Anesthetic Protocol For Patients With Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia Undergoing Enteroscopy For Angiodysplastic Lesions: A Case Report
No full textHereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT), also known as Osler-Weber-Rendu syndrome, is a rare genetic disorder that poses significant perioperative challenges due to the risk of bleeding. We report the case of a 47-year-old male with HHT undergoing double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) for gastrointestinal angiodysplastic lesions. Preoperative preparation included detailed screening for anemia, coagulation status, and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). Anesthetic considerations included airway management strategies to prevent and detect telangiectasia rupture, maintenance of hemodynamic stability, and post-procedural bleeding management. Intraoperative measures included careful intubation, hemodynamic monitoring, and mitigation of embolic risks. The procedure was completed successfully, managing over 100 lesions without incident. This case highlights the importance of personalized perioperative protocols, intraoperative vigilance, and post-operative care which are crucial for the successful management of patients with HHT. We present our HHT-specific anesthetic protocol from a hematology center to address the unique challenges of HHT in endoscopic clinics, contributing to safer outcomes for patients with this rare genetic disorder
Deep Dissection Of The Gluteal Region With Multiple Muscle And Nerve Variations And A Brief Literature Review
No full textThe anatomy of the gluteal region is prone to numerous variations that can significantly impact the biomechanics of the hip joint and influence clinical presentation and therapeutic solutions. This case report documents a routine dissection of the right gluteal region performed on a 73-year-old male cadaver, which revealed six muscle variations and two nerve variations. The left gluteal region was unremarkable. The cadaveric-based work was supplemented by a brief literature review to contextualize these findings within the broader anatomical landscape. T he muscle variations were: gluteus medius with two distinct parts, anterior and posterior, each part with a distinct insertion on the greater trochanter; piriformis muscle with two distinct bellies, superior and inferior, separated by the common fibular division of sciatic nerve, with each muscle belly having a distinct tendon and insertion; absence of superior gemellus; an enlarged obturator internus tendon; and quadratus femoris muscle with a serrated and broadened appearance. Additionally, the posterior cutaneous nerve of the thigh had two trunks that originated from the common fibular and tibial divisions of sciatic nerve, respectively. While anatomical variations in the deep gluteal region are well documented, the presented case is unique due to the abundance of muscle and nerve variations, all co-existing together. T his case report adds to the body of literature on the significance of anatomical variations in the deep gluteal region and their clinical implications
Lifestyle Factors and their Effect on Preventable Chronic Illness and Disease: A Review
No full textFor the past few decades, a greater emphasis has been placed on studying prevention science. Considering how your daily habits and lifestyle factors influence your overall health and well-being has become a majority priority both individually and at a governmental and societal level. The major reason behind this emphasis is the impact these lifestyle factors have on your risk of developing preventable and non-communicable diseases and illnesses. However, the liaison between researchers, physicians, government officials and the public are not very effective. Research focuses on very niche and often complex topics that require translation and visualization to be accessible and understandable for the general population. The focus of this literature review is to identify and summarize trends across interdisciplinary research focusing on 4 major lifestyle factors and their effect on the risk of 4 major diseases. It was identified that multiple lifestyle factors and habits must be incorporated to reap the benefits of disease prevention. In addition, the development or diagnosis of other diseases or conditions was often associated more greatly with the development of these chronic illnesses. Moving forward, this stresses the importance of health literacy and education surrounding a healthy lifestyle and the important role physicians play in preventative policy and educating patients

Indian Baghdadi Jews in Literature: A Murder, a Prostitute, and a Drug Dealer
No full textThe article examines the depiction of female Baghdadi Jewish characters in three works: Gay Courter’s English novel Flowers in the Blood (2002), Saadat Hasan Manto’s Urdu short story Mozelle (1951), and Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s Bengali story Makorshar Rosh (1933). It explores a murder case from Calcutta Jewry through the eyes of Courter’s protagonist Dinah Sassoon, a prevalent vice among the poorer Baghdadis through the character of a Jewish prostitute, Mozelle, and the role of Baghdadis in drug-trafficking through the character of Rebecca Light. The 21st century novel offers a nuanced understanding of characters, while the earlier short stories reflect their authors’ stereotypical understanding of their contemporary society
