The basis of the library holdings was made by the collection of bibliophile and local historian Ivan Vtorov, who presented it as a gift to the city. Get PDF120th anniversary of the great poet of Russia S. Yesenin was celebrated by the entire literary world. The article is devoted to the prominent Russian library scientist Konstantin Ivanovich Abramov. There is noted his participation in the Great Patriotic War. It is characterized his activities associated with the Moscow Library Institute (nowadays - the Moscow State Institute of Culture): studentship, postgraduate study, teaching, managing the department of library science, etc. There is presented his work at the Lenin State Library of the USSR (GBL, nowadays - the Russian State Library, RSL), as well as his social activities. There are listed the awards of K. Abramov and demonstrated his involvement in the international library activities. There is considered in detail the contribution of Konstantin Ivanovich to the library science (the history of librarianship, including methodology of the history of librarianship; general library science, in particular the theme “Library and Power”. There are characterized the papers by K. Abramov, written in 1990-ies. There is shown contribution of K. Abramov in the library education, considering him being the head of the Department and scientific supervisor of postgraduate students.Статья посвящена выдающемуся российскому библиотековеду Константину Ивановичу Абрамову (к 95-летию со дня рождения). Отмечено его участие в Великой Отечественной войне. Характеризуется его деятельность, связанная с Московским библиотечным институтом (ныне Московский государственный институт культуры): студенчество, аспирантура, преподавание, заведование кафедрой библиотековедения и др. Представлена его работа в Государственной библиотеке СССР им. В.И. Ленина (ГБЛ, ныне - Российская государственная библиотека, РГБ), общественная деятельность. Названы награды К.И. Абрамова. Показано его участие в международной библиотечной деятельности. Подробно рассмотрен вклад Константина Ивановича в библиотековедение (историю библиотечного дела, в том числе методологию истории библиотечного дела; общее библиотековедение, в частности тему «библиотека и власть»). Get PDFThere is considered the experience of trusteeship of people’s sobriety in organizing free public libraries and reading rooms, in conducting educational activities in Orel province in late XIX - early XX century. Since late nineteenth century the Russian State and the Russian Orthodox Church, realizing that the main cause of alcoholism is the low level of spiritual and moral life of the nation, have joined their forces to address this problem. Together they built an integrated system of education and upbringing of people in the spirit of sobriety and piety by creating trusteeships of national sobriety. Analysis of data on the number of libraries organized by the trusteeships of people’s sobriety on the territory of the Russian Empire in 1902-1910, allows to conclude that the greatest number of the trusteeship libraries functioned in the years 1905-1906. In 1906-1909, their number decreased. Among 3915 trusteeship libraries in 1910, 70% were affiliated at different institutions, 11% were placed in specially hired premises and 19% at guardianship institutions, mainly in teahouses. In total, there are identified 128 libraries, opened by trusteeships in the Orel province. Library and educational activity of trusteeships of people’s sobriety in the Russian Empire in late XIX - early XX century gives the possibility of using the historical experience for interaction of the local governments, social movements, and libraries for the purpose of maintenance of temperance in modern conditions

Get PDFInternational Association of Bibliophiles (IAB), established in 1961 in Paris, brings together librarians, publishers, collectors of rare books, conservators, conservation specialists, bookbinders, businessmen, lawyers, and diplomats. The Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences (BAN) is the Member of the IAB since 1994. BAN became the organizer of the Colloquium in St. Petersburg. Meetings of bibliophiles are held annually in different countries. The article presents the activities of the Colloquium of bibliophiles in Cape town (South Africa) in 2002. There are described the exhibitions of books, manuscripts and documents from the collections of the Library of Center of Books in Cape town, the National Library of South Africa, Library of the University of Cape town, University of Stellenbosch, library of the English and South African Politician Cecil John Rhodes and private collections. Exhibition materials reflect the history of African book culture.Международная ассоциация библиофилов (МАБ), созданная в 1961 г. в Париже, объединяет библиотекарей, издателей, собирателей редких книг, реставраторов, специалистов по консервации, переплетчиков, бизнесменов, юристов, дипломатов.
