Agent-based Optimization of Advisory Strategy Parameters, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2013, nr 2
In this paper, an application of Evolutionary Multiagent Systems (EMAS) and its memetic version to the optimization of advisory strategy (in this case, Sudoku advisory strategy) is considered. The problem is tackled using an EMAS, which has already proven as a versatile optimization technique. Results obtained using EMAS and Parallel Evolutionary Algorithm (PEA) are compared. After giving an insight to the possibilities of decision support in Sudoku solving, an exemplary strategy is defined. Then EMAS and its memetic versions are discussed, and experimental results concerning comparison of EMAS and PEA presented
On future information system for management of radio frequency spectrum resource. Telekomunikacja i Techniki Informacyjne, 2013, nr 3
This article attempts to outline an information system that will provide data for decision-making by governments, their contractors, international consortia, private companies, and other entities interested in radiocommunications. The proposed system will harmonize national and international radio frequency spectrum management, and will integrate the existing computer resources within one computer network. It will contain the complete data on current use of radio frequencies around the world and offer specialized computer tools to facilitate the technical coordination analyses required when a new radio station is proposed. The system will help to manage the radio frequency spectrum resources and to satisfy the increasing frequency demand for new radio services and systems. It will affect strongly the spectrum management, independently of any other reform such as simplification of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radio Regulations. The new system will be the expected " next step" after the decisions of the recent Additional Plenipotentiary Conference (APP-92). After presenting the background, we discuss current problems in radio frequency spectrum management such as the role of new partners, fragmentation and inefficiency. Section 3 outlines the concept of the system. Comments on implementation are given in section 4 and concluding remarks in section 5
System ochrony sieci kablowych SPOT. Telekomunikacje i Techniki Informacyjne, 2013, nr 1-2
W artykule przedstawiono metody monitoringu technicznego telekomunikacyjnych sieci kablowych i ich elementów oraz system monitoringu sieci kablowych SPOT opracowany w ramach projektu rozwojowego OR00012612. System ten służy do scentralizowanego wykrywania uszkodzeń i nieuprawnionych ingerencji w sieciach kablowych miedzianych i światłowodowych. Rola monitoringu sieci kablowych wzrasta wobec obserwowanego w ostatnich latach znacznego wzrostu liczby uszkodzeń związanych z robotami budowlanymi i drogowymi oraz kradzieżami kabli
ILP Modeling of Many-to-Many Replicated Multimedia Communication, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2013, nr 3
On-line communication services were evolving from a simple text-based chats towards sophisticated videopresence appliances. The bandwidth consumption of those services is constantly growing due to the technology development and high user and business needs. That fact leads us to implement optimization mechanisms into the multimedia communication scenarios. In this paper, the authors concentrate on many-to-many (m2m) communication, that is mainly driven by the growing popularity of on-line conferences and telepresence applications. An overlay model where m2m flows are optimally established on top of a given set of network routes is formulated and a joint model where the network routes and the m2m flows are jointly optimized. In the models, the traffic traverses through replica servers, that are responsible for stream aggregation and compression. Models for both predefined replica locations and optimized server settlement are presented. Each model is being followed by a comprehensive description and is based on real teleconference systems
The Goals and Benefits of Network Modelling in a Commercial Environment, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2013, nr 1
Modelling is a technique that can be used in the development and sizing of networks. It involves building a mathematical representation of a physical system and is often computer based, allowing system behaviour to be investigated based on the variation of key parameters. This paper will describe some applicable tools for network modelling and consider a range of applications. Whilst modelling and simulation tools are used extensively to design and size ICT solutions, each tool tends to be targeted at a specific range of applications and a specific user community. It is shown that different tools expect different levels of expertise from their user communities. The benefits of using such tools are described, as are some of their limitations. Modelling and simulation provide a cheaper and faster approach to trying new ideas than building prototypes or test networks. They provide a valuable guide to designing networks and can predict operational outcomes
IPv6 Preparation and Deployment in Datacenter Infrastructure – A Practical Approach, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2013, nr 1
This article describes the experiences with the initiative to introduce IPv6 into Capgemini’s datacenter environment, and to be more specific, the part of the project known as Phase 1: the preparation before actually doing so. Phase 1 comprises of training, testing and research of the IPv6 protocol and its features with the purpose to better understand the consequences of the introduction of IPv6 in a datacenter environment. It was a specific choice to not deploy IPv6 in a production environment, and to build a dedicated test environment first (Proof of Concept). This test environment would accommodate most basic features of IPv6 to safely prepare us for the actual deployment. The technical results of the IPv6 experience were documented in a structured way, useable for future reference. Test results were also used as input to develop Capgemini best practices for IPv6 deployment
Innovative Method of the Evaluation of Multicriterial Multicast Routing Algorithms, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2013, nr 1
Theoretical considerations of the multicast Quality of Service (QoS) routing have been a rapidly developing and dynamic research area for years. Several algorithms derived from different approaches have been proposed, while the pool of valid solutions to the problem is steadily growing. When new solutions are compared with their predecessors, as much information as possible about their characteristics and differences is needed. Both the graph theory and the optimization theory provide robust and objective means of comparing not only algorithms, but also the results they produce. However, any possible extension to the comparison methods is vital and can bring interesting new information that would eventually lead to innovative conclusions. This article presents a method, derived from practice and experience, that simulates the drainage of resources accumulated by consecutive communication allocations. The nature of this comparison is an extension to the classical measurement of the success ratio and this creates a context of the continuous measure of a success rather than a simple binary value. In this article such a method with regard to algorithms optimizing multicast problems for more than two criteria is used for the first time and leads to an interesting conclusion about the influence of the number of the criteria on the result
Aspekty normalizacyjne w dziedzinie ochrony odgromowej. Telekomunikacja i Techniki Informacyjne, 2013, nr 1-2
Artykuł podsumowuje stan normalizacji dotyczącej ochrony odgromowej i przedstawia związane z nią wnioski z obrad
