Inquiry into the use of digital technology in elementary music education

    Get PDF
Music education is an important part of a child’s elementary education. There are many types of new digital technologies that are appearing in our schools. Through inquiry research and the use of an online survey, in-person and email interviews,  I have attempted to discover what digital programs or tools are out there to assist with learning the various musical concepts in elementary music curriculum, as well as how digital technology in music curriculum is used to keep the children engaged in their learning. The findings led me to a conclusion that people believe that music education at an elementary level is important, has both pros and cons, and must be used in correspondence with traditional teaching methods.  Digital technology can be beneficial in music education if the teacher understands how to use it properly to promote active and engaged student learning

Digital technology and the arts: Investigating the integration of digital technologies in the elementary art curriculum

    Get PDF
Art is a wonderful way for students to express their creativity and engage in their learning in a new and interesting way. In today’s modern world, the integration of digital technologies has the capability to enhance lessons and provide unique opportunities for students to experience the curriculum. Through the surveying of my fellow teacher candidates, family, friends and an e-mail interview with a subject matter expert, I asked specific questions about the potential positive and negative effects of the integration of digital technology in the elementary art curriculum. In addition, I explored five added sources to supplement my research. As a result of this investigation, I discovered that a balance of new and old technologies is fundamental to the art experience in the elementary art curriculum. It is imperative that technology is not the sole focus and that other traditional art mediums are included in the curriculum. This research project allowed for the exploration of the positive and negative impact of integrating digital technologies in the arts for my future teaching practice. Ultimately, the potential benefits of the integration of digital technologies far outweigh any of the negatives and the opportunities they present are endless

Biography of a runaway slave is the title of the “testimonio” of Esteban Montejo, a Cuban slave, compiled and written by Miguel Barnet. In this text, Montejo expresses his ideas on the Catholic religion, as well as on Afro-Cuban religious beliefs and practices. It is suggested that the ideology of the Cuban revolution is present in the text. The expressions of indiference towards religion can be read as part of a textual message that agrees with the ideas of the revolution.

This research study was designed to investigate teacher and student perspectives on using technology in outdoor education (OE) classes. I wanted to research this topic because I am passionate about physical and outdoor education and was curious to see how technology can be used in OE without taking away from the students’ relationship with their natural surroundings. I think technology can be very beneficial in any subject if used properly and not overused. I created a survey with Google Forms and sent it to education students, education professors, and attendees at the YYC Outdoor Education Networking Day at Connect Charter School on February 10th 2014. Many people who completed the survey said that technology, such as GPS units and computers, can be useful to help students research the outdoors and create projects. I also found that many people believe technology can be a distraction in OE. Overall there are many benefits and drawbacks to using technology in outdoor education

The use of technology in the classroom to assist students with learning disabilities

    Get PDF
The purpose of my investigation was to look into the ways digital technologies can be used in the classroom. My study was focused on the question “how can assistive technology be used in the elementary school classroom to foster inclusive education?”.  The research was conducted through the use of personal interviews, surveys, and statistical data. Results were organized using word clouds, participant quotes and graphs. My research concluded that there are many types of assistive technology that are being used in the classroom. While teachers are not always using this technology consistently, the overall perceptions of my participants were that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. These results show how essential assistive technology is for not only individual students, but a boost the morale of the entire classroom community

Identifying factors related to the prevalence of technological misuse among elementary students

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to reveal the imperatives of introducing effective technology studies and digital citizenship skills in our elementary classrooms. Perspectives from current and future elementary teachers are combined with recent research to analyze student awareness and exposure to common social media dangers such as cyber-bullying, low self-esteem, and gaming violence. This study is important because it sheds light on the average age of exposure to social media among elementary students, demonstrating the gap between educational instruction and student preparation to participate safely in a digital world. Negative technology use is examined in relation to child development and peer relationships, providing insight for emerging teachers on their role in actively engaging Net Generation learners

    Get PDF

    Get PDF

    Get PDF

Two Ideas of Human Nature: Giovanni Pico della Mirandola and Thomas à Kempis

    Get PDF
One of the questions that many people contemplate in their lifetime is the idea of human nature. In this essay I will seek to examine and compare the idea of human nature in the minds of Christian humanists during the Renaissance to that of late Medieval Christian mystics. The Oration on the Dignity of Man, written by Giovanni Pico della Mirandola (Pico) provides an insight into the mind of a Renaissance humanist, while The Imitation of Christ, written by Thomas à Kempis illustrates the thought process that was characteristic of a late Medieval Christian mystic. Pico believed that humans are a great miracle and it is within their nature and capabilities to become something great in the world, something just below the level of God.[1] à Kempis held the belief that human nature, like the idea found in Genesis, was corrupted by the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. It can be found in his writings that he believed that human nature is something that is detrimental to the individual and should be controlled by calling on the grace of God.[2] The different points of view found in the writing of Pico and à Kempis can be traced to the sources of their inspiration. In writing The Imitation of Christ, à Kempis drew his inspiration only from the Bible. Pico, like many other Renaissance humanists, looked for truth about human nature not only in the Bible but also by studying other classical works such as the ancient Greeks and Arabs.
