Exploring the semantics and functionality of Ghanaianisms
Get PDFGhanaian users of English have developed a variety of English that includes, among other things, lexical items whose usage and meanings are impregnated with cultural values, concepts and meanings. In this thesis I call these items Ghanaianisms and argue that their significance is to allow an institutionalized second language to acquire new meanings in the new context, in order to function effectively and to express new identities. The new norms that have arisen in the Ghanaian context include both feature norms and behavioural norms, and both were investigated as part of the study. The methodology used is ethnographic in nature. Data collection methods included document analysis featuring media texts and creative works from Ghanaian writers, and interviews with members of four influential occupational groups that are closely involved with the use of English. Feature norms and behavioural norms were found to be interrelated in areas such as the use of adages, proverbs, transliteration and the employment of symbolism. The interview data showed a range of views pertaining to the existence and status of Ghanaianisms, with members simultaneously showing allegiance to both external (mainly British) norms and internal (Ghanaian) norms. The educationalists noted that this could lead to problems such as the inconsistent marking of student scripts. To help resolve this case of linguistic schizophrenia (Kachru 1983), this study proposes the selective codification of Ghanaianisms into dictionaries and thesauri. When English is codified to reflect the Ghanaian cultural context, it will be a way for Ghanaians to contribute to the global language, while localizing it to appropriately serve their linguistic and cultural needs
探析鮑照賦的藝術特徵 : 情與景、情與物的關係
Get PDF鮑照（約414年－466年）是南宋時期（420年－479年）傑出的文學家，他擅寫詩、賦與散文，其中以詩歌創作成就最為卓著。故此，歷代學者都集中研究他的樂府詩和七言詩，較少關注其詩歌以外的創作。關於鮑照賦的討論，學者往往聚焦於其著作《蕪城賦》，而對其他賦作或是有所忽略，或是各有偏重。從「情與景」、「情與物」的角度進行梳理和探究的論著依然缺失，這無疑削弱了對鮑照賦的整體論述。
有鑑於此，本論文將以鮑照賦作為主要的研究對象，結合相關的文藝理論，探討當中的「情與景」、「情與物」的關係，旨在探究其整體的藝術價值。另外，針對某些頗具爭議性的賦作也會進行深度剖析。本文由五大章節組成，在緒論部分將綜述鮑照賦的研究現況，並在此基礎上闡述本論文的研究意義。第二章簡述中國古代的文藝理論，說明選取王夫之的《薑齋詩話》和劉勰的《文心雕龍·詮賦》作為研究鮑照賦的原因。第三章以王夫之的《薑齋詩話》為依據，從「景中情」、「情中景」、「情景妙合無垠」來探析鮑照抒情賦中的「情與景」的關係。第四章以劉勰的《文心雕龍·詮賦》為依據，從「情以物興」、「物以情觀」、「物我交融」來闡述鮑照詠物賦中的「情與物」的關係。第五章針對鮑照賦的研究現況，抽取富有爭議的篇章來進行深入的分析，從而表明《觀漏賦》具有「題為詠物，實為抒情」的特色。結論部分則總結本論文的內容，重申是次的研究意義
從當代電影看亞洲跨性別人士的困局

Multimodality and humor in danmu
No full textThis final year practical project introduces the multimodality and humor of danmu on Chinese danmu video site. This is an educational video that illustrates the academic theories behind the humor of danmu. Danmu is a kind of video commentary applied to Chinese internet videos consisting of users’ messages scrolling from right to left posted on top of the video in real time. The target audience of this project is Chinese and Western young people, since danmu represents a symbol of youth in China.
The aim of this video is to reveal the academic concepts behind the popular young culture danmu, and let more youngsters become interested in the academic significance of danmu. This video project introduces the concepts of multimodality and humor first, and then uses rich examples to demonstrate how academic theories are applied in danmu. The Sounds of the Tang Poetry : Transcultural performance : From Zhiyin to Yunxue : The rise of Chinese rhyme studies
No full textThis podcast you are listening to is the soundtrack of the 6th episode of HOW TO READ CHINESE POETRY VIDEOS.
In the last few episodes, we have learned about the tonal patterns of regulated verse and some of their cosmological underpinnings. In the next two episodes Professor Jonathan Stalling will delve further into the cultural systems that both gave rise to and later sustained these regulated verse practices for over 1500 years. In the first of these two episodes he will explore the emergence of the 知音 “zhiyin,” a community drawn together by their devotion to create and refine what came to be called 韵学 “yunxue” or “the study of rhymes” leading to the creation of rhyme books and later rhyme tables that allowed poets from across distinct dialects and regional accents the ability to compose regulated according to shared standards. Stalling will take us deep into the phonological rules of Classical Chinese rhyme studies through a unique approach because he has reorganized 8000 monosyllabic English words into rhyme tables by following all of the essential phonological rules present in Classical Chinese “yunxue.” This episode will be followed next week by another that build upon our knowledge of the rhyme table tradition so that we can compose and properly recite regulated verse in modern Chinese and English.
