The cultivation of social consciousness in Chinese urban communities from the perspective of community governance : taking the community in Shandong as an example
The social consciousness of residents has been changing since China\u27s reform and opening up. The grassroots governance of the society has also become more and more difficult. In the last decade, the Chinese government has been improving the level of social community governance, and since COVID-19 pandemic, the government has been strengthening democratic social governance. It has become very possible to cultivate social consciousness and democratic consciousness among the residents in the community. I conducted two rounds of questionnaires and three rounds of interviews in several communities in Shandong province.
I interviewed over 30 residents, visited a dozen communities, and distributed 1,314 questionnaires. By compiling and analyzing the studies of Cohen, Fei Xiaotong, Arnstein, Zhou Xueguang, Liu Jianjun, Pateman, and others, I determined to establish a research framework based on the breadth of community participation, the depth of community participation, and the social consciousness of democratic participation. The final research results were obtained with the help of quantitative analysis and interviews.
Through qualitative and quantitative analysis, I determined the basic situation of local social governance and also understood the relationship between participation in social governance and residents\u27 social consciousness. I found that the traditional Chinese community complied with the basic situation of social governance and was an organic community. There is a positive relationship between residents\u27 social consciousness and social participation, and residents\u27 social participation and residents\u27 social consciousness influence each other. The reason that residents\u27 social consciousness does not fully match with their actual participation is that although residents\u27 social consciousness is in place, they lack the corresponding ability and willingness to participate socially, and residents are not willing to actively participate in the governance of the community. Although residents do not realize that they are involved in community governance, they are actually not only participating, but they are also receiving some feedback and inculcation, which enhances their social participation ability. In addition, women play an important role in the governance of the community. The role of women was found to be very significant in the interviews. Through women in the community may be a breakthrough point for developing a sense of community among residents. This study aims to provide necessary recommendations for grassroots community governance in China, to help communities and societies improve and enhance their management practices and levels, and to provide a window for outsiders to observe Chinese communities

Socioeconomic status, health, and health behaviours of school-aged adolescents : the psychosocial mechanisms of social capital
Psychosocial social capital is advocated as a protective health asset and a non-monetary safety net that protect adolescents’ developmental outcomes against effects of socioeconomic inequalities. This study utilised advanced mixed research methods, and socioecological and health asset approaches to offer evidence on social capital’s psychosocial mechanisms and pathways through which socioeconomic status (SES) affects adolescents’ health and health behaviours. This is to offer appropriate policy and practice proposals in Ghana. The quantitative and qualitative studies respectively employed a multi-stage stratified cross-sectional survey data of 2,068 and 54 in-school Ghanaian adolescents (13-18yrs) in focus group discussions. Various univariate and bivariate (cross-tabulation-Chi square, Spearman correlation) statistical analyses, bootstrapping mediation, and moderation analysis using structural equation modelling techniques in SPSS-AMOS (controlling for sociodemographic factors (SDFs)), and qualitative content analysis were completed. Bivariate analyses revealed significant associations among SES, social capital, health, and health behaviour outcomes as well as variations in health and health behaviours by SES, social capital, and SDFs. From regression analyses in mediation models, SES positively predicted satisfaction with self-confidence (SSC) and physical activity (PA) but not self-rated health (SRH), multiple health/psychosomatic symptoms (MHPS), and multiple health risks behaviour (MHRB) after accounting for social capital’s effects. Again, the measures of social capital comprising family sense of belonging (FSB), family autonomy support (FAS), family control (FC), perceived social support from family (PSS-Fa), community sense of belonging (CSB), school sense of belonging (SSB), school autonomy support (SAS), and peer-based social network (PSN) showed significant varying effects on SRH, MHPS, SSC, MHRB, and PA. Moreover, social capital (FSB, FAS, FC, PSS-Fa, CSB, and PeerR) mediated the relationship between the adolescents’ SES and SRH, SSC, MHPS, PA, and MHRB. Furthermore, a moderation model revealed social capital (CSB, PSS-Fa) as a moderator in the relationship between SES and SRH, PA, and MHRB. The qualitative findings also confirmed that, indeed, psychosocial social capital offers protective mechanisms against SES’ effects on adolescents’ health and health behaviours. Explicitly, parent-child relationship, FSB, PSS-Fa, FAS, FC, peer relationships, peer social support, CSB, community autonomy support and community social support were reported as protective health assets for promoting especially poor adolescents’ health outcomes (happiness, perceived meaning in life) and health behaviours. Generally, findings from both methods assert that SES and psychosocial social capital are vital social determinants of school-aged adolescents’ health and health behaviours. Psychosocial social capital is revealed to empower adolescents to build resilience against SES’ effects. The family, peers, and community contexts offer the most crucial protective health assets and non-monetary safety nets against SES’ effects on Ghanaian adolescents’ health status, mental health, and health-promoting and risk behaviours. This study offers original research and theoretical contributions for the application of social capital as a component/complement in policies targeting young people’s socioeconomic conditions, health, and health behaviours such as Ghana’s Child and Family Welfare Policy and National Health Policy. Social well-being and empowerment at the family, school, peers, and community level should be acknowledged in integrative and inclusive social approaches addressing multidimensional poverty, health, and health behaviours of Ghanaian young people

(Book of Etiquette and Ceremonial) is considered a Confucians classic difficult to read. Scholars have adopted three basic methods of interpretation: (1) to break the texts into paragraphs; (2) to illustrate the ceremonies; (3) to explain the etiquette rules. In addition, scholars of different historical periods have also researched unsystematically on the writing style of This article examines Qing-dynasty scholar Wu Tinghua’s 吳廷華 (1682 -1755) annotations to the writing techniques of Yili in his Yili zhang ju (Analysis of the Book of Etiquette and Rites), including textual variation, words’ sequence, hint, pre-narration, indicating the hidden, omission, intratextuality, use of specific function words, etc. Because the writing techniques of Yili are related to the moral meanings of the etiquettes and their rules, the differences among Wu Tinghua’s, Zheng Xuen’s 鄭玄 and Jia Gongyan’s 賈公彥 annotations project a diversity of the actual performances of the etiquettes
