    Get PDF
Small and Medium Scale-SMEs space is continuously undergoing extreme complications arising from multiplicities of factors such as changing government policies, inadequate capital, declining capacity, and managerial know-how to mention a few. Therefore, improve entrepreneurial orientation is a precondition to enhance the capability and skills of entrepreneurs.  This paper review entrepreneurial orientation as pathway to foster strategic agility of Small and Medium Scale-SMEs in Nigeria. To achieve the aforementioned objective, this paper review scholarly articles from multiple databases such as Web of Sciences, Science Direct, Scopus, Emerald, and Google Scholar to mention a few.  The notion of entrepreneurial orientation has become one of the most well-known concepts in entrepreneurship literature and has been recognized as a form of adaptive behaviour to cope with changing SMEs landscape. The paper noted that both entrepreneurial orientation and strategic agility signaled the basis of organisational resilience to cope with changing business dynamics and volatility. In particular, EO confers strong internal organisational configurations and practices to SMEs, to be more innovative and proactive as a basis of improving strategic agility. The study concluded that by developing the entrepreneurial competences, SMEs will be in a better position to develop capabilities to survive and flourish. Based on the findings, the paper recommends that to enhance strategic agility of SMEs, business managers must continuously improve their entrepreneur through strategic sensitivity, resource fluidity, and leadership unity so as to remain abreast and conversant with changing complications in the SMEs space

THE IMPACT OF GAMIFICATION STRATEGIES ON PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS’ MOTIVATION TO LEARN MATHEMATICS IN SOUTH WEST NIGERIA

    No full text
Nigeria grapples with challenges within its educational framework, with a prevailing focus on quantitative metrics often neglecting qualitative aspects. Mathematics education, in particular, stands out as a significant hurdle in achieving educational objectives. This study seeks to examine the influence of gamification strategies on primary school pupils' motivation to learn mathematics in Southwest Nigeria. It employed a quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test control group factorial design: the research encompasses eight primary schools across Lagos and Osun states. The Motivation to Learn Mathematics Scale (MLMS) was adapted from the Science Motivation Questionnaire (SMQ) to gauge motivation levels. Data collected were subjected to analysis employing descriptive statistics, ANCOVA. The findings reveal a positive impact of gamification treatment on pupils' motivation to learn mathematics. Moreover, the study shows that gender does not exert a significant influence on primary school pupils' motivation to learn mathematics. similarly, the area of classification does not significantly affect pupils' motivation. Consequently, it is recommended, among other measures, that the incorporation of gamification strategies into mathematics teaching for primary school pupils be prioritized

Valuers’ perception of the Relative Influence of Sustainability Features in Nigerian Property Valuation

    No full text
Purpose- This study explores the perceptions held by Estate Surveyors and Valuers (ESVs) in Lagos regarding the influence of sustainability features (SFs) in property valuation and also ascertains if the influence differs in residential accommodation and commercial office space valuation. Methodology- Multiple choice and Likert scale questionnaires were randomly administered to 198 valuers representing 50% of the ESVs in Lagos as contained in the current NIESV directory. To ascertain their perception and determine variations in influence across the two property types, ranking was done on a Likert scale of 1-5 and paired sample t-test was used respectively. The data obtained was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings- Access to transportation emerged as the highest-rated sustainability feature (SF) influencing residential property valuation with a mean rating of 4.14, followed closely by durable materials (4.02) and space efficiency (3.81). Commercial properties mirrored nearly the same perception, with access to transportation, use of durable materials, and space efficiency receiving mean ratings of 4.19, 4.07, and 3.9 respectively. Findings reveal a calculated emphasis on location, material quality and cost which contradicts Western prioritization of energy efficiency. Nine out of the 26 sustainability features emerged with p-values less than 0.05 establishing a variance on the influence of some sustainability features across the two property types. Notably, there is a perceived higher influence of these SFs in residential property valuation. Research limitations- The issue of reluctance among the target population to allocate sufficient time for survey participation is a major barrier, leading to a retrieval rate of 58%. Theoretical/Social/Practical implications – The findings bring to focus the considerations that can shape property valuations in Lagos. Ultimately, the incorporation of a sustainability premium into rental or capital valuation will provide valuable insights for developers, policymakers and other investors in sustainable buildings. The originality/value- This study has established a localized perspective of the varied influence of sustainability features in residential and commercial property valuation in Lagos, Nigeria

Public Infrastructure and Sustainable Urban Mass Housing in Nigeria

    No full text
This study discusses public infrastructure in urban mass housing in Nigeria, and how it can impact  Sustainable Development. The study was conducted in Owerri, Imo State, Southeast Nigeria. Four  purposively selected mass housing neighbourhoods for middle income residents within Owerri metropolis  were appraised for neighbourhood infrastructure namely; network and quality of access roads and  drainages, availability of public services, availability of communal activity areas, and safety and security  measures in place in the neighbourhoods. Case study method was used for the study. Data collection was  through pictorial documentation and on-site physical appraisal. The findings of the study show that estate  infrastructure where available, were inadequate, thereby detracting from the achievement of  environmentally and socially sustainable neighbourhoods for the residents. The study further revealed a  clear absence of an integrated housing infrastructure policy which addresses quality of housing  infrastructure and its implications for social sustainability. It is therefore recommended that housing estate  development in Nigeria must integrate from the beginning, basic facilities and services that will  complement the individual housing units, create a sense of community, and ensure proper management  and maintenance of the estates. These are considered critical to the attainment of Sustainable Cities and  Communities (SDG goal 11)

Governance, Sustainable Development Goals and the Lagos Homeownership Mortgage Scheme

    No full text
Housing adequacy is critical to basic human survival, but its deficit remains a major challenge in many cities in Africa. The current global development framework Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) refocused on the importance of adequate housing to urban sustainability. The SDGs advocate for effective governance framework to develop inclusive solutions to adequate housing. Within the contexts of SDGs 11 and 16, this study explores the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme (Lagos HOMS) initiative through the lens of governance. Designed to intervene in vital aspects of the local housing market, the Lagos HOMS initiative targets Lagos residents' first-time homebuyers. Relying on mixed methods data sources, this study benefits from a Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) funded research on the role of urban governance in transforming African cities, with Lagos as a case study. We analysed housing governance in Lagos focusing on the concepts of capacity, inclusiveness, accountability and contestation of the Lagos HOMS initiative within the context of sustainable development. Evidence suggests that the initiative ensured transparency and accountability but there was contestation around affordability. The study concludes that these observed policy inconsistencies led to the adoption of “rent-to-own” scheme considered to be 'affordable' and politically relevant but significantly eroded progress made by a hitherto transparent but generally criticised 'unaffordable' mortgage option. With these, we offer some policy recommendations towards achieving inclusive and sustainable housing outcomes in Lagos

ASSESSMENT OF SCIENCE PROCESS SKILLS OF BASIC SCIENCE TEACHERS’ UPPER BASIC SCHOOLS

    No full text
This study investigates the Science Process Skills (SPSs) possessed by Basic Science teachers in Anambra State's Upper Basic Schools, crucial for fostering critical thinking and problem-solving among students. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from 178 Basic Science teachers across 266 public secondary schools. The Science Process Skills Test (SPST), validated by experts and piloted for reliability, assessed skills such as observation, classification, measurement, inference, prediction, experimentation, and communication. The findings reveal that while teachers exhibit high proficiency in skills like classification (76.40%), predicting (81.10%), and interpreting data (76.03%), there are significant gaps in skills such as controlling variables (33.73%) and graphing (49.73%). This disparity suggests a need for targeted professional development to enhance teachers' proficiency in these critical areas. Addressing these gaps is essential for improving the overall quality of science education, thereby benefiting students' academic performance and interest in science-related careers. The study recommends continuous professional development and the establishment of a dedicated unit within the Ministry of Education to support and sustain the application of SPSs among science teachers

On the core of some classes of generalised Bol-Moufang loops

    No full text
This study centers on properties of the core of some classes of generalized Bol-Moufang loops wherein a construction of a generalized Bol loop is presented. Several properties of the core of generalized Bol loops are established. Some of these properties inform that the core of generalized Bol loops belongs to the variety of Left Symmetric Left Distributive (LSLD) groupoid and therefore, a rack. A necessary and sufficient condition for the core of half-Bol loops to be medial is given with proof. The core of the inverse property (IP) generalized Moufang loop with universal α-elasticity is examined

    No full text
This study explored the Autoregressive models incorporating Regime switching or Markovswitching non-linear predictive models. This stemmed from the complexities observed in economicphenomena the understanding of which will help in recommending better model fits. The study collected data on all share index returns (Jan, 1985 - December 2019) from theNigeria Stock Exchange, fit an appropriate MS-AR model and estimate its parameters. Theparameters of the model were obtained while their properties like the expected duration, autocorrelationmeasure and the goodness of fit were equally computed in testing the applicabilityof the model. The result shows that the MS (3)-AR (3) as a predictive model was appropriate, efficient and robust enough for forecasting the returns of the all-share index of the Nigerianstock exchange over the sampled period. The study is therefore relevant for modelling all shareindex returns by investors, policy makers, researchers and the general public
