New Threats and Innovative Protection Methods in Wireless Transmission Systems, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2014, nr 3
Many improvements in the field of wireless communication can be observed nowadays. Some developments are gradual, others are revolutionary. It is obvious that each innovation in the area may lead to new security threats and vulnerabilities. Such technologies and transmission methods as: Near Field Communication (NFC), Visible Light Communication (VLC), handover, mesh networks, 5G cellular network, mobile IPv6, beamforming, cooperative beamforming, Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA), transmission in Extra High Frequency (EHF) band are very important from the security point of view. In order to preserve high level of security one needs to identify, analyse and classify distinctive sets of threats and vulnerabilities as well as some emerging data protection opportunities related to innovative wireless transmission methods and technologies. This identification, analysis and classification is a main purpose of the paper. It will focus on cryptography in wireless systems, security vs. energy tradeoffs, physical layer security. For example, common problems related to cryptography may be solved with a use of physical layer security. Data confidentiality may be fulfilled with a use of beamforming and jamming, authentication may be performed with a use of out-of-band authentication model
Lessons Learned from WiMAX Deployment at INEA, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2014, nr 3
me broadband access is continuously demanding more bandwidth fueled by video streaming, entertainment and gaming applications. In 2010, a company INEA decided to roll-out new WiMAX-based services aimed to meet the needs of home users across theWielkopolska region of western Poland. It was decided to follow the 802.16e standard and the Time Division Duplexing (TDD) mode that offer the ability to adjust the downlink/uplink ratio and thus are well suited for data transmission. After an extensive testing period of equipment from various vendors, engineers at INEA have chosen the Motorola (currently Cambium Networks) PMP320 solution because it is compact and its components are space- and energy-effcient. The company choice was also influenced by its simple operation, management and installation, which ensured low costs of ownership. So far, this deployment has provided fast and affordable connectivity for Internet and telephony services to around 5,500 households across the 30,000 sq. km region. After 3 years of experience, INEA would like to share the lessons learned from this roll-out
Model that Solve the Information Recovery Problems, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2014, nr 4
The main part of the information ensuring in information and communication systems (ICS) is the provision for the development of methods for monitoring, optimization and forecasting facilities. Accordingly, an important issue of information security is a challenge to improve the monitoring systems accuracy. One way is to restore the information from the primary control sensors. Such sensors may be implemented in the form of technical devices, and as a hardware and software systems. This paper reviews and analyzes the information recovery models using data from monitoring systems that watch the state of information systems objects and highlights its advantages and disadvantages. The aim of proposed modeling is to improve the accuracy of monitoring systems
Ograniczenia w możliwościach skutecznej implementacji planów regulacyjnych w sektorach telekomunikacyjnych krajów rozwijających się. Telekomunikacja i Techniki Informacyjne, 2014, nr 3-4
Artykuł opisuje problemy regulacyjne w krajach o niewykształconych mechanizmach instytucjonalno-politycznych, gdzie wysokie poziomy asymetrii informacji i trudności z egzekwowaniem umów przesądzają o możliwości stosowania narzędzi regulacyjnych skazujących gospodarki na niskie poziomy efektywności.
Usability Analysis of a Novel Biometric Authentication Approach for Android-Based Mobile Devices, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2014, nr 4
Mobile devices are widely replacing the standard personal computers thanks to their small size and userfriendly use. As a consequence, the amount of information, often confidential, exchanged through these devices is raising. This makes them potential targets of malicious network hackers. The use of simple passwords or PIN are not sufficient to provide a suitable security level for those applications requiring high protection levels on data and services. In this paper a biometric authentication system, as a running Android application, has been developed and implemented on a real mobile device. A system test on real users has been also carried out in order to evaluate the human-machine interaction quality, the recognition accuracy of the proposed technique, and the scheduling latency of the operating system and its degree of acceptance. Several measures, such as system usability, users satisfaction, and tolerable speed for identification, have been carried out in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach
Model-Based Availability Evaluation of Composed Web Services, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2014, nr 4
Web services composition is an emerging software development paradigm for the implementation of distributed computing systems, the impact of which is very relevant both in research and industry. When a complex functionality has to be delivered on the Internet, a service integrator can produce added value by delivering more abstract and complex services obtained by composition of existing ones. But while isolated services availability can be improved by tuning and reconguring their hosting servers, with Composed Web Services (CWS) basic services must be taken as they are. In this case, it is necessary to evaluate the composition effects. The authors propose a high-level analysis methodology, supported by a tool, based on the transformation of BPEL descriptions of CWS into models based on the fault tree availability evaluation formalism that enables a modeler, unfamiliar with the underlying combinatorial probabilistic mathematics, to evaluate the availability of CWS, given components availability and expected execution behavior
Music Recommendation System, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2014, nr 2
The paper focuses on optimization vector content feature for the music recommendation system. For the purpose of experiments a database is created consisting of excerpts of music les. They are assigned to 22 classes corresponding to di erent music genres. Various feature vectors based on low-level signal descriptors are tested and then optimized using correlation analysis and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Results of the experiments are shown for the variety of feature vectors. Also, a music recommendation system is presented along with its main user interfaces
Wirtualna zajętość widma w sieciach radia kognitywnego - algorytmy oceny. Telekomunikacja i Techniki Informacyjne, 2014, nr 1-2
Artykuł zawiera ogólny przegląd problemów związanych z inżynierią widma w aspekcie radia kognitywnego, bez wiązania go z jakąkolwiek specyficzną technologią, zakresem częstotliwości lub zastosowaniem.
A Detector of Sleep Disorders for Using at Home, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2014, nr 2
Obstructive sleep apnea usually requires all-night examination in a specialized clinic, under the supervision of a medical staff. Because of those requirements it is an expensive and a non-widely utilized test. Moving the examination procedure to patients’ home with automatic analysis algorithms involved will decrease the costs and make it available for larger group of patients. The developed device allows all-night recordings of the following biosignals: three channels ECG, thoracic impedance (respiration), snoring sounds and larynx vibrations. Additional information, like patient’s body position changes and electrodes’ attachment quality are estimated as well. The reproducible and high quality signals are obtained using the developed and unobtrusive device
