No full textWHY THIS SUBJECT?: I wanted to capture the effect the pandemic is having on people other than me. The extroverts of the world are longing for social interaction, or even to just go outside and enjoy the company of people other than their families.
STAYING INDOORS THOUGHTS: Shelter in place is both the same and different for everyone. Everyone is under the same orders, but each experience is different. Some are handling it okay, some are destroyed by it. There are different degrees of distraught among everyone, and sometimes that\u27s hard to see just by looking at a photo of someone or talking to them every once and awhile. Many keep what they are feeling to themselves because they just don\u27t know how to deal with it. There\u27s no doubt that everyone wants this to be over, but it should be very clear that it can\u27t end unless people comply with the shelter in place orders. It\u27s difficult, but it has to be done.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE IMAGE: I decided to shoot through the window not only to maintain social distancing measures, but to capture the idea of being stuck indoors. Interview with Elaine Greiner
Get PDFElaine Greiner (she/they) was born in Des Moines, Iowa. She grew up an only child of divorced parents living in the city of Des Moines. Throughout their high school career, Greiner was a proud member of the Sharks, the school’s synchronized swimming team. In the spring of 2017, Greiner graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School. Follow graduation, Greiner continued their studies in Illinois by enrolling in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s fashion program and at the end of her sophomore year, Greiner transferred to the fashion program at Columbia College Chicago. In the spring semester of 2020, she secured a summer internship with Cynthia Rowley in New York City and lived and worked in Chicago during the spring semester. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Greiner was urged by her family to return home. After seeing her roommate return home to Taiwan amidst the outbreak, Greiner drove back to Iowa. Interview with Christen Weeden
Get PDFChristen Weeden was born in Lansing Illinois. As a young girl Christen enjoyed doing arts and crafts with her mom, Cindi, whose her overall inspiration. Christen knew at a young age she would attend Columbia College Chicago. Since the age of 3 Christen was a dancer, competing in dance competitions, and her dance instructors urged her to attend Columbia. In high school she volunteered as a cheerleading coach at St. Ann School and was also a dance coach for her high school Bishop Noel Institute after graduation. Christen was diagnosed with POTS auto immune disease in 2016. Even though dance is her passion she decided to attend Columbia College for fashion merchandising after working at American Eagle and meeting her manager and career mentor Lindsay Palmateer. Christen started as a sales associate and quickly became a Merchandise Manager for the brand in 2019 and still holds this position. Get PDFLa-Sheba (Goldie) Williams (she/her/hers) was raised in Miami, Florida. She attended Dr. Michael Krop high school and is a recent graduate of Columbia College Chicago where she majored in acting. In her high school years, Williams travelled back and forth from Jamaica with her parents. Between 2008-2013 she volunteered with her church’s (The Friendship Holiness Church) outreach program to travel and distribute food and clothes to less fortunate people. From age 16-18 she worked at her mother’s beauty salon, while also starting her own freelance hair, makeup, and styling business, Goldy Mane, in 2016. She pursued theatre heavily in high school, participating in thespian competitions. In 2017, she started working towards a brand titled Lioness Unleashed, which centers around female empowerment, mindfulness, and connectivity. Since coming to Columbia College Chicago, he has been very active in the Theatre Department, being cast in several shows since 2016. In the show “Young, Gifted, and Black” she met and worked with her mentor Don Renee, who quickly became a major influence and role model in her life.https://digitalcommons.colum.edu/capturingquarantine/1004/thumbnail.jp
