No full textWHAT THIS SUBJECT? I chose to portray the difficulties that both teachers and students are facing right now during the pandemic, because I\u27ve seen both nearly firsthand, being a student, and also seeing my mother, who is a teacher, struggle with bringing work home and the difficulties that come with educating and learning in a pandemic.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? Each of the three images has a parallel issue on both sides. In image 3, for example, both the teacher on the left and the student on the right are having issues getting work done, while also balancing responsibilities. I chose to include the same bold message in each image to connect the pieces, and also to boldly and simply state my message, which is to just support each other right now, but also, after the pandemic as well.
WHAT WAS YOUR PROCESS? I made some initial sketches of my idea, and then made a digital mock-up as well before creating the final pieces. No full textWHY THIS SUBJECT? Racial segregation did not die with the end of Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Just because we do not have signs that say “whites only” does not mean that it is not implied by decades of historic and systematic racism. Segregation has been embedded through governmental policies and resident action. This present day segregation is so deeply rooted in our society. Its normalization leaves it largely disregarded. We see it everyday, and yet we refuse to see it.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? Despite Chicago’s beautiful diversity it holds the title of one of the most segregated cities in the United States. By continuing to racialize and promote the stereotypes of neighborhoods we contribute towards the issues at hand.

WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? This piece is comprised of obviously the earth, but more importantly all the environmental issues occurring. I also added a website url to be used as a stepping stone for the viewer to check it out and be more familiar with this topic.
WHAT WAS YOUR PROCESS? first started with the globe and added the rings around it that symbolize energies. Then I added the smoke stacks that look like they are burning the earth. Will I Ever Be Seen As Equal?
No full textWHY THIS SUBJECT? LGBTQ+ discrimination in the workplace is something not openly addressed, and many members of the community feel uncomfortable even sharing with coworkers that aspect of their personal lives. This poster\u27s aim is to add commentary to this issue and topic.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW? When thinking about what topic to choose, and what direction I wanted to take my final poster in, I thought about focusing on something that we didn\u27t necessarily focus on too much in our class. LGBTQ+ issues are very important to me, especially since I happen to be a part of that community. I thought about some ways in which these people face adversity, other than the potentially obvious ways. In my poster image, the male figure is holding a piece of paper with the word “Fired” on top, implying he was just given the form from his employer. The topic of my piece comes through in a more subtle way, through the rainbow pocket square in the figure’s jacket. It represents his sexuality and highlights it in not an overly exploitative way, but it gets the message of the piece across of LGBTQ+ discrimination in the workplace. I learned about the ways in which we can analyze images, and draw deeper meaning using contextual clues from worksheets like the Document Analysis one. I would say that document impacted the creation of this piece the most because it reminded me how to make my poster in a way in the most easily interpreted way, but still keeping it rooted in being a conceptual piece that forces viewers to take a closer look. Our discussion on Emory Douglas also influenced me while making this piece, because it allowed me to think more about how to make my piece have a strong message or topic at its core, and though my poster isn’t as politically charged as much of Douglas’ work, it still influenced me.

No full textWHY THIS SUBJECT? I came up with the idea when I was doing research for another course. I wrote an essay about women images in advertising industry, which is relative to our final topics. Then I started to design and visualize the powerful women in my mind.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? The topic of my work is powerful women, which is quite a broad one. I drew two women figures to represent two basic skills, power and intelligence. I also made several icons like cooperation, academic and physical strength to decorate the poster. The main idea is that we should not define women. Women can be whoever they want and don\u27t need others\u27 permission. Powerful can be defined from multiple perspectives.
