Product of Quasi-Idempotents in Finite Semigroup of Partial Order-Preserving Transformations.

    No full text
    Let Xn be the finite set {1, 2, . . . , n}, and POn = On ∪ {α : dom(α) ⊂ Xn(∀x, y ∈ Xn), x ≤ y =⇒ xα ≤ yα} be the semigroup of all partial order-preserving transformations from Xn to itself, where On = {α ∈ Tn : (∀x, y ∈ Xn)x ≤ y =⇒ xα ≤ yα} is the full order preserving transformation on Xn and Tn the semigroup of full transformations from Xn to itself. A transformation α in POn is called quasi-idempotent if α ̸= α 2 = α 4 . In this article, we study quasi-idempotent elements in the semigroup of partial order-preserving transformations and show that semigroup POn is quasi-idempotent generated. Furthermore, an upper bound for quasi-idempotent rank of POn is obtained to be ⌈ 5n−4 2 ⌉. Where ⌈x⌉ denotes the least positive integer m such that x ≤ m ≤ x + 1

On quaternion valued rectangular S-metric space

A metric space can be seen as a distance space having a geometric structure, with only a few axioms. In this paper we introduce the concept of quaternion valued rectangular S metric spaces. The paper treats material concerning quaternion valued rectangular S metric spaces that is important for the study of fixed point theory in Clifford analysis. We introduce the basic ideas of quaternion valued rectangular S metric spaces and Cauchy sequences and discuss the completion of a quaternion valued rectangular S metric space. In this work, we will work on H, the skew field of quaternions. This means we can write each element q ∈ H in the form q = a + bi + cj + dk where a, b, c, d ∈ R and i, j, and k are the fundamental quaternion units. For these elements we have the multiplication rules I 2 = j 2 = k 2 = −1, ij = −ji = k, kj = −jk = −i and ki = −ik = j. The conjugate element is given by q = a−bi−cj −dk. The quaternion modulus has the form of |q|= √a 2 + b 2 + c 2 + d 2. Quaternions can be defined in several different equivalent ways. Quaternion is non commutative in multiplication. There is also more abstract possibilty of treating quaternions as simply quadruples of real numbers [a, b, c, d], with operation of addition and multiplication suitably defined. The components naturally group into the imaginary part (b, c, d), for which we take this part as a vector and the purely real part, a, which called a scalar. Sometimes, we write a quaternion as [a, V ] with V = (b, c, d). For more information about metric spaces, its generalization and quaternion analysi

This study examines the impact of the Ṣukūk market on Nigeria’s economic development by employing a descriptive and qualitative research methodology. The qualitative data, from publicly-available information, revealed that Ṣukūk has promoted infrastructural development. The study concludes that the Ṣukūk market in Nigeria has significantly enhanced infrastructure, which is a key indicator of economic development. It recommends that regulators increase awareness through sensitisation programmes and that the government expands Ṣukūk-financed infrastructural development, particularly in airports, seaports, energy, and railway systems

Making a Case for Integrative Medicine in Yoruba and Western Health Care Paradigms

    No full text
The world is evolving and conservative positions are giving way to practical and existential ones. The Western healthcare paradigm has conservatively been the formally acceptable healthcare paradigm in Nigeria although WHO knows and supports African Traditional Medicine (ATM). Current healthcare needs to show the limitation in both methods, when isolated, in such a way that either cannot give holistic care every time a patient requires it. This paper focuses on disease causation, diagnosis and treatment found in Yoruba Traditional Medicine (YTM) as a framework for integrative healthcare in Africa. There is a need for a complementary blend between the ATM and the Western model. The blend is necessitated because of the limitation experienced when one excludes the other. The Western paradigm focuses on the empirical analysis of disease causation and treatment whereas YTM focuses on both the empirical and spiritual dimension of disease causation and treatment as recognized by WHO. This study calls for an integrative healthcare aimed at providing a holistic approach to diagnosis and treatment of the mind, body, and spirit. To achieve the purpose of this paper, the Yoruba principle of ‘Àgbájọ ọwọ́ la fí  ń sọ àyà, àjèjé ọwọ́ kan kò gbé ẹrù dé orí’ (one hand is not good enough to lift a heavy load unto one’s head) will be used, with the objective of making a strong case for the integration of ATM and Western healthcare

The Hero as Villain in Armed Resistance: A Comparative Study of Ngugi wa Thiong’o’s "The Trial of Dedan Kimathi" and Ahmed Yerimah’s "Hard Ground"

    No full text
An armed situation like a liberation movement is a trying time for the people. It is a time when events are unsettled and lives are at risk. In such situations, there emerges central figures who become the rallying points for oppressed people searching for change. Such a central figure is seen as hero by one side and as villain on the other. Such are the situations graphically dramatized in Ngugi’s “The Trial of Dedan Kimathi” and Yerima’s “Hard Ground”. Against this background, this paper examines the character of the heroes of the two plays against the backdrop of the Mau Mau and the Niger Delta insurgencies in Kenya and in Nigeria, respectively. It seeks to investigate the heroes’ actions and motives in carrying out their revolts. In what dramatic tropes have the playwrights represented them in the plays? In what ways do they achieve heroic stature? Working within the Marxist literary theory, we apply such concepts as oppression, ideological underpinning and exploitation to the actions and events of the plays. A close reading of the texts and a rigorous critical interpretation of the character of the heroes reveal that “one man’s freedom fighter is, indeed another’s terrorist.” The paper concludes that, rather than uncritically accepting ‘establishment’ or ‘official’ categorisation of leaders of insurgency/ armed struggles as devilish, brutal and bloody ogres, a nuanced understanding of their social and political conditions that necessitated their actions must be considered. Thus, Dedan and Baba (protagonists in these plays) are innately gentle, committed and caring leaders that are driven by the quest to liberate their people

DEVELOPING PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS IN MATHEMATICS AT PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND TERTIARY LEVELS

    No full text
Problem solving skills are learned essential skills requiring instruction and adequate practice. Mathematics teachers at any educational level (primary, secondary and tertiary) can develop and enhance these skills by choosing skills that will keep students engaged in the problem-solving process, structuring and discussing the stages of problem-solving process, and effective teaching practices. Creating a foundation, questioning techniques, modelling of problem-solving skills, guiding students’ problem-solving skills and constant practicing of problem-solving tasks are some effective teaching practices and strategies that teachers can engage in that will make good problem solvers at any educational level in mathematics. Developing problem solving skills in students thus makes them active in and out of class, improves their learning in mathematics, and makes them become confident and competent problem solvers in mathematics and in the real world

The present world requires people with vast skills and abilities who can collect, organize, synthesise, analyse information, and apply the knowledge in solving everyday problem in the society. In essence, students are to be trained and equipped with the appropriate math skills that will enhance mathematical concepts and processes understanding for adaptation to the endless changing technologies, social, economic, and global conditions. This article considered the development of secondary school conceptual understanding via mathematical processes. Seven mathematical processes that will develop the required mathematical skills and facilitate deeper understanding of math are considered. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers should be encouraged to emphasise these processes during math instruction. &nbsp

EFFECT OF CALENDAR ADHERENCE ON FOOTBALL CLUB PERFORMANCE AT NATION AND CONTINENTAL COMPETITIONS

    No full text
Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) followership is fast declining which is worrisome to football enthusiasts. It is on record that NPFL organizers have unethically failed to comply with the proposed football timetable/calendar for decades, which has been said to distort the progress and administration of football in Nigeria. It is of note that NPFL clubs have failed to win continental competitions for several years running. Based on this premise, this study assessed the importance of calendar adherence by Nigerian football clubs for the improvement of performance at national and continental competitions. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design with Four hundred and twenty (n=420) samples, selected from football stakeholders in the Nigeria Premier Football League, using a multi-stage sampling procedure.  Out of the (n=420) sample selected, (n=354) questionnaires were returned valid. Two research hypotheses were tested in this study. A self-structured instrument was used for data collection which was in two parts of A and B. The A part collected demographic information of the participants, while the B part was the questionnaire used to collect data for testing the hypotheses titled Calendar Adherence Questionnaire (CAQ, r=0.83). Data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics, involving simple frequency count (f), percentages (%), means (x̅), and standard deviation (SD) scores which were used to describe the demographic characteristics of the respondents while Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA) were used to test the hypotheses at the 0.05 significance. The result shows a non-significant outcome (F = 1.369, p > 0.05), (F = .020, p > 0.05).  The result implies that adherence to football season calendar does significance contribute to the club performance at both national and continental competitions respectively. The results of this study revealed that there is relationship between calendar adherence and football club performance at national and continental competitions despite the low-level significance. The study recommended that there is an urgent need for the Interim Management Committee to develop a calendar/timetable for NPFL that will be at variance with CAF/FIFA standards to improve NPFL club’s performance at national and continental competitions

    No full text
This study was, therefore, aimed at investigating the impact of three key attributes of human-technology interactivities (technology affinity, interaction and accessibility) on ODL students’ attitude to learning and learning performance. Cross-sectional-mixed-methods survey design was used for the study. Eight hundred and forty students drawn from six ODL Centres located in southwestern Nigeria participated. Four researcher-designed questionnaires and a 15-item Technology-mediated Scientific Cognitive Abilities Test (T-SCAT) were used to collect data. A sample (n = 48) of students, randomly selected from the representative sample, was also interviewed. Content analysis was used to analyse the study’s qualitative data. Quantitative data were analysed using bivariate correlation analysis, descriptive statistics, and regression analysis. Results indicated statistically significant positive relationships between technology affinity and attitude to learning (r (534) = 0.56, p<0.01), technology affinity and learning performance (r (534) = 0.17, p<0.01), interaction and attitude to learning (r (534) = 0.61, p = 0.000), interaction and learning performance (r (534) = 0.102, p = 0.018), accessibility and attitude to learning (r (534) = 0.33, p = 0.000) and accessibility and learning performance (r (534) = 0.27, p = 0.000). Accessibility was not a significant predictor of attitude to learning but was found to be a significant predictor of learning performance (β = 0.25, t = 5.20, ρ < 0.001). The study recommended, amongst others, that higher educational institutions should adopt research-based approaches to align students’ technology attributes with learning and the semiotic resources of technology
