    Possibilities to Optimize QoS with Next SON Versions, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2015, nr 1

    The paper discusses quality of service in LTE and LTE-A networks seen as a challenge that can be met with Self- Organizing Networks (SON) functionalities. The SON concepts have been included in the LTE (E-UTRAN) standards since the first release of the LTE technology. Self-optimization functionalities will monitor and analyze performance measurements, notifications, and self-test results and will automatically trigger re-configuration actions on the affected network nodes when necessary. The SON specifications have been built over the existing 3GPP network management architecture, the ultimate implementation of SON in 4G networks will bring many advantages. Successive SON procedures are waiting for their time and money to be implemented in 4G, though some essential issues for example of inter Radio Access Technology (RAT) interfaces must be overworked

    Artykuł ten stanowi refleksję po konferencji Społeczeństwo Informacyjne na Rozstajach – Odpowiedź i Odpowiedzialność Nauk Informacyjnych, zorganizowanej przez Politechnikę Wiedeńską w czerwcu 2015 roku. Konferencja wskazuje na wzrost znaczenia informatyki społecznej, czyli współpracy transdyscyplinarnej nauk społecznych i informatyki wobec ważnych skutków społecznych rewolucji informacyjnej. Artykuł przedstawia też wnioski o percepcji referatu autora o przyszłości pracy w społeczeństwie informacyjnym na tej konferencji. Wielkie zainteresowanie nauk społecznych skutkami rewolucji informacyjnej jest zjawiskiem bardzo pozytywnym, ale nadal dominuje w tych naukach niepełne i nieprecyzyjne rozumienie techniki, co wynika z braku nauczania dostatecznej liczby przedmiotów technicznych w programach uczelni humanistycznych i społecznych

    A New Implementation of UWB CRLH Based Antennas for Wireless Communications, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2015, nr 1

    In this article, a novel ultra wideband (UWB) small antennas based on the composite right/left-handed transmission lines structures are proposed. The antennas are presented with best in size, bandwidth and radiation patterns. Their physical size and the operational frequency depend on the unit cell size and the equivalent transmission line model parameters of the CRLH-TL. To realize characteristics of first proposed model, Q-shaped gaps printed into rectangular radiation patches are used. The antenna based on composite right/left-handed transmission lines is composed of two unit cells, each of which occupies only 10.8 8.6 mm and covers the 2.7{9.3 GHz bandwidth for VSWR < 2. The peak gain and radiation efficiency, are 5.78 dBi and 42.1% 9.3 GHz, respectively. Moreover, the second designed antenna has the same size and enhancement bandwidth, gain and radiation efficiency than the first proposed antenna with similar design procedure. It is constructed of the printed Q-shaped four unit cells. The length, width and height are 21.6, 8.6 and 1.6 mm, respectively, and it covers 4.1{11.7 GHz bandwidth for VSWR < 2 having highest gain (7.18 dBi) and radiation efficiency (92.69%) at 4.1 GHz

    Wind Farms Influence on Radiocommunication Systems Operating in the VHF and UHF Bands, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2015, nr 2

    The following paper discusses several aspects connected with the wind farms’ impact on radiocommunication systems. The first part of this article is filled with the analysis of the ITU-R BT.1893 model, which was originally created for the analysis of the interaction between the wind turbines anddigital TV receivers in the UHF band. A measurement campaign carried out by the authors confirmed that this model is also applicable for the lower, maritime VHF band. Utilizing the software implementation of this model, the authors conducted a thorough simulation analysis of the wind turbines’ influence on radio systems working in both VHF and UHF bands. The results of these simulations are presented and discussed in the second part of the paper

    Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been used in numerous applications to remotely gather real-time data on important environmental parameters. There are several projects where WSNs are deployed in different locations and operate independently. Each deployment has its own models, encodings, and services for sensor data, and are integrated with different types of visualization/analysis tools based on individual project requirements. This makes it difficult to reuse these services for other WSN applications. A user/system is impeded by having to learn the models, encodings, and services of each system, and also must integrate/interoperate data from different data sources. Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) provides a set of standards (web service interfaces and data encoding/model specifications) to make sensor data publicly available on the web. This paper describes how the SWE framework can be extended to integrate disparate WSN systems and to support standardized access to sensor data. The proposed system also introduces a web-based data visualization and statistical analysis service for data stored in the Sensor Observation Service (SOS) by integrating open source technologies. A performance analysis is presented to show that the additional features have minimal impact on the system. Also some lessons learned through implementing SWE are discussed

    A k-Nearest Neighbors Method for Classifying User Sessions in E-Commerce Scenario, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2015, nr 3

    This paper addresses the problem of classification of user sessions in an online store into two classes: buying sessions (during which a purchase confirmation occurs) and browsing sessions. As interactions connected with a purchase confirmation are typically completed at the end of user sessions, some information describing active sessions may be observed and used to assess the probability of making a purchase. The authors formulate the problem of predicting buying sessions in a Web store as a supervised classification problem where there are two target classes, connected with the fact of finalizing a purchase transaction in session or not, and a feature vector containing some variables describing user sessions. The presented approach uses the k-Nearest Neighbors (k-NN) classification. Based on historical data obtained from online bookstore log files a k-NN classifier was built and its efficiency was verified for different neighborhood sizes. A 11-NN classifier was the most effective both in terms of buying session predictions and overall predictions, achieving sensitivity of 87.5% and accuracy of 99.85%

    Wavelets are becoming increasingly used as a tool for the analysis of non-stationary data. To transmit the coefficients resulting from the signal decomposition traditionally their combination into a single data packet is used, without including unequal energy contribution of each factor and impact of the decomposition level. This paper analyzes (at different transmission speeds) the signals properties produced by classical modulation methods and spline modulation for wavelet coefficients transmission proposed by the author. For all signal types the additive Gaussian noise is used as a noise disturbance
