A wired connection: Parental engagement and digital technologies
Get PDFThis is a research study, which evaluates the impact of digital technologies on parental engagement in elementary education. Parental engagement is critical in children’s education. Parents are incredibly influential in their child’s lives, it is important, then, that we engage parents in the classroom to create a collaborative learning environment that will contribute to student success. This study was conducted by administering surveys using Google Forms through e-mail and the Inspired Learning Network. Participants included parents and teachers throughout Alberta who were randomly selected. This research reveals that the primary method of contact between parents and teachers is through email or blog. The vast majority of participants believe that these digital technologies have improved and positively impacted parent-teacher relationships. These findings mean that we must use digital technology to create positive relationships between parents and teachers. These relationships contribute to a home to school, collaborative environment, which translates to student success in the classroom
The role of digital reading technologies in developing language and literacy skills
Get PDFEBooks and other forms of digital reading technology are becoming increasingly popular in classrooms due to their perceived ability to improve engagement and positively contribute to language and literacy skills. This research study seeks to answer the question: Can eBooks be utilized to help improve early literacy and language skills, and contribute to the engagement of readers? In an effort to answer this question data was collected from an online survey created using Google Forms. This survey data was further analyzed through an interview process. The survey data retrieved provides a surface level understanding of the perceived value of digital reading technologies. The data retrieved from this study indicates that digital reading technologies are convenient and can increase the accessibility of reading materials, but that further research is necessary to determine the specific role of digital reading technologies in improving early literacy and language skills

Inquiry based learning and technology, negative or positive?
Get PDFIn this research paper, the conflicts with the implementation of inquiry based learning and digital technology into an elementary school setting are explored. They are investigated under the grounds of an inquiry-based research study conducted mainly through online surveys. This survey was important because there were two deployed: one to current teachers and one to future teachers. The aim was to discover what conflicts teachers were having with inquiry based learning and whether or not technology was a negative or a positive attribute with the implementation of inquiry based learning (IBL). Also, I wanted to discover what future educators think about their future teaching roles and whether or not they will use digital technologies to help with IBL in the classroom. The participants were Mount Royal University Education students as well as K-9 teachers and staff throughout several schools in Calgary, Alberta. Analysis from the surveys and written responses will document the practicing teacher and future teacher perspectives on inquiry based learning through digital technologies
Equality in education: The digital divide

The question as to whether each child should have equal opportunity to the same quality education is an easy question to answer. However, there are discrepancies and inequalities that remain within our system, and as a result, quality education for learners is being affected. Data for this study was collected through a Google Forms online survey and was sent out via social media. Various interviews were also conducted. The findings suggest that parents, post-secondary students, and other members of society are concerned about equality in education as well as the use of technology in the elementary classroom
Assistive technology for reading and writing, and coping with anxiety
Get PDFIt seems that in the 21st century digital technology has evolved to help, assist, and support students with their learning. I wanted to research about anxiety in students and coping with their struggles in reading and writing because it connects with me on a personal level. I did not have the luxury to use the assistive technologies that are out there today. I wanted to find out the benefits and disadvantages of using assistive technologies with students that have anxiety. I believe researching this topic will help me in my future teaching practice because I will have gained more knowledge about my topic. To obtain some background knowledge about my topic, I had to do some research about anxiety in students and students who have difficulties in reading and writing. Through this background research I now have a better understanding about assistive technology and how it can help students. From my research findings, I learned that yes assistive technology can help students with anxiety and problems with reading and writing, but to not let the students become too dependent on the technology. I also found out to make sure the technology matches with the student because if not then the student will avoid using the technology and anxiety can increase. Another key take away from my findings was that I need to be knowledgeable about the assistive technologies I plan on using with students. If I do not have the knowledge it is not going to help a student who has certain learning needs
Digital technology for elementary English language learning (ELL) students
Get PDFEnglish language learners (ELL) are students who are learning English not as their first, but as second or even third language. A lot of the time these students do not speak English at home because they use their first language as the primary home language. These students may only get the opportunity to learn to speak English in school. In early elementary, kindergarten through Grade three, the primary focus is to develop language and literacy skills which will prepare the students for further educational learning. The old saying is that; first you learn to read and then you read to learn. In this study, I questioned how technology can be used to engage the early elementary ELL students to develop language and literacy skills. I conducted an anonymous survey and an email interview to gather my data. I found my results were inconclusive for determining which technologies would benefit the ELL elementary teacher in helping to develop language and literacy skills. There are many valuable technologies available; however, further research will be necessary to draw any distinct conclusions

Cette sensation de la « première fois » s’étend d’ailleurs au-delà de notre vie quotidienne. La philosophie en porte la trace dans les concepts d’origine, de création ou d’événement. Pourtant, s’ils portent une origine, ces moments se donnent comme de véritables répétitions. Le paradoxe de la répétition à l’origine apparaît d’ailleurs dans un fait linguistique aussi banal que frappant : au théâtre comme au concert, les répétitions tout comme la répétition (générale) ont lieu avant ce que l’on appelle la Première. On ne répète donc pas après la première fois mais avant. Nous pouvons ainsi défendre une conception non-originale de l’origine dans laquelle l’origine elle-même fonctionne comme un double, nous permettant de comprendre que paradoxalement l’originaire n’a rien d’original
