    THE EFFECT OF PERFORMING DRAMA ON STUDENTS’ PRONUNCIATION AT SMP KRISTEN YHS MAKASSAR

    This research aimed to find out whether or not the used performing drama had effect on students pronunciation. The writer used quasy experimental method which involved one class as the subject of the research. The population was VII grade students at SMP Kristen YHS Makassar. Sample in this research was class VII C which consists of 27 students. In this research the writer gathering data by given oral test in pre-test and post-test consist of 10 words to be pronounce by the students. All of the words the writer took from the script of Cinderella. Pre-test is given to find out how far the students ability before they were given treatment by performing drama. The writer gave the post test to know the students improvement after they were given treatment.  The writer analyzed data to find the mean score, the different between pre-test and post-test used statistic formula.   The result of the research showed that there was a significant different which gained by the students in pre-test and post-test. it can be concluded that performing drama in teaching speaking has significant effect on students’ pronunciation at SMP Kristen YHS Makassar. It can be seen from the students’ mean score of posttest which was 77 and the t-test of the students’ pronunciation achievement in posttest was higher than α (23.085 > 0.05)

    This article discusses a study on English teacher perceptions of English as a global language in Indonesia. The goals of this research are to determine whether non-native English teachers in Indonesia recognize the rising role of English in the global world, particularly in Indonesian schools, and to learn how those teachers assess the effects of English on Indonesian language and culture. Five English teachers from various secondary schools took part in this study. Data were collected through an open questionnaire. As a result, all of the participants' comments were consistent, stating that English was indisputably crucial in today's competitive world. They tend to have highly positive perceptions of English as a way of connecting with the international community and supporting Indonesian communicative functions. There is also an amazing unanimity that English can coexist beneficially in this country, even though many people argue that the language has a harmful impact on Indonesia

    ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY THROUGH THE DISCOVERY LEARNING MODEL: A STUDY AMONG PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENTS AT THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION, UNIVERSITAS NEGERI MAKASSAR

    This research investigates the impact of the Discovery Learning model on the environmental literacy of students in the Primary School Teacher Education Program (PGSD) at the Faculty of Education (FIP), Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM). Utilizing an experimental quantitative approach, the study evaluates changes in students’ understanding and skills before and after the implementation of a learning model focused on discovery and exploration. The results indicate a significant increase in the average scores from pretest to posttest, as evidenced by descriptive statistical analysis and confirmed through a T-test with a Sig. (2-tailed) value of less than 0.05. These findings affirm that the Discovery Learning model is effective in enhancing students’ environmental literacy, which encompasses not only theoretical knowledge but also critical, analytical, and reflective thinking skills. The practical implications of this research recommend the integration of the Discovery Learning model into the environmental education curriculum, suggesting a more interactive and student-centered learning approach, and highlighting the importance of continuous education and lifelong learning

    NETIZENS' PERCEPTION OF MUSEUM PUSAKA NIAS AS A TOURISM DESTINATION ON THE FACEBOOK PLATFORM IN GUNUNGSITOLI

    This study examines netizens' perceptions of the Nias Heritage Museum as a tourism destination through analysis of comments on the museum's Facebook platform. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research analyzes Facebook posts and comments from 2023-2024 to understand how social media users perceive and engage with the museum online. The study employs sociolinguistic analysis to examine language variation, identity expression, cultural context, and language functions in user comments. Findings indicate generally positive perceptions of the museum, with netizens using both Indonesian and the Nias regional language to express cultural pride and identity. The research reveals that posts with diverse language use and strong cultural context generate higher engagement. Additionally, the study demonstrates the effectiveness of Facebook as a promotional tool for the museum, highlighting the platform's ability to reach a wide audience and foster community interaction. This research contributes to understanding digital communication strategies for cultural heritage sites and offers insights for optimizing social media engagement in cultural tourism contexts

    EFL Students' Metacognitive Strategies in Learning Vocabulary

    This research aims to find out the metacognitive strategies used by students to learn vocabulary. This research is quantitative descriptive. In four semesters, questionnaires were distributed to 116 students in the English Language Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Kendari. From the research results it was found that overall in the planning aspect the highest percentage 41% shows that students sometimes plan before studying, the strategy they often use is to read the instructions carefully before starting the task related to vocabulary improvement. while for comprehension monitoring it was found that the highest percentage was 44%, which shows that students sometimes carry out comprehension monitoring to deepen their vocabulary. The types of strategies they often use are pausing while doing the task to check their understanding of vocabulary and asking them-self how well they understand when adding new vocabulary. For the information management strategy aspect, the overall result shows that the majority of students sometimes use this information management strategy with the highest percentage being 37%. The type of strategy they often use is focused on the meaning and importance of new vocabulary. In addition, the overall highest percentage in debugging strategy is 37%, which shows that students often use debugging strategies in learning vocabulary. The strategy they often use is to stop and reread the word when they are in doubts. Lastly, for evaluation aspect shows that students sometimes carry out evaluations in learning vocabulary, with the highest percentage is 43%, the type of strategy they often use is asking themselves about how good they are when learning new vocabulary, especially when it comes to developing vocabulary

    APPLICATION OF THE LEARNING CYCLE LEARNING MODEL TO THE BIOLOGY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF CLASS

    This type of research is experimental research with a research design in the form of a pretest-posttest control group design. The objectives of carrying out this research are (1) to find out the description of the biology learning outcomes of students who are taught using the Learning Cycle model, (2) to find out the description of the biology learning outcomes of students who are taught without the Learning Cycle model, (3) to find out the differences in the biology learning outcomes of students who are taught with the Learning Cycle model. Learning Cycle with students taught without the Learning Cycle model. The independent variable in this research is the Learning Cycle learning model and the dependent variable is student biology learning outcomes. The subjects in this research were 38 students in class X IPA1 and X IPA2 at SMA Negeri 1 Gowa. The data collection technique in this research is by using students' biology learning outcomes tests. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique is by using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis techniques. The results of this research show that there are differences between students taught using the Learning Cycle model and students taught without the Learning Cycle model.   Keywords: Learning Cycle, Learning Outcome

    PENINGKATAN KETERAMPILAN MEMBACA MELALUI METODE PEMBELAJARAN KONTEKSTUAL PADA SISWA KELAS III SD INPRES DAYA MAKASSAR

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca nyaring siswa kelas III SD Inpres Daya Makassar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) atau disebut juga dengan Classroom Action Research yaitu proses pengkajian masalah pembelajaran di dalam kelas melalui refleksi diri dalam upaya tindakan yang terencana dalam situasi nyata serta menganalisis setiap pengaruh dari perlakuan tersebut. Dengan teknik pengumpulan data yaitu observasi, tes, dan dokumentasi. Sumber dari data adalah siswa kelas III yang berjumlah 20 siswa dan guru kelas III sebagai kolaborator. Penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilaksanakan pada Siklus I dan Siklus II metode pembelajaran kontekstual pada mata pemalajaran Bahasa Indonesia terbukt telah meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa. Hal tersebut terlihat dari hasil persentase ketuntasan belajar siswa pada tahap Siklus 1 sebesar 60% dan meningkat pada Siklus II yaitu sebesar 85%. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahawa penggunaan metode pembelajaran kontekstual dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pada siswa kelas III SD Inpres Daya Makassar

    A LINK BETWEEN STUDENTS' MOTIVATION TO LEARN ENGLISH AND TEACHERS' TEACHING PHILOSOPHIES

    The study aims to find out the correlation between the teaching style of the teacher and the motivation of the student in learning English. The type of research used in this study is quantitative research with the subject of research students of class X SMAN 1 Kalukku Teaching Year 2023/2024 where there are 105 students in which there are three classes that are samples in this research namely class X.1, X,2, and X.3. This research variable consists of a bound variable and a free variable. The bound Variable of this research is the correlation between the teaching style of the teacher and the motivation of the student in the learning of the English language while for the variable free of this study is the teacher's learning style. The instrument used in this research is a questionnaire that contains information about the teaching style of the teacher and the motivation of the student to learn. The analysis of the research data uses descriptive statistical analysis in the form of percentages and correlation analysis with the Spearman Correlation Test. The results of the study showed that there was a strong correlation between the Teaching Style and Student Motivation in SMAN 1 Kaluku with a correlative value of 0.588 which means that the presence of some teaching style indicators increased student motivation and the determination coefficient of 34.5% which means the variation of the teacher's teaching styling model was 34.5% and the rest was determined by other factors. Of the five types of teaching styles given Facilitator style which had a strong Correlation with Student Motivations SMAN1 Kaluku was 0.604 and a determination factor of 36.48%. So based on the findings and data analysis available it can be concluded that the teacher's learning style has a strong influence on student learning motivation in learning English. &nbsp

    ANALYSIS OF CONCEPT UNDERSTANDING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF LEARNING THEORY OF PGSD STUDENTS OF MATARAM UNIVERSITY

    This study aims to describe the understanding of 6C PGSD students regarding learning theories and their implementation in teaching, focusing on aspects of theoretical comprehension, application, evaluation, and integration with elementary school curricula. This descriptive study involved 37 students enrolled in the Microteaching course. Data were collected through a Google Form questionnaire during November-December 2024. The results revealed that students' understanding levels were categorised as fairly good. Comprehension in the context of education reached 65%, application of theory 61%, evaluation and analysis of theory 68%, and integration of theory with elementary school curricula 64%. A portion of the students were categorised as highly proficient, particularly in the evaluation and analysis aspect (24%). However, some students still faced challenges, especially in applying theory (8%). These findings indicate that while students generally have a solid foundational understanding of learning theories, they require further reinforcement through intensive practice and applied learning approaches to enhance their implementation skills

    PRE-TEACHER STUDENT WITH PROBLEMS OF HANDLING ENGLISH TEACHING PRACTICE IN MICROTEACHING CLASS ACTIVITY: MANAGING CLASSROOM INTERACTION AND APPLYING COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING-BASED

    This study aims to find out the student’s problems in handling microteaching class as a pre-teacher. Through observation and interview some findings have been found data and then analyzed the data through descriptive qualitative method. In this research involved fifteen of students as the subject research who are as pre-teacher and participant who are observed and interviewed. The sample as subject research of this study are students are studying at faculty of trainer and education Universitas MUhammadiyah Makassar. The findings of this study provided and described qualitatively. The result findings of the study showed there are ten problems related to classroom management appeared on the pre-teacher when they practice microteaching. Through observation, some of the problems exactly mostly happen to other teacher generally when their teaching such as problem in implementing language use communicatively in teaching interaction, usage language function appropriately, and miss of distributing feedback and evaluation before close the teaching. Data from interviewed showed that many factors influencing the problems on them. Refers to the factors, exactly the factors mostly come from the students itself, it means that the factors are categorized in internal factors of the pre-teacher itself. In this discussion also provided the solution to solve the problems with clear description in order that is would be valuable to the next researcher or for a reader
