It introduces a hands-on learning approach through a botanical inquiry trail, which engages prospective teachers in various activities, including plant identification, information retrieval, and understanding the practical applications of local plants. It highlights the potential of hands-on, experiential learning activities in promoting effective botany education and motivating future educators. The study involved the administration of pre- and post-activity questionnaires to assess the impact of the trail on participants’ knowledge, teaching methodology preferences, and perceptions of its educational value. Our findings indicate that prospective teachers perceived botanical inquiry trails as active teaching strategies that can improve the learning of botany among primary school students. Prospective teachers expressed a strong preference for nature field trips as a teaching methodology and the activity’s potential to promote social and emotional learning. Moreover, the participants recognised the educational value of the trail in improving learner protagonism, active learning, and investigation tasks. Finally, the results show that this activity can be a valuable resource for educators to engage their students in hands-on learning experiences that promote curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the natural world. This research was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, grant number PID2020-115214RB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011 033.peerReviewe

    No full text
Publicado en: Tourism and Hospitality Research, 2024, versión OnlineFirstThis paper aims to approach the tourists’ affective-cognitive process in a gastronomy tourism experience, splitting experience assessment into sensorial and intellectual realms. Analysing the experiential outcomes associated with quality of life and emotional arousal and highlighting the relevance of future intentions toward the experience and the tasted gastronomic product. An empirical approach was developed. A total of 180 face-to-face questionnaires have been collected form tourists during a cheese fair. Partial least squares-structural equation modelling is used for data analysis. The results confirm the relevance of sensorial elements over intellectual ones in this kind of experiences, being both determining factors of quality of life and emotional arousal. This process leads and encourages positive behavioural intentions toward similar experiences. This study is among the first to highlight and explore the effect of specific experience’s realms and emotions on quality of life and the results of this assessment process on behavioural results, focused both toward the experience and the tasted product, in the context of gastronomic events

    No full text
Water is a limiting factor and to adopt the most appropriate agronomic strategy it is necessary to know the water status. The objective is (i) analysing of the influence of different agronomic treatments on canopy temperature in vineyards with a thermal camera on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), (ii) analysing of the influence of different agronomic treatments on vineyard water potentials with a pressure chamber, (iii) advanced technical feasibility analysis of vineyard crop monitoring. The control treatment (T07) in cv. Grenache consisted of applying 30% of reference evapotranspiration (ETo) with irrigation frequency every seven days and seven different treatments were proposed with different irrigation frequencies, pre-bud irrigation, and vine shoot distribution (T03, T15, T7A, T7V, T7P, T00, and T0P). As a result and in conclusion, the use of thermal cameras in UAVs and mid-day stem water potential allows differentiation between irrigated and unirrigated treatments, but no clear differences were shown between irrigation frequencies, pre-irrigation treatment, or vine shoot distribution. Comparing the thermal camera information in UAV and the stem water potential, certain patterns are identified with significant correlation values, the use of thermal cameras for the evaluation of plant water status is recommended, especially to obtain information in large areas. This research was funded by Project PID2019-105039RR-C41/MCIN/AEI/10.13039/ 501100011033 and AGROS 2022 project subsidized by the Regional Government of Extremadura co-financed by FEDER, and the Ministry of Universities of Spain for University Professor Formation (FPU20/07314).peerReviewe

The aim of this article is to analyse the roles developed by Rahul, a critical cat in the novel The Naked Hours, by Lygia Fagundes Telles, as one of the facets in the game of representation presents in the book. Relationship between depression and physical activity frequency in Spanish people with low, medium, and high pain levels

    No full text
Depression is a mental disorder that causes great discomfort, is associated with unhealthy lifestyle habits, and affects the quality of life. People with pain show high depressive symptoms and a prevalence of physical inactivity. This study aimed to analyse the associations between depression (self-reported depression, depression status, depressive symptoms, and depression types) and physical activity frequency (PAF) in leisure time in middle-aged and older people with different pain levels (low, medium, and severe) living in Spain. A cross-sectional study based on the European Health Survey data from Spain (2014–2020) was carried out, with a final sample of 13,686 people with pain. Associations between depression-related variables and PAF were studied at the three levels of pain, comparing the prevalence of depression as a function of PAF. Regression models were performed to assess adjusted risk factors for depression (self-reported depression and depression status). It was found that PAF was related to depression at all three pain levels. Inactive people at each pain level had higher depression prevalence (self-reported depression, depression status, depression symptoms, and depressive types). Physical inactivity emerged as a risk factor for depression, both for self-reported depression and for depression status. Thus, increased PAF could help prevent or reduce depression and depressive symptoms in people with pain. The author A.D.-Z. Segmentation of 3D point clouds of heritage buildings using edge detection and supervoxel-based topology

    No full text
This paper presents a novel segmentation algorithm specially developed for applications in 3D point clouds with high variability and noise, particularly suitable for heritage building 3D data. The method can be categorized within the segmentation procedures based on edge detection. In addition, it uses a graph-based topological structure generated from the supervoxelization of the 3D point clouds, which is used to make the closure of the edge points and to define the different segments. The algorithm provides a valuable tool for generating results that can be used in subsequent classification tasks and broader computer applications dealing with 3D point clouds. One of the characteristics of this segmentation method is that it is unsupervised, which makes it particularly advantageous for heritage applications where labelled data is scarce. It is also easily adaptable to different edge point detection and supervoxelization algorithms. Finally, the results show that the 3D data can be segmented into different architectural elements, which is important for further classification or recognition. Extensive testing on real data from historic buildings demonstrated the effectiveness of the method. The results show superior performance compared to three other segmentation methods, both globally and in the segmentation of planar and curved zones of historic buildings. This research was funded by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades) under Grant PID2019-108271RB-C32/AEI/10.13039/501100011033; and the Consejería de Economía, Ciencia y Agenda Digital (Junta de Extremadura) under Grant IB20172.peerReviewe

Science in an archaeological museum: emotional analysis of an interdisciplinary teacher training experience

    No full text
The segmentation of different knowledge areas in teacher training often has a demotivating effect which generates unfavourable emotions for their learning. An interdisciplinary approach from different didactics can favour interest and improve affective variables such as emotions, self-efficacy, and attitudes related to future teaching performance. This article presents the emotional analysis of an interdisciplinary experience carried out with students in the second year of a Primary Education Degree, consisting of a didactic visit to an archaeological museum and the performance of scientific activities with history as a pretext. Teachers in initial training expressed positive and activating emotions, mainly curiosity and surprise, while negative emotions hardly appeared Affective differences were explored according to gender and academic background. Correlations were found between emotions and learning, motivation, and didactics.Este trabajo ha sido financiado por el Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades [PID2020-115214RB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033].peerReviewe
