    Get PDF
Brazil is one of the world’s largest citrus producers. To maintain the uniformity of annual production during seasonality, there is a need to apply new technologies in agriculture to enhance plant productivity. Applications of plant regulators in fruit trees are part of methods to standardize production. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the use of plant growth regulators Paclobutrazol (PBZ) and Ethephon, associated with potassium sulfate and calcium nitrate foliar fertilizers, in the off-season flower induction in ‘Tahiti’ acid lime and ‘Ponkan’ mandarin crops, for off-season production. The experiment was carried out in properties located in the municipality of Aparecida do Taboado/MS, with randomized blocks design, containing 2 treatments (without/with application of plant growth regulators), 4 blocks with 50 replicates, with each plant evaluated being considered an experimental unit. At 150 days after the application of products, number of flowers per square meter of plant canopy and fruit set in both crops were evaluated, in addition to their diameter. ‘Tahiti’ acid lime plants treated with PBZ obtained average of 77.24 fruits per m²/plant canopy, while controls had 16.08 fruits m²/plant canopy. In ‘Ponkan’ mandarin, treated plants obtained 87.49 fruits per m²/plant canopy, while controls had 30.94 fruits m²/ plant canopy. The execution schedule and products used as plant regulators, especially Paclobutrazol, applied to ‘Tahiti’ acid lime and ‘Ponkan’ mandarin plants allowed significant increase in the amounts of flowers and fruits, making it possible to plan the staggering of flowering induction and production of these cultivars

Simulating Low-Level Laser Propagation From Skin Surface to Lumbar Disc, Knee, Femur and Prostate Gland By Monte Carlo Method

    Get PDF
Nowadays, the uses of laser and optics in the medical areas are extremely vivid, especially low-level laser therapy. The light with the wavelength of 633 nm to 1200 nm could penetrate and propagate deep in biological tissue. To develop the low-level laser therapy device, optimizing light delivery is critical to accurately stimulate the biological effects inside the biological tissue. Nevertheless, each form of the tissues at each zone on the body had various refractive optic, absorption, scattering, and anisotropy coefficients. This paper describes the simulation results of low-level laser propagation from skin surface at the lower spine, the knee, the femur and the prostate gland with four wavelengths (633 nm, 780 nm, 850 nm, and 940 nm) by the Monte Carlo method. These simulation results are the base for developing the low-level laser therapy device, that could be used in clinical for treating the fracture, knee osteoarthritis, spinal degeneration, and benign prostatic hypertrophy

Effect of Organic Solvents on the Synthesis and Characterization of Carboxymethyl Cellulose from Sawdust

    Get PDF
Sawdust generated as waste by-product from timber industries finds limited industrial applications and is mostly discarded or incinerated, causing environmental problems. This research work was carried out with a view of utilizing sawdust to synthesize Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). Cellulose was isolated from sawdust of commercially used hardwood (Mahogany- Khaya ivorensis) and softwood (Silk cotton- Eriodendron orientale) by alkali-acid and bleaching treatments. Using ethanol, butanol, isobutanol and isopropanol as solvent media, the isolated cellulose samples were converted to CMC through mercerization with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and etherification with sodium monochloroacetic acid (SMCA). The products obtained were characterized using Degree of Substitution (DS), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). Studies revealed that optimum DS of 0.54 could be reached when isopropanol is used as solvent medium. The presence of carboxyl and methyl functional group at wavenumber 1580-1590 and 1380-1415 cm-1 respectively on the FTIR spectra confirmed the conversion of cellulose to CMC. TGA showed that the thermal stability of CMC is lower than that of the parent cellulose. The results obtained demonstrate a simple method for the conversion of sawdust to a high quality water-soluble cellulose derivative which has applications in the food, textile, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries

The Employee’s Performance: A Study of Construct Validity and Reliability

    Get PDF
This study aims to test the validity and reliability of the employee performance scale and test aspects and indicators that can form an employee performance variable. Employee performance is measured by three aspects, namely work result, discipline, and responsibility. This study\u27s population were all employees who served in the operating room of Hospital "X" in Yogyakarta, and the number of samples in this study was 61 operating room employees at this Hospital. The sampling technique is done with simple random sampling. Data collection methods use an employee performance scale. The research data were analyzed with Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) through the SmartPLS 3.2.8 program. Based on the data analysis results, the aspects and indicators that make up the employee\u27s performance variables are declared valid and reliable. The most dominant aspect that reflects employee performance variables is discipline with loading factor 0.860, and the weakest aspect that reflects employee performance variables is the work result with a loading factor of 0.780. This shows that all aspects and indicators are able to reflect and shape employee performance variables. Thus, the measurement model can be accepted because the theory that describes employee performance variables fit with empirical data obtained from the subject
