    Get PDF
Extremophiles are organisms that live in extreme environmental conditions of pressure, temperature, salinity that are considered uninhabitable in comparison to the physico-chemical characteristics of the normal environment of human cells. Extremophiles include thermophiles, barophiles, acidophiles and alkaliphiles. Extensive studies of extremophiles ecology, physiology, and molecular biology have yielded valuable information about life processes with a number of important industrial applications. The study sought to profile the thermophilic bacteria present in the less studied two hot springs of Kitagata and Ihimbo. Water samples were collected in a sterile thermo flask and taken to the laboratory, and then the colonial and biochemical tests were done and in comparison to the Bergey’s Manual of Determinative Bacteriology nine species were identified. The most common were Bacillus spp, Klebsiella spp, Escherichia coli, and Enterobacter spp.  Identification of these thermophile bacteria has become a key step in mapping potential sources of the sought thermo-stable enzymes and also empowered future microbial ecology research and bio-discovery of thermo-stable enzymes that are important in the biotechnological breakthrough

This study investigated sexual harassment of female students in Senior High Schools in the Techiman Municipality, Bono East Region, Ghana. We mainly adopted the quantitative method of analysis. The participants were chosen using a simple random sampling procedure. 720 female students were chosen from six (6) co-educational senior high schools. A questionnaire was the primary instrument used to collect data. It can be concluded, based on the findings of this study that: (i) that the majority of the participants knew about the issue of sexual harassment of female students in schools; (ii) that verbal sexual harassment was the most common form of sexual harassment; and (iii) that that victims of sexual harassment generally feel uncomfortable, stigmatised, and ashamed after being harassed. It is, therefore, imperative that school authorities and managers of the educational system take decisive steps to manage the issue of sexual harassment and its associated challenges that it presents to both victims and the social image of our educational institutions

A New Approach for Examining a Given Number to be a Prime Number

    Get PDF
Any whole number greater than 1 that is divisible only by 1 and itself, is defined as a prime number. Therefore a prime is a number that has only two factors.  The chaotic nature of prime numbers in the set of integer numbers makes it important in today’s world, particularly in cryptosystems. If it was possible to determine the predictable nature of primes, the cryptosystems of the world could crash. There are a number of mathematical arguments backing the fact that it is not possible to predict the nature of prime numbers. So one can only formulate a tool for testing whether a given number is likely to be a prime number. Following the theme, here in this article, we also formulate a method to check whether a given number is a probable prime number or not.  We also derive a connection between the Collatz conjecture and prime numbers

Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Activity of Honey

    No full text
Honey a super saturated concentrated solution with complex constituents has been used as therapeutic agent since ancient times. Natural products have been used as a substitute for various conventional treatments and drug discoveries. They have properties of honey including antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory, anti-cancerous. The advent of antibiotics in Modern Western Medicine has made the use of honey in the treatment of infectious diseases abandoned wound healing. Hence, this review exposes why honey remains the best antibiotic and its potency as an antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory. Honey possesses some vital components such as Methylgyloxal, Bee defensin-1, Hydrogen peroxide, osmotic effect and phenolic compounds. Honey also possesses properties that inhibit the formation of bio films. These made honey more powerful because it prevents the formation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria while conventional antibiotic fail because they only target the essential growth processes of bacteria and this allows bacteria to build up resistance over time

Global construction industry for construction 3D printing(3DP) is a novel technique that has started since 3DP innovation in 1981 while still, this technique has undergone a challenge in Indonesia and Malaysia\u27s construction industry. Applying 3DP in the construction industry has given various benefits more than the conventional construction way. The most witnessed challenges in this technology are printing material, print equipment, stakeholders, and suppliers. Moreover, the absence of standard codes and policies, structural solidity, and extensibility have been over and over referred to as the most critical issues facing the designers. This research introduces the qualitative analysis based on a questionnaire to evaluate the environmental aspects and then analyze it by applying the strategic planning technique SWOT matrix to help identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to this aspect. This research attempted to investigate the environmental aspects of Construction by 3D Printing (C3DP) will be the trending technology in the next 10 years. The research also offers some future research ideas, insights, and recommendations

    Get PDF
Evaluation of the nutrient contents of yogurt products available in Kosovo supermarkets was done as a survey of yogurt products available in the Kosovo’s supermarkets in November 2022. Data were collected from supermarkets and yogurts were grouped into four categories: drinks, probiotic, fruit, natural/Greek. Database of product information for 66 unique products was created and analyzed. The fat, protein and carbohydrate content differed greatly within and across our product categories.  Fat content median (range) were in drinks (yogurts) (2.8 g/100 g (0.5, 3.2)), probiotic (2.95 g/100 g (1, 3.4)), fruit (0.9 g/100 g (0–8.2)) and natural/Greek (3 g/100g (2 – 8)). Yogurts were characterized by total sugar content. Drinks (yogurt) and natural/Greek had lowest sugar content median (4.35 and 4g/100g). Yogurt categories provide customers with a range of protein and fat content, although the yogurt market is distinguished by high sugar level. Reformulation of products to make full-fat yogurts and to add more protein rather than sugar is recommended

Given the importance of the cycle tourism segment, which is in a stage of expressive growth and the potential that Paraná Coast has to welcome this public, the present study aimed to identify the profile, behavior, perceptions and motivations of these cyclists. and cycle tourists. The results showed that the Covid -19 Pandemic period did not influence the decision of starting cycling, but when analyzed separately the portion of those who started cycling after the pandemic period, it was possible to verify that the number of men and women showed an equal result, demonstrating the growing search of women for cycling. The main difficulties for the practice of cycle tourism, as well as the factors that are lacking on the coast, are related to the lack of public policies that provide safe conditions and the encouragement to the practitioners. In addition, cycle tourists demonstrated dissatisfaction with the infrastructure found in the coastal cities. It is concluded, therefore, that cycle tourism is a tourist segment of great importance, since it moves the economy of several sectors and promotes the appreciation of all elements of the visited place. In this sense, it is necessary to reassess actions by the public, private sectors and local communities, in order to achieve the satisfaction of this kind of public

Gender-Driven Agricultural Activities and Crop Diversification Strategies of Char Dwellers in Rangpur, Bangladesh

    Get PDF
Bangladesh is an agriculture-based country. People in this area become victim of different kinds of the climate crisis. To cope with flood or drought, or any kinds of natural disaster the char dwellers adopt different agricultural cropping strategies as they are more vulnerable during climate crises. These kinds of strategies are getting popularity because of the increasing productivity in comparison with previous years. Following the qualitative methodological approach, this study explored the gendered differences between agricultural activities and crop diversification strategies of char dwellers and how these strategies are connected with the private and public spheres. The gender division of labor and discrimination of wages has been noticed in the cycle of agricultural activities. These research findings explored the continuous popularity of sandbar cropping techniques in char areas in both men and women. However, the sack gardening technique is mainly popular among women as these kinds of techniques are adopted to produce vegetables and herbs during the climate crisis, or those who do not have enough land can also produce vegetables using these techniques. The convenience of the sack gardening technique in own yard makes it popular among women as they are staying in the household most of the time. However, raising a bed for paddy and a floating garden with banana tree sail is getting popularity among men as paddy is considered a men’s crop and a floating garden is related to the public sphere. Therefore, gendered roles and relations are considered influential factors in crop choices and crop diversification strategies
