    Optimization of Adaptive Method for Data Reduction in Wireless Sensor Networks

    The term ‘Wireless’ is a cordless technology where the nodes interact or exchange information with the sink node without wired intervention to exchange or transmit any information successfully. Characteristics of the present wireless sensor networks are applied to diverse technological furtherance in minimum power communications and very large-scale integration to sustained functionalities of sensing. Tremendous number of incentive observation and algometry of data are amassed from sensors in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) for the Internet of Things (IoT) applications such as environmental monitoring. However, continuous dissemination of the sensed data postulates eminent energy imbibing. Data reduction duress the sensor nodes to surcease transmitting the data when it is diffident about freshen up. One way to reduce this kind of energy imbibing is to minimize the amount of data exchanged across the sensors, therefore the research work aims to increase the communication and spatial prediction between the sensor nodes and the sink nodes. In this research work, an Optimization of Adaptive Method for Data Reduction in Wireless Sensor Networks was proposed and implemented. The work adopted a bulging haplotype of two decoupled Least-Mean-Square (LMS) windowed filters with varying length for approximating the immediate metrics values both at the sink and source node such that sensor nodes have to send only their next sensed values that diverse substantially (when a pre-determine threshold) from the anticipated values. The experiment conducted on a real- world dataset of about 2,313,682, which were collected from 54 Mica2dot sensors thus, MATLAB was used as a tool for the implementation. The research work aims to increase the communication model and spatial prediction, which is the limitation of the base paper. The results show that our approach (OAM-DR) has achieved up to 98% communication reduction while retaining or carrying a high accuracy, (i.e. the anticipated values have a digression of ±0.5 from actual data values)

    Subaltern Bodies in Fluid Space of a Female Body: A Feminist Existential Study of Adrienne Rich’s Poems ‘Diving in the Wreck’& ‘Planetarium’

    This research explores the subaltern bodies occupying a fluid space in a female body in Adrian Rich’s poems ‘Diving in the Wreck’ and ‘Planetarium’. Rich opines that the space of ‘female’ body is a natural home to both ‘she’ and ‘he’ simultaneously and is capable to excel in all walks of life, without being dependent on men for recognition. A search for relocation of female space in the patriarchal myth and the affirmation of the presence of both male and female sex within a single female body, as a source of power and strength is sought after in this study. The objective is to debunk the role of patriarchal myth in the construction and commodification of ‘female’ body. Moreover, our impetus for writing this research paper is to address the gap in the present scholarship regarding the recognition of the contribution made by people with diverse tendencies either homosexual, LGBTQ community and by ‘lesbian continuum’ in the postmodern era. Recognizing their talents and achievements can win them over to an equal status of efficient and responsible citizens of society. The study will incorporate the theoretical framework of Simon de Beauvoir’s feminist existentialism. It will facilitate future researchers in excavating the potentials and abilities of women, who have been downsized by hierarchal order of society

    Functional Properties and Biological Potentials of the Tunisian Green Seaweed Ulva lactuca

    Recently, seaweeds are getting importance because of their numerous bioactive compounds and their utilisation as functional ingredients in various fields ranging from food to medical. In this respect, the green macro algae Ulva lactuca, known as « sea lettuce », has been studied. Hence, physico-chemical properties and biological potentials of Ulva lactuca, obtained from Cap Zebib collecting station (North of Tunisia) on July 2021, were investigated. It was found that the green seaweed species contained high level of moisture (12.75 ± 0.05 % dry weight (DW)), protein (10.63 ± 0.2 % DW), lipid (5.64 ± 0.11 % DW) and ash (17.25 ± 0.31 % DW). The study of the functional properties showed that WHC and OHC of this alga were 9.32 ± 0.42 g water/g DW and 1.67 ± 0.59 g oil/g, respectively. Antioxidant activity of the methanolic extract was determined using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging assay. Ulva lactuca exhibited a relatively high DPPH radical scavenging activity (54.46 ± 0.39 % of inhibition) with low IC50 896.77 ± 0.31 µg/mL. Seaweed U. lactuca was screened for the potential bioactive natural substance against human pathogenic microorganisms. The methanolic extract showed the highest zone of inhibition against L. monocytogenes (17.04 ± 0.05 mm), followed by G. candicum (15.07 ± 0.09 mm),  A. niger (14.02 ± 0.02 mm), S. aureus (13.01 ± 0.01 mm), E. coli (11.01 ± 0.01 mm) and S. typhimurium (10.06 ± 0.08 mm). The present study suggested that local seaweed Ulva lactuca could be potentially used as raw materials or additives to improve the nutritive value and functional properties of foods

    Student Experiences and Perceptions of Emergency Remote Education during the COVID-19 pandemic

    This study reports students\u27 perceptions of Emergency Remote Education (ERE) during Spring 2020 in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Sultanate of Oman. Online classes replaced face-to-face teaching in the middle of March 2020. Eleven thousand one hundred eighty-one students from different HEIs in the Sultanate of Oman participated in a national online questionnaire in July 2020. Students reported the availability of adequate infrastructure as a significant issue during ERE. Fewer than half (46%) participants owned laptops, while others shared laptops with other family members. Most students utilized mobile data; less than a quarter used Wi-Fi at home. Recorded PowerPoint lectures and live lectures were the most common teaching approaches. Students reported that faculties\u27 use of YouTube videos and recording practical aspects in a laboratory/workshop setting deliver practical parts of the course. In this research, Humanities students have reported a positive experience with ERE; however, Engineering students were least satisfied with ERE. Moreover, students rated their perception of ERE as moderate in different areas (e.g., suitability of the online assessment, interactions between faculty and students, skills and knowledge gained, and quality of education). We recommend that government and HEI implement strategies, such as providing laptops and expanding Wi-Fi coverage, to address the challenges listed in the research. As online teaching is expected to continue, such measures are required to implement online classes effectively

    The Main Franchisability Factors for Businesses in Brazil

    Franchising is a system of business expansion that is currently practiced in numerous markets. This system, based on the exchange of experiences and strengths between participants to generate competitive advantage, works with trends and styles in tune with the context of a highly globalized, dynamic and interdependent society. The franchising expansion model holds certain specificities and requirements to ensure the success of its operations, meaning it is not a viable option for every company – especially small-to-medium businesses. Therefore, a research was done to determine the determinants of franchisability of Brazilian small-to-medium companies and their respective relevances, in order to determine which factors have a real relevance in determining the franchisability of a company, and within these factors, which ones are more relevant. Documentary research was done to raise the factors in the literature, as well as multiple case studies to determine the relative relevance between factors and a triangulation with company websites and experts to validate the results. It was concluded that the two factors that have more relevance in the franchise of a company are the business model and the market and the product. On a second level, presenting lesser relevance to the previously mentioned factors, are the branding power, profitability and availability of support for the franchisee. Finally, it was determined that the factors with the least relevance are replicability and standardization, competitive advantages, relationship bilaterality, contractual status and compliance, and corporate culture. Based on the results of this research, entrepreneurs can use the suggestions as an aid in their decision to opt for franchising as a method of business expansion, in addition to analyzing the feasibility of a franchise operation

    Efficient Microstrip Diplexer Employing a New Structure of Dual-Mode Bandpass Filter

    In this paper, a highly efficient design for microstrip diplexer employing a new configuration of dual-mode squared shape bandpass filters is introduced. The proposed diplexer consists of two dual-mode bandpass filters (BPFs), a matching network, which is utilized to ensure that the two BPFs and the antenna port are properly matched resulting in good isolation between the transmitter (Tx) and the receiver (Rx) branches. For the proposed BPFs, the transmission zeros of each BPF are adjusted to the nearest passband center frequency, which makes them very selective to achieve high isolation between the Tx and Rx frequencies. This also provides a low-frequency space ratio and low insertion loss. The proposed diplexer improves the channel isolation, bandwidth with compact size of . Based on this structure, the proposed diplexer has good insertion losses of about  and  at transmit frequency  and receive frequency , respectively. The achieved fractional bandwidth is  at  and  at . The achieved simulated isolation levels are  and  for Tx and Rx frequencies, respectively. The proposed diplexer is useful for several wireless communication applications such as WLAN, GPS and global mobile system (GMS)

    Generation of Synthetic Daily Rainfall Data in Jordan

    This study aims to generate synthetic daily rainfall data for 39 meteorological stations in Jordan by estimating the distributional parameters of daily rainfall occurrence and amounts. Daily rainfall occurrence was modeled by the use of rainfall interarrival times, which were fitted to the one-parameter exponential distribution, except zero values which were represented using the ratio of the number of zero interarrival times to the total number of times, which was called zero ratio. Daily rainfall amounts were fitted to the two-parameter gamma distribution. Goodness-of-fit for one of the stations was tested using chi-square test. This test was performed using Microsoft Office Excel. Distributional parameters were calculated for both occurrence and amounts models, and 100 sequences of synthetic daily rainfall data were then generated, of which every sequence included 1000 non-zero daily rainfall data points (1000 wet days) and 1000 interarrival times (1000 dry spells of which some have a length of zero). These sequences were generated using the embedded random number generators in Python, for one-parameter exponential distribution, two-parameter gamma distribution, and uniform distribution. Percent errors were then calculated and found all to be less than 10%, which was considered acceptable

    Effect of Mentor Mothers Support on HIV Service Utilization Among Sero-Positive Women in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2022

    Background: HIV affects people around the world; especially women of reproductive age group are mostly affected with increased pediatric HIV infection. Strategy like mothers\u27 support group (MSG) is important to achieve elimination of mother to child HIV transmission through empowering HIV positive women. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of mentor mothers’ support on enhancing health service utilization among sero-positive women in selected health centers in Addis Ababa city, Ethiopia. Methods: Quantitative descriptive study design was utilized in seven selected government health centres in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. On March, 2020 around 352 HIV positive mothers participated in the study that selected through simple random sampling method. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24.0 was used to analyse data and frequency tables and Pearson association (95% CI) used to show association between peer support and service utilization; among these women.  Result: From 352 HIV positive women 60.8%   of them were in the age group between 25 and 29 years. The finding revealed that study participant women utilized available HIV related services. They wanted to be MSG member for educational psychological support (74.4%) and 95.0% of them witnessed their satisfactions with the support provided by mentor mothers’. Almost all of study participants agreed that mentor mothers were trusted for confidentiality and 98.6% of participants stated that mentor mothers responded appropriately questions, or they consult health professional for further explanation. Moreover, 95.2% of study participants mentioned that if they missed their regular education session, mentor mothers call or pay a home visit to know members or their infant’s condition. Conclusion: Peer support group is helpful to provide comprehensive care for PMTCT clients and maintain the intended quality of life

    Effectiveness of Adding a Salt Tolerant Crop to the Egyptian Crop Pattern to Adapt with the Water Salinity and Shortage Conditions

    The imbalance between the high water demand and the limited water supplies in Egypt makes water resources management a big challenge. The Mediterranean Sea water intrusion is predicted to increase, causing high water salinity at the Nile delta. A future reduction in the Nile’s water supply is also expected to occur leading to further water stress. Such water shortage will increase the re-use of drainage water which leads to further increase in the water’s salinity. This study aims at adding a salt-tolerant crop to the traditional Egyptian crop pattern. Using quinoa is suggested as an alternative for wheat crop in areas with high water salinity, where the wheat’s productivity is negatively affected. The effectiveness of the proposed crop is evaluated by using the agriculture sector model for Egypt (ASME) which estimates the water demand and the agricultural productivity for different cropping patterns. The results show that quinoa is a good substitution that produces a reliable yield in the case of Nile flow reduction. A base case considering the current water supply conditions is first studied. Then, a 10% reduction in the Nile water supply and the population projection in the year 2030 are presented in two scenarios, one of which considers financial incentives for supporting quinoa. The results show that the Nile flow reduction adversely affects most of crops’ yields, and accordingly, decreases the total crops’ water productivity, but quinoa is found to have a potential high yield in case of water shortage. The total yield of both quinoa and wheat together decrease from 8,643 million tons to 8.223 million tons for the scenario of 10% Nile water reduction without economic incentives, while it jumps to 11.474 million tons  under the same conditions but with  incentives that encourage the farmers to cultivate quinoa
