Pre-service teachers’ performance and the quality of training in Colleges of Education is still of concern to stakeholders. The persistent poor performance of pre-service teachers especially in Fine and Applied Arts have been traced to many factors including the use of classrooms and learning environment which lack the prerequisite conditions for the teaching of Fine and Applied Arts. This study was therefore carried out to ascertain the relationship between classroom design and pre-service teachers’ performance in fine and applied arts in Colleges of Education in Southwest, Nigeria. This study was a descriptive survey research design of the ex-post facto type. The population of this study comprised 300 level Fine and Applied Arts Pre-service teachers and Lecturers in all the Colleges of Education that offer Fine and Applied Arts in South-west, Nigeria. The sample was 250 pre-service teachers and 70 lecturers of Fine and Applied Arts. The research instrument used was the job performance scale. The instrument was subjected to face and content validation using two experienced Fine and Applied Arts Teachers. The researchers along with six research assistants administered the instrument. Data collected were analysed using Multiple Regression. The result showed that there was a significant composite effect of classroom design on pre-service teachers’ performance in Fine and Applied Arts. Based on the findings, it was therefore recommended that; a purpose-built studio complex made up of classrooms must be a criterion for accreditation and approval of Fine and Applied Arts Department in Colleges of education

An Application of the Agency Theory to Co-Operative Housing Delivery in Lagos State

    No full text
The purpose of this study is to determine the level of alignment between co-operative leaders and members in the key housing supply decision-making process. The study utilises the Agency Theory as the theoretical framework. The research design is quantitative, with a survey of 600 co-operative leaders and 300 co-operative members, identified through systematic random sampling and captive audience sampling strategies respectively. The survey instrument was a close-ended questionnaire that measured variables relating to housing decision making processes. The underlying hypothesis guiding this study was that there are no differences in the responses of co-operative leaders and co-operative members with respect to the level of member involvement in land acquisition decision-making. Analysis was carried out using independent sample t-tests. It was discovered that co-operative members reported lower levels of member involvement in the process of land acquisition. This implies some weakness in the internal governance of co-operative societies, and it is recommended that co-operative governance is strengthened by regulatory bodies, co-operative leaders improve their engagement with members and thirdly that academia support the sector by translating and communicating co-operative governance theories to action points

Improving the Financial Performance of Life Insurance Industry in Nigeria Through Effective Asset–Liability Management

    No full text
The financial performance of the life insurance sector has either remained stagnant or has declined over time as a result of poor management of their liabilities and assets. The purpose of this research is to improve the financial performance of the Nigerian life insurance industry via efficient asset–liability management. To attain the objectives of study, this study concentrated on ten life insurance companies that have been in operation from 2009 to 2020. The panel data regression model was used to test the study's hypotheses. According to the findings of this study, the poor financial performance of the life insurance industry can be attributed to poor asset and liability management. This study recommended that management of Insurance Firms hire professional accountants for appropriate asset and liability management; premium received (assets) by Life Insurance companies be invested into more productive investments which can assure maximum profit; assets that are less performing or outdated should be turned into cash and invested adequately and liabilities (particularly claims payable) should be prioritized in terms of management

The T-Power{Log-logistic} framework was used to develop a new distribution called Gamma-Power{Log-logistic} distribution. The distribution was published in Unilag Journal of Mathematics and Applications, Volume 1, Issue 1 (2021), Pages 35-59 [1]. The partial differentiation of the log-likelihood function with respect to k is not correct but has been corrected in this corri- gendum

Modeling and simulation of isothermal reactive liquid chromatography for two component elution-effects of core-shell particles

    No full text
In this work, semi-analytical solutions obtained by a combination of analytical and numerical procedure based on the numerical Hankel and Laplace transform inversions and solution of same model using high resolution finite volume numerical method are presented. These solutions are obtained for two-dimensional general rate models for isothermal liquid chromatographic reactors of cylindrical geometry packed with core-shell particles for an irreversible chemical reaction. This task is aimed at investigating the performance of the two-dimensional chromatography column under isothermal operating condition with the use of core-shell particles. The semi-analytical solutions are obtained considering the first-type and second-type boundary conditions. The use of core-shell particles is observed to produce less diffusive and sharper peaks but separation of chemical components is not significantly improved when compared with the results for porous particles

The study is on integrating multiple knowledge systems in technology and vocational education: a panacea for enriching and sustaining manpower development in Nigeria. A survey research design was adopted for the study. Four research questions were raised for the study. A total of 28 questionnaire items on the response mode of 4 points were generated to answer the research questions. These items were subjected to both face validation and consistency test. The population for the study included all the lecturers in the Department of Technology and Vocational Education, University of Lagos; School of Technical and Vocational Education, Federal College of Education, Technical, Akoka; Department of Technology and Vocational Education. Yaba College of Technology and School of Technology and Vocational Education Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijaniki. There are 12 lecturers at the University of Lagos, 30 lecturers at the Federal College of Education, 35 lecturers at Yaba College of Technology and 15 lecturers in Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijaniki. The total number of respondents is 92. There was no sampling as the population could be managed. It found out that integrated multiple knowledge system methods of teaching can enhance student understanding of the subject, apply what they have learnt in classroom in a real-world situation, focuses on basic skills, content, and higher-level thinking and provides connections among various curricular disciplines. Several students’ related factors affect the integrated method of teaching. These factors include the maturity of the student, health status, readiness, ability and willpower, active participation, attention level of the student, satisfaction and level of aspiration. It was proven that the integrated multiple-knowledge system method of teaching has great advantages over the traditional method especially when it has to do with enriching and sustaining manpower development. It was concluded that lecturers should constantly upgrade themselves to acquire more knowledge and experience in their discipline

It is therefore recommended that; micro-teaching should be a pre-requisite for teaching practice by pre-service teachers in biology teacher trainin

Does Risk Appetite influence Demand for Reinsurance? A survey of the Evidence

    No full text
Reinsurance appears to be a very useful tool for primary insurers to secure themselves risks of decline performance. Nevertheless, over-reliance on it can be detrimental to financial performance and shareholder’s value. This notwithstanding, risk appetite seems to be a major determinant of the demand for reinsurance. This study aimed at assessing the influence of risk appetite on the demand for reinsurance in the non-life insurance sector of Nigeria. The research is descriptive in nature and it relied on secondary data of eleven non-life insurance companies from 2008-2017 as contained in NIA Digest, the publication of the Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA). Relationship between the variables is tested with regression and correlation analyses. Results show that risk appetite significantly influences the demand for reinsurance in the non-life insurance sector. Although, solvency did not demonstrate any significant relationship with demand for reinsurance but capital adequacy, appears to be positive and significant in its relationship with demand for reinsurance. The researchers, therefore, recommend that alternative strategies that can help non-life insurers secure capital required to meet short-term financial obligations should be considered. Also, non-life insurers should always keep an eye on their capital if they have no capacity to raise it beyond the benchmark imposed by the regulator

Sensitivity Analysis of Mathematical Modelling of Tuberculosis Disease With Resistance to Drug Treatments

    No full text
Drug resistance to the line of treatment is also of concerns in the control of Tuberculosisdisease in the world [11], an individual with drug resistance will still retain the disease evenafter several treatment. In this study, we consider a mathematical model of a tuberculosisdisease with resistance to the first line of treatment, taking into consideration population ofchildren and adults. We considered six different compartment (S1S2EIRHR), an extension ofSEIR model by introducing two different susceptible classes (S1S2) and drug resistance(RH) tothe first line of treatment. The system was described by an ordinary differential equation, whichwas solved algebraically to obtained the equilibrium point (disease free and endemic equilibriumpoint). The next generation matrix was employed to evaluate the basic reproduction numberand column reduction matrix to get the local stability of the systems. It was observed thatthe age group had bigger effect on the control of TB. The drug resistance had a little effecton the total control of the disease. At the end, three effective measure were found, that wouldhelp reach the major goal of the World Health Organization(WHO)which includes: to reducethe exposed rate of the disease especially in the adults, increase the recovery rate and reducethe transmission rate of the adults
