No full textThe first plubished treatise on conifers, written by Pierre Belon. Bellonius, appeared in 1553. In it the natural tradition of Teophrastus, Dioscorides and Pliny is combined with direct observation and journeys of botanical exploration following the example of the author's master Valerius Cordus. Despite its obvious interest, this work has remained virtually unknown in the history of Botany.El primer tratado publicado sobre coníferas apareció en 1553, escrito por Pierre Belon, Bellonius. Conjuga en él la tradición naturalista de Teofrasto, Dioscórides y Plinio, con la observación directa y los viajes de herborización, siguiendo el ejemplo de su maestro Valerius Cordus. No obstante su obvio interés, ha permanecido casi desconocido para la historia de la botánica

Species composition and structure of a photophilic algal community dominated by Halopteris scoparia (L.) Sauvageau from the North-Western Mediterranean
No full textA photophilic agal community dominated by Halopteris scoparia and other brown algae is described from sheltered environments from the North-Western Mediterranean rocky bottoms. This community is included in the Padino-Cladostephetum hirsutae previously described by FELDMANN(1937) for the same geographical area. This plant association is characterized by the lack of an upper erect stratum of Fucales and by the low degree of presence of thermophilic species which typify other similar communities described from other Mediterranean areas. Algal biomass ranges from 1100 to 2500 g dw m-2 and coverage percentage ranges from 250 to 450 %. The great miniaturization and the extraordinary diversity and species richness of Mediterranean photophilic algal communities is assessed. Although there is not a clear seasonal change in biomass of the dominant species in the community, two structural stages can be discerned along an annual cycle: a developed community (summer) and a diversified community (winter). Finally, the community structure and the environmental factors that impinge upon it are compared with those found in other Mediterranean phytobenthic communities.Se describe una comunidad de algas fotófilas mediterráneas de modo calmado dominada por Hatopteris scoparia y otros feófitos de porte mediano, la cual se adscribe a la asociación Padino-Clodostephetum hirsutae J. Feldmann 1937. Dicha asociación se caracteriza por la ausencia de un estrato elevado de Fucales y el escaso grado de presencia de especies termófilas propia de comunidades similares descritas de otras zonas del Mediterráneo. La biomasa algal oscila entre 1100 y 2500 g ps m-2 mientras que el porcentaje de recubrimiento varía entre el 250 y el 450%. Se pone de manifiesto la gran miniaturización de las comunidades de algas fotólitas mediterráneas y su extraordinaria diversidad y riqueza especificas. Pese a no existir un claro cambio estacional de biomasa en la especie dominante, es posible distinguir la existencia de dos estadios estructurales en la comunidad a lo largo del año: un estadio de comunidad desarrollada (verano) y un estadio de comunidad diversificada (invierno). Finalmente se compara la estructura de la comunidad y los factores ambientales a los que está sometida con los descritos para otras comunidades mediterráneas similares

Fruit and seed morphology of Euphorbia aggr. Flavicoma. Taxonomic implications
No full textCapsule and seed morphology ofW. European species of Euphorbia aggr. flavicoma has been studied. A total of 1500 seeds coming from 13 taxa have been investigated under light microscope, scanning electron microscope and binocular stereoscope. Data were processed by multivariate analysis and the corresponding dendrogram is presented . At the end of the paper, a key is presented allowing to the separation of taxa down to the species level.S'estudia la morfologia de les càpsules i les granes de les espècies d' Euphorbia aggr. flavicoma a l'Europa Occidental. S'ha investigat un total de 1500 granes de 13 tàxons amb microscopi òptic, microscopi electrònic de rastreig i lupa bincular. Les dades han estat sotmeses a una anàlisi multivariant i es presenta el corresponent dendrograma. Al final del treball s'aporta una clau que permet distingir els tàxons a nivell d'espècie per mitjà de caràcters de la càpsula i de la grana
