No full textWHY THIS SUBJECT? I choose this subject because I wanted to focus on a group that is heavily underrepresented while at the same time heavily misrepresented. Majority of my life I have barely seen black women who fit the role of role model or who have seen so much success just like white men and women. We struggle so much just for being who we are but we would rather be nobody else.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? My work is supposed to show the struggles that black women face and how strong they are. We are faced with numerous challenges for being black and being a women, yet we still look ahead and forge on. That\u27s how powerful we are. We have the ability to do so much if we were given the chance to.
WHAT WAS YOUR PROCESS? I struggled at first about who or what I wanted to focus on. Then I realized that I wanted to give black women the spotlight for a change. I used a model with an afro that looked unapologetic to represent black women. Disrespected, Unprotected and Neglected are words Malcolm X used to describe black women in America. Intelligent and Unapologetic are words I would add on. WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? I really wanted to focus my poster on the issue of deforestation and how it has led to the immense loss of biodiversity. This is a massive problem that the earth has been, and is currently facing, and we need to act fast in order to save our planet and wildlife.

No full textWHY THIS SUBJECT? I knew I wanted to use this opportunity to say something about exploring my gender identity. It\u27s a really important issue to me, trans rights and the opportunity to test out different ways how you want to live your life on this earth.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? What should you know about this work. That\u27s a good question. I don\u27t think it\u27s any sort of groundbreaking achievement in visual design or messaging, necessarily. I chose colors I thought looked were pretty. I used a framing I thought looked nice. I really just tried to make it as beautiful and expressive as I could with my limited skillset.
WHAT WAS YOUR PROCESS? don\u27t feel like my process was especially extraordinary or unusual, I took some basic silhouette images that I found online and just used Photoshop to make them do interesting things. No full textWHY THIS SUBJECT? I like animals and they are treated horribly. It\u27s pretty messed up considering humans are animals too.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? I made it in a cutesy cartoony way because there is no drama or backlash when using that type of style. More people are likely to give it a chance if it isn\u27t super extreme in some area. All the most well know and iconic design\u27s are simple. Also it\u27s pretty much in my style, which is my favorite style.

Your Bible Does Not Dictate My Body
No full textWHY THIS SUBJECT? This topic is extremely important right now considering the extremely probable overturn of Roe V. Wade in the Supreme Court.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW? It became increasingly important to me to make this poster as the semester went on and as the national situation got progressively worse for women. I was inspired by the AfriCOBRA movement to use traditionally feminine colors for this poster as a way to “take them back” as they did with Kool-Aid colors. This is why the dominant colors are pink and purple, and the same concept goes behind the inclusion of flowers, to make the poster “pretty” and “girly”. The background consists of photographs from the speeches and marches for legal and safe abortion from the Roe v Wade era. These were powerful to me because they send recognition back to the women who got it legalized in the first place and show the long struggle for this right to their own bodies. In the overlapping photographs the words on some of the signs were emboldened to reinforce the central message of the poster. From viewing the other posters in class, I knew that making the central message bold and easily visible was important if the goal was to grab attention, so mine is easily legible and bold. The outline of the woman crossing her arms over her womb on the poster is to remind the viewer of the sacred and natural right that a woman has over her own body and what she does with it.

Seeing Depression
No full textWHAT SHOULD WE KNOW? The colorful ones represent the many different people that walk around for their day to day life, while the white outline people represent those with depression, with the feeling of being see - through, invisible, quiet, and unnoticed.
WHAT WAS YOUR TECHNIQUE/PROCESS? What I did for this project was I looked at myself and my constant thoughts that I have and put them in my message. when I was walking to my classes in Chicago, my eyes tend to wander everywhere, and seeing the strangers walk by me, I thought What\u27s their story? what\u27s going on with them? are they better? worse? who know? . I put this into the picture itself to show that anyone can have mental issues, not just depression, and nobody can tell from just a glance.
