Identifying The Common Patterns Or Trends That Emerge When Analyzing Past Accidents And Incidents Involving Autopilot Systems
This study investigated to what extent over-reliance on automation, particularly autopilot systems, contributed to incidents and accidents in commercial aviation. Despite advancements in automated technologies, there is a growing concern regarding the potential consequences of pilots’ dependency on these systems. This research analyzed past key incidents to identify patterns indicating that pilots may have been inadequately prepared to assume manual control during automation failures. This study employed a qualitative approach, including semi-structured interviews with aviation professionals such as airline flight instructors, line check pilots, flight standards evaluators, and an FAA aviation safety inspector, along with qualitative surveys with professional pilots. The interviews provided expert insights into automation dependency and its impact on training and performance. The surveys also explored pilots’ experiences with automation failures and challenges in transitioning to manual control. A key focus of this study was understanding how reliance on automation affected pilots’ situational awareness and decision-making, particularly during critical moments that require manual intervention. By analyzing this data, the study identified key factors contributing to safety risks and offered recommendations to improve training and strengthen manual flying skills. These insights sought to connect the advantages of automation with the risks of reduced manual flying skills, providing practical strategies to address vulnerabilities linked to automation in 21st-century aviation
Air Traffic Trends and UAV Safety: Leveraging Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast Data for Predictive Risk Mitigation
With the significant potential of Unmanned Aircraft Vehicles (UAVs) extending throughout various fields and industries, their proliferation raises concerns regarding potential risks within the national airspace system (NAS). To enhance the safe and efficient integration of UAVs into airport environments, this paper presents an analysis of temporal statistical patterns in flight traffic, the predictive modeling of future traffic trends using machine learning, and the identification of optimal time windows for UAV operations within airports. The framework was developed using historical Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B) data obtained from the OpenSky Network. Historical flight data from Class B, C, and D airports in California are processed, and statistical analysis is carried out to identify temporal variations in flight traffic, including daily, weekly, and seasonal trends. A recurrent neural network (RNN) model incorporating Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) architecture is developed to forecast future flight counts based on historical patterns, achieving mean absolute error (MAE) values of 4.52, 2.13, and 0.87 for Class B, C, and D airports, respectively. The statistical analysis findings highlight distinct traffic patterns across airport classes, emphasizing the practicality of utilizing ADS-B data for UAV flight scheduling to minimize conflicts with manned aircraft. Additionally, the study explores the influence of external factors, including weather conditions and dataset limitations on prediction accuracy. By integrating machine learning with real-time ADS-B data, this research provides a framework for optimizing UAV operations, supporting airspace management and improving regulatory compliance for safe UAV integration into controlled airspace

The North Dakota Oral Health Program is situated within the Healthy and Safe Communities Section of the ND Department of Health and Human Services. Funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) State Actions to Improve Oral Health Outcomes enables the Oral Health Program to strengthen (1) a school-based dental sealant program (SEAL!ND); (2) efforts to promote and sustain optimal levels of CWF; (3) oral health surveillance; and (4) a pilot program to facilitate medical dental integration though blood pressure screening at dental offices. This report highlights six years of programmatic work and presents the results of the summative evaluation. The report is designed under strict specification of the CDC

In the 30-months of services, the hygienist completed 1,385 dental screenings for eligible patients

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors in Reducing Migraine Frequency in Adults: A Literature Review
This scoping review aims to evaluate current literature on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) for migraine prevention and prophylaxis in adults. Key themes and gaps in the research are identified. A systematic review was completed across two databases including PubMed and Cochrane. Fifteen studies have been examined in this review with a range of publication dates from 1999 to 2022. Based on this literature review, the author concludes that SSRIs may reduce migraine frequency and severity in the adult population through their action to increase serotonin availability and stabilize serotonin levels. Further research is needed in this area
The Effect of Patient-Centered Discharge Instructions in Reducing 30-Day Readmission Rates in Heart Failure Patients
Background: Heart failure (HF) is a leading cause of hospital readmissions, with nearly one in four patients experiencing rehospitalization within 30 days of discharge. Readmissions within this timeframe present a significant clinical and economic challenge for patients and healthcare services. Reducing 30-day readmissions has become a central goal for hospitals aiming to improve patient outcomes and minimize financial burdens.
Purpose: To evaluate whether patient-centered discharge instructions are an effective tool in reducing 30-day readmission rates for patients with HF.
Method: A literature review was conducted using PubMed and CINAHL databases. Keywords such as heart failure, readmission, education, discharge, and instructions were applied. Inclusion criteria were studies that specified the form of discharge instruction and were published within the last five years. Exclusion criteria were studies that did not identify a discharge instruction form, were published more than five years ago, or did not relate to 30-day readmission.
Results: Using patient-centered discharge instructions through one-to-one teach-back method reduced 30-day readmission rates by half. Knowledge base, competency of discharging nurses, and scheduled follow-up care were also found to be significant contributing factors.
Implications for Practice: Utilization of one-to-one teach back methods are an effective yet inexpensive method to assist in reducing 30-day readmissions. Additional forms or reducing readmissions include methods such as aggressive diuresis of patients to achieve dry weight during hospitalization, initiation of Guideline Directed Medical Therapy before discharge, education on low-sodium diets, symptom management, medication titration, and utilizing remote monitoring systems to recognize acute decompensation episodes before hospitalization are all recommended practices
Validating a Reading Comprehension Assessment for College Students: Preliminary Findings
The purpose of this study was to validate a novel reading comprehension assessment for college students named MOCCA-College. A random sample of college students (N = 63, average age of 22.5) were recruited from various education programs (e.g., first-year courses, TRIO, SONA) and completed MOCCA-College Online and were later recruited to complete face-to-face think-aloud and recall tasks, as well as standardized assessments such as the Nelson-Denny Reading Test (NDRT) and the Test of Word Reading Efficiency (TOWRE-2). Based on the think-aloud findings, correct answers on MOCCA-College were associated with meaningful connections to background knowledge. Incorrect answers were associated with irrelevant connections to background knowledge that are not helpful for comprehension. Moreover, efficiency on MOCCA-College (seconds per correct answer) demonstrated criterion validity based on the NDRT and TOWRE-2. Future research and analyses may examine assessment development, particularly for identifying nuanced individual differences in college readers’ comprehension

Efficacy of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists in Obese Women with PCOS
• Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder in reproductive aged women. • PCOS is characterized by irregular menstrual cycles, hyperandrogenism, and obesity. • This review looked at studies comparing GLP-1 receptor agonists to metformin on PCOS symptoms. • PubMed, Embase, and ScienceDirect were searched from April to July 2024 and ten articles made it past inclusion and exclusion criteria for review in this paper. • In this review, GLP-1 RAs effectively reduce weight and improve glucose metabolism in obese women with PCOS. • GLP-1 RAs in combination with metformin showed even more weight loss and improvement in markers of hyperandrogenism. • Larger studies with standardized treatment approaches and strict lifestyle modification monitoring are needed to confirm these findings.https://commons.und.edu/pas-grad-posters/1342/thumbnail.jp
