibits versatile activity, delivering high yields of highly branched alkane aviation fuels through the chemical upcycling of various types of waste polyolefin plastics. A techno-economic analysis further confirms that this Ni-catalyzed plastic-to-fuel process offers significant economic advantages, underscoring its potential for industrial-scale implementation
A multi-country and region comparison of the news coverage of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games
The study analysed news coverage of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games in newspapers in 17 countries or regions (Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Oman, Portugal, Chinese Taipei, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, the United Kingdom and Vietnam). In addition, Facebook posts of the respective newspaper organisations were also analysed. This is a quantitative study and offers an extensive comparative overview of trends and patterns in media representation of the Games in different parts of the world. The results showed that the total number of articles and photographs varied greatly between countries and regions. Analysis of the Facebook posts showed a similar trend to newspapers. The subject of interest is predominantly still the male athletes, and particularly those competing in wheelchairs. In nearly all the publications sampled, media coverage featured more content of their local athletes than foreigners. Overall, there appears to be a great disparity in terms of coverage and content of the Paralympic Games between the 17 countries or regions
Integrating Artificial Neural Networks into the Gravity Model: Analyzing Apparel Export from Belt and Road Asian Countries to the United States
Launched by China in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) aims to enhance trade connectivity between Asia and the global market while fostering mutually beneficial economic cooperation among participant countries. While previous research has highlighted the positive effects of the BRI on trade between China and its partner nations along the Belt and Road (B&R), there is limited understanding of its impact on trade among B&R countries themselves. This study seeks to fill this gap by examining bilateral apparel trade patterns, specifically focusing on clothing exports from China and 21 Asian B&R countries/cities to the United States (US). To analyze these trade flows, we employed a refined gravity trade model augmented with the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) and utilized an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) framework. Additionally, an Extra Trees Regression (ETR) analysis was conducted to explore the factors influencing apparel export values to the US. Data spanning from 2008 to 2024 across the 22 countries/cities were analyzed. The findings indicate that the BRI trade corridor significantly impacts apparel exports from China and other developing B&R Asian countries to the US. Notably, the ANN results indicate that incorporating the LPI feature does not enhance model performance. Furthermore, our results demonstrate that the ANN offers superior predictive accuracy compared to traditional regression models, with ETR serving as a valuable complementary tool to enhance the ANN analysis. Future research can expand on this work by exploring the application of ANN and ETR in new contexts to examine the BRI trade flow from other countries in the Far East and broader regions
Skills Formation for Economic Growth : The Case of Hong Kong
This book explores the vocational education programmes of Hong Kong, programmes that are repeatedly noted for their excellence.
The book traces the founding and development of the Vocational Training Council of Hong Kong, which was set up in 1982 to offer sub-degree programmes in vocational and professional education and training. It shows how it transformed itself from an institution seen by industry, government and the public alike as not meeting the needs of Hong Kong to one that has spearheaded the development of this form of education in Hong Kong, including offering degree programmes in these areas through its Technological and Higher Education Institute.
Written by a leading scholar of vocational education with extensive experience of devising and implementing vocational education programmes, it offers this as a valuable resource to students and scholars of education, particularly in an Asian context, as well as of vocational and professional education and training
