Institutional Investors and Corporate Investment Decisions: The Interplay of Product Market Competition
The study examines the association between ownership structure and corporate investment decisions. We consider different components of ownership structure such as mutual fund ownership and group ownership. Whereas, the corporate investment decision is measured through corporate risk-taking behavior based on the downside capital asset pricing model (DCAPM) of Estrada (2002). Furthermore, this study also tested interplay of product market competition on this relationship through Herfindahl Hirschman index (HHI). The evidence is based on 146 listed firms over the period of 2013-2018. This study considers static regression estimations for data analysis. Consistent with previous empirical studies, the results reveal that institutional ownership, mutual fund ownership and group ownership considerably reduce the corporate risk-taking behavior. Particularly, the results provide some new insights that the product market competition as a moderator significantly weakens the impact of institutional ownership (homogeneous and heterogeneous role) on corporate risk-taking behavior

The agriculture sector is an important component of the Indian economy as it provides livelihood to a large section of the population. The contribution of agriculture has gone down from 52 percent in 1950 to 30 percent in 1990 and 20 percent in 2010.
