An Evaluation of the Privacy Policies of Library Vendors
Get PDFThis project aims to evaluate the degree to which various library vendors are taking the privacy of library users into account. In 2018, the Library Freedom Project put together a Vendor Privacy Scorecard analyzing the privacy policies of twelve major vendors, but no follow-up study seems to have been conducted by the Project since then. I intend to conduct my own updated privacy policy audit of these and other significant library vendors (particularly those used by NC LIVE) to gain a better understanding of how well these vendors are accounting for and protecting the privacy of individual library users today. This largely involves an analysis (based on the criteria used by the Library Freedom Project and the guidelines found in the ALA Library Privacy Checklist for Vendors) of vendors’ posted privacy policies. Sorting by LC Call Number in Excel
Get PDFSorting by Library of Congress (LC) call number in Excel is problematic because Excel does not treat LC call numbers as numbers. In practice, this means that Excel sorts LC call numbers based on each successive digit in the call number rather than the overall value of each call number. (for example, a call number beginning with PS507 would be sorted after one beginning with PS4998 in a default Excel sort). In this presentation, I demonstrate one method for accurately sorting by LC call number in Excel
Why Doesn\u27t She Just Leave? Improving Identification and Response to Victims of Intimate Partner Violence in the Emergency Room
Get PDFThe purpose of this project was to improve identification and response to victims of intimate partner violence (IPV) presenting to the emergency department. Project participants completed a pre-education questionnaire prior to the project leader providing intimate partner violence educational materials and a presentation entitled Recognizing and Responding to Victims of Intimate Partner Violence in the Emergency Room. The project participants then completed a mirrored post-education questionnaire. Evaluation of the project included a comparison of the participant\u27s responses to the mirrored questionnaires. Project participants reported an increase in the:
• recognition of the prevalence of intimate partner violence among their patients,
• self-reported confidence in the ability to identify patients at high risk for intimate partner violence,
• self-reported confidence in the ability to identify patients currently experiencing intimate partner violence,
• self-reported confidence using EMR screening tools for intimate partner violence,
• self-reported confidence in communicating empathetically and effectively with patients experiencing intimate partner violence,
• self-reported confidence in knowing what to do if a patient discloses intimate partner violence,
• self-reported confidence in the ability to assess patients presenting with intimate partner violence complaints,
• awareness of both community and hospital resources for patients experiencing intimate partner violence, and
• awareness of barriers for patients experiencing intimate partner violence to access safety

Cleveland County Study Reports Gardner-Webb’s Total Economic Impact: $155.3 Million
Get PDFA new study by Tourism Economics, which was commissioned by Visit Cleveland County, N.C., has documented and determined the economic impacts of four organizations, including Gardner-Webb University. Gardner-Webb Leads Big South Conference with 339 Students on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll
Get PDFGardner-Webb placed 339 student-athletes to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll, announced on Monday, July 31.
To be named to the Presidential Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better for the recently completed academic year. GWU had the fourthhighest percentage of eligible student-athletes named to the Honor Roll, with 76.87 percent (339- of-441) student-athletes earning the accolades.
