Socio-Economic Challengesfrom and for Future Internet, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2010, nr 2
There are several papers available addressing the challenges for Future Internet that result from socio-economic aspects; such challenges must be obviously taken into account when constructing and developing Future Internet. This paper, however, takes an opposite view that from the dynamics of the development of Internet itself (or Future Internet) result challenges for the socio-economic development and even for the paradigm of understanding economy; such challenges must be taken into account first, then – in a feedback loop – lead to the modification of socio-economic challenges for Future Internet. This change of perspective is necessary because the analysis of socio-economic challenges for Future Internet is typically based on a classical paradigm of equilibrium economics. While useful, this paradigm is limited and has been shown incomplete, e.g., by the recent world-wide financial and economic crisis. This paper shows that the informational revolution – including but not limited to the development of Internet – has already changed the behavior of main socio-economic agents as well as of economic markets and our understanding of them; thus, new perspectives are needed. The paper also shows that a useful perspective is that not of expected benefits from Future Internet – there are many such benefits and they will surely motivate enough economic development of Future Internet – but of socio-economic threats resulting from the dynamic development of the Internet. There are several such threats and conflicts that can be foreseen: the conflict between corporatization and governance; the conflict between direct and indirect limits to freedom; the trend towards elitarism inherent in Internet development dynamics versus democracy; the threat of network and computer domination over people, etc. Some of such threats and conflicts are discussed in the paper
Frequency Offset Compensation for OFDM Systems Using a Combined Autocorrelation and Wiener Filtering Scheme, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2010, nr 1
One of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system disadvantages is its sensitivity to frequency offset and phase noise, which lead to losing the orthogonality between the subcarriers and thereby degrade the system performance. In this paper a joint scheme for frequency offset and pilot-based channel estimation is introduced in which the frequency offset is first estimated using an autocorrelation method, and then is fined further by applying an iterative phase correction by means of pilot-based Wiener filtering method. In order to verify the capability of the estimation algorithm, the scheme has been implemented and tested using a real measurement system in a multipath indoor environment. The results show the algorithm capability of compensating for the frequency offset with different transmission and channel conditions
Charging Phenomena at the Interface Between High-k Dielectrics and SiOx Interlayers, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2010, nr 1
The transition regions of GdSiO/SiOx and HfO2/SiOx interfaces have been studied with the high-k layers deposited on silicon substrates. The existence of transition regions was verified by medium energy ion scattering (MEIS) data and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). From measurements of thermally stimulated current (TSC), electron states were found in the transition region of the HfO2/SiOx structures, exhibiting instability attributed to the flexible structural molecular network expected to surround the trap volumes. The investigations were focused especially on whether the trap states belong to an agglomeration consisting of a single charge polarity or of a dipole constellation. We found that flat-band voltage shifts of MOS structures, that reach constant values for increasing oxide thickness, cannot be taken as unique evidence for the existence of dipole layers

Performance Analysis of Hybrid Phase Shift Keying over Generalized Nakagami Fading Channels, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2010, nr 3
In addition to the benefits of hybrid phase shift keying (HPSK) modulation in reducing the peak to average power ratio of the transmitted signal to reduce the zero crossings and the 0◦-degree phase transmissions, HPSK enhances the bit error rate (BER) measure of the signal performance. The constellation of the HPSK is analyzed, and an expression for the conditional probability of HPSK modulation over additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) is derived. This BER measure of HPSK is shown to outperform quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) modulation. HPSK performance through Nakagami – m fading channel is also considered
Hidden Signature for DTW Signature Verification in Authorizing Payment Transactions, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2010, nr 4
Traditional use of dynamic time warping for signature verification consists of forming some dissimilarity measure between the signature in question and a set of “template signatures”. In this paper, we propose to replace this set with the hidden signature and use it to calculate the normalized errors of signature under verification. The approach was tested on the MCYT database, using both genuine signatures and skilled forgeries. Moreover, we present the real-world application of the proposed algorithm, namely the complete biometric system for authorizing payment transactions. The authorization is performed directly at a point of sale by the automatic signature verification system based on the hidden signature

In this paper, we deal with a coordination game in a network where a player can choose both an action of the game and partners for playing the game. In particular, a player interacts with players connecting through a path consisting of multiple links as well as with players directly connecting by a single link. We represent decay or friction of payoffs with distance as communication costs, and examine the effect of the communication cost on behavior of players in the game and network formation. We investigate properties of equilibrium networks by classifying the link cost and the communication cost, and show diversity of the equilibrium networks
