Formative Assessment Practices: A Mixed Methods Study of New Career and Technical Education Teacher Perceptions of Their Levels of Knowledge and Use
The purpose of this mixed methods study was to examine the implementation of training and practices of formative assessment for new North Carolina Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers. The study investigated new CTE teacher levels of knowledge, the strategies they use, and the challenges they face. This study aimed to improve the quality of education for North Carolina CTE students and support the training of new CTE teachers by providing insights into the implementation and effectiveness of formative assessment practices. According to research, if new teachers feel empowered and encouraged, they are more inclined to comprehend the benefits of formative assessment practices and be more motivated to use them in their classrooms (Ryan & Deci, 2017). The results indicated that participants had a strong to moderate level of knowledge of the formative assessment practices provided with various levels of use. Through open-ended responses, participants identified numerous supports and barriers to implementation in their classrooms. Overall, the goal was to enhance the education quality provided to North Carolina CTE students by identifying potential barriers that impede effective implementation, resulting in CTE teachers and students not benefiting from the full range of learning opportunities that formative assessment can provide
Addressing Nursing School Retention: The Necessity of Orientation in Nursing Education
Nursing schools have been challenged to impact attrition and retention by creating an environment that increases student success. This DNP project was created to impact the current nursing shortage by increasing the number of nursing students who were retained after the first semester of nursing school. The DNP Project Leader designed a structured orientation program consisting of a 2-day in-person orientation and an online repository of resources. The DNP project sought to increase retention and provide pre-licensure students with gained skills to progress in the nursing program after the first semester in nursing school. The in-person orientation program provided participants with a structured clinical orientation, lab orientation, and student success resources. An online repository of resources was created to provide added support throughout the first semester. Based on statistical tracking, students who successfully progressed after the first semester, on average, accessed more material from the online repository. Students participated in a pretest/posttest to evaluate their perception of overall confidence in accessing school of nursing resources, managing time, utilizing test-taking strategies, and current study habits. After the DNP project, descriptive analysis revealed an increase in students’ perceptions of gained skills needed to be successful in the nursing program; however, the DNP project did not show an increase in retention rate
The Power of Portrayal: How the U.S. Media Portrayed the Doolittle Raid to the American Public

The ways in which these media outlets portrayed the American bombing of Japan would directly impact the perception of American citizens regarding the event. The bombing, eventually termed the Doolittle Raid after the general who led the mission, James Doolittle, immediately became a source of American propaganda for the U.S. media
