We propose to reduce the credit hours required for the BFA in performance-musical theatre 
undergraduate degree. We find the current number to be unsustainable for our student body. To 
achieve our goal of reducing hours, we are proposing that we remove MUS 2240 History of 
Rock II from our required courses. This reduces the credit hour requirement by 3 credits. The 
overall degree requirements changed from 124 credits to 121 credits.

Change #2: Add THAR 3520 – Writing for Production (3 credit hours, repeatable up to 12 hours) to 
the BFA Playwriting Major requirements.  
Rationale: Playwriting majors need to be writing short plays for an audience multiple times during 
the semester.  
 
Change #3: Remove additional 47** requirement (3 credit hours) from the Playwriting requirements.  
Rationale: The program is adding playwriting requirements and needs room in the curriculum. 
Students already take two upper level theater history classes.  
 
Change #4: Remove one ENG 2*** requirement (3 credit hours) from the Playwriting requirements.  
Rationale: The program is adding playwriting requirements and needs room in the curriculum. They

on a student’s previous degrees, licensures, coursework, and professional internship hours. 
Currently, the coursework requirements range from 33 credits for a person with a previous 
special education license to 43 credits for a person with an early childhood, middle childhood, 
and adolescent to young adult teacher license who has completed the undergraduate state reading 
requirements to 70 credits for a person seeking their first (initial) license. As a result, it is very 
difficult to know what student is in what track. As the Special Education program faculty 
transition from Programs of Study to graduate DARS, we are requesting new program codes so 
that we can differentiate between each of the three tracks.  
 
We are requesting a similar numbering pattern for ME6220 (Early Childhood Intervention 
Specialist) as we are for the other two Special Education areas (ME6236 (Mild-Moderate), 
ME6237(Moderate-Intensive)). The last number will help us signify the student’s track. 
ME6220 would change to: 
 ME6601 (for 1st license) 
 ME6602 (for 2nd license) 
 ME6603 (for no license) 
For the purposes of OCEAN, we are utilizing ME6602 as the primary code because that reflects 
the majority of our applicants. Upon admission, if students need either ME6601 or ME6603, an 
Update of Graduate Program form will be completed. We have consulted with Graduate College 
and this approach simplifies the application process for students and Graduate College.

specific courses we have recently offered to courses we plan to offer in the next two years rather 
than adding to the Catalog the full list of possible courses we may offer over multiple years.

This proposal is to add a new track to the Exercise Physiology programs. This is to meet the 
requirement of one of the upcoming accreditations that the Exercise Physiology program must 
seek through the Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education (CASCE) 
(https://www.nsca.com/casce/). We are seeking this accreditation because students will need to 
graduate from an accredited program in order to sit for the National Strength and Conditioning 
Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam. This accreditation requires us 
to have a track or major with “…a strength and conditioning title”. It also requires 300 hours or 
more of field experience meeting specific guidelines. Due to these requirements, we determined 
that adding a new track would be the best route since there will still be >50% overlap with the 
other Exercise Physiology track in the curricular requirements.  
 
The Exercise Physiology Major, BS8122 requires 97 credit hours. The Exercise Physiology Pre-
Physical Therapy major track (BS8171) requires 99 credit hours. The Exercise Physiology Pre-
Athletic Training major track (BS8178) requires 100 credit hours. This proposed track (Strength 
and Conditioning-Exercise Physiology) will require 104 credit hours.

This proposal is to take our existing concentration option in Nonprofit Leadership and 
Management and offer it as a certificate. The concentration currently consists of three courses 
and nine credit hours: MPA 5890 (Non-Profit Leadership and Governance), MPA 5680 
(Nonprofit Financial Management and Resource Development), and MPA 5660 (Strategic 
Communication and Outreach for Non-Profit Management). There would be three main 
audiences for this certificate: non-degree seeking working professionals, graduate students 
outside the Voinovich School, and graduate students enrolled in our Master of Public 
Administration program who select this as their concentration option. We already offer these 
courses and they have capacity to enroll additional students, so no additional resources would be 
required for implementation.

There is an undeniable need for skilled advocacy in support of veterans.  This certificate is 
designed for students who are either working in or preparing for careers that impact the lives of 
veterans. It promotes an interdisciplinary approach by combining courses from Sociology (SOC) 
and Interdisciplinary Health Studies (IHS) to equip students with the tools to support veterans 
effectively.  Adding this certificate to an undergraduate degree enhances students’ understanding 
of the unique needs of veterans and prepares them to support these individuals across various 
disciplines and professions. 
 
The certificate is a 12-credit-hour program designed to give students both breadth and depth in 
their studies.  It includes two required core courses—one from Sociology and one from 
Interdisciplinary Health Studies—totaling six credit hours.  These courses provide social, 
historical, and cultural foundations for effectively engaging with veteran communities and 
understanding veterans’ legal, healthcare, and other social challenges.  Students can then choose 
from a selection of electives across both departments, allowing them to focus on their advocacy 
interests for the remaining six credit hours.

Whereas Ohio University embraces respect across differences as a core value, recognizing “our 
responsibility to practice empathy, to appreciate diverse perspectives and cultures, and to 
develop the capacity to solve problems that transcend borders”1, and  
Whereas this core value requires “celebrating all members of our university community and 
striving to uplift diverse identities, cultures, experiences and perspectives so that all feel welcome 
and included”2, and  
Whereas we promise our students that “we are committed to promoting a campus environment 
that fosters and celebrates access, inclusion, and belonging for all students”, because “being a 
Bobcat means being in a culture that celebrates difference and diversity. It means being inspired 
to learn new things, to listen to others and learn from their experiences, to cultivate friendships 
that are meaningful, and to explore who you are”3, and  
Whereas we promise our employees that “diversity in all of its forms serves to enrich the distinct 
educational experience of OHIO students, faculty, and staff”, and that we strive to “create an 
environment where students of diverse backgrounds—and indeed, students from all over the 
world—study, live, learn, and socialize together”4, and  
Whereas the closure of the Division of Diversity and Inclusion in no way diminishes our 
responsibility to uphold these commitments,  
Therefore be it resolved that we, the Faculty Senate of Ohio University speaking with the voice 
of the faculty of Ohio University, affirm that we will continue to honor these values and promises 
on behalf of our students and our community.
