    An IoT Based Three-Dimensional Dynamic Drone Delivery (3D4) System

    The next decades will witness a huge growth of cities whether from a population or an infrastructure standpoint. Consequently, services like last-mile delivery will be harder to manage and operate due to the complex city ecosystem (people, infrastructure, and services). Due to the increase in population, more high-rise buildings will be seen in cities. In addition, the rapid growth in information and communication technology will require smart ways to meet the delivery needs of people. This paper proposes a “Three-Dimensional Dynamic Drone Delivery (3D4)” system that aims to enable vertical deliveries by adding an extra dimension (Z-axis) to the conventional two-dimensional delivery systems. The proposed system enables the user to receive shipment anywhere as requested. This system also addresses common delivery problems such as conventional fixed-point deliveries, package security, and enhance customer satisfaction

    Can the Kanban Technique Reduce Medical Errors?

    This study discusses common medical errors and the extent of harm caused in the United States and explores the application of the Kanban technique of Lean Management in the healthcare industry to reduce medical errors. It also describes various scenarios of how the visual scheduling/ signaling system has been incorporated for continuous process improvement in the clinical and non-clinical sectors of the industry based on several review articles. Furthermore, a survey study was performed in order to assess whether ‘Kanban Visual Management System’ utilization in healthcare has the ability to reduce medical errors. A convenience sample of healthcare providers was recruited to obtain an anonymous, online exploratory survey of current awareness of Lean management and Kanban techniques. The results suggest further investigation into Kanban’s applications for reducing healthcare errors is warranted

    Phase II SpacEscape Mobile Game for Learning Space Science 2020 Report

    This project is the phase II of the awarded 2019 Presidential Research Grant Project SpacEscape (PRG 2020-07; https://www.harrisburgu.edu/spacescape/). By working with teachers and students from Mechanicsburg School District, Susquehanna Township Middle school, Crossroads Middle School, and Pequea Valley High school, the research team published the mobile science learning game SpacEscape to Google Play Store, introduced the game to more than 1,000 middle school students even during the pandemic, collected more data to understand how learner conduct problem-solving using mobile games, and presented the research at the Games for Change 2020 Virtual Conference to more than 500 attendees.     Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Unhealthy Eating in Populations with Obesity

    Objective: This study aimed to examine the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on patronage to unhealthy eating establishments in populations with obesity. Methods: Anonymized movement data accounting for roughly 10% of devices in the United States at 138,989 unhealthy eating locations from December 1, 2019, through April 2020 and the percentage of adults with obesity, the poverty rate, and the food environment index in 65% of United States counties were collected and merged. A cluster corrected Poisson spline regression was performed predicting patronage by day, the percentage of adults with obesity in the establishment’s county, the county’s poverty rate, and its food environment index, as well as their interactions. Results: Patronage to unhealthy eating establishments was higher where there was a higher percentage of the adult population with obesity. A similar pattern was observed for counties with a lower food environment index. These disparities appear to have increased as the COVID-19 pandemic spread. Conclusions: These results suggest unhealthy eating patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic are higher in already at-risk populations. Policy makers can use these findings to motivate interventions and programs aimed at increasing healthy food intake in at-risk communities during crises

    Physical Therapy with Adjunct Therapies in Patients with Chronic Pain and Disability Post-Motor Vehicle Accidents

    This project is a thorough literature review of studies concerning physical therapy interventions in conjunction with adjunct treatments for patients post-motor vehicle accidents focused on the therapy’s efficacy as related to functional outcome measures. Physical therapy is frequently treatment of choice for patients after minor motor vehicle accidents. However, most patients seek concomitant therapies like acupuncture, chiropractic, epidural steroid injection, and psychological counselling. This paper seeks to gather data on the efficacy of different treatment modalities when used in conjunction with each other. Often patients are traumatised or develop anxiety about driving requiring counselling and therapy. The vast majority of patients subsequently develop chronic pain that is lifelong, and often debilitating with significant economic and psychosocial costs

    Chronic Migraine: Role of CGRP antagonists and Botox

    Chronic migraine (CM) is characterized by the International Headache Society classification (ICHD-3) as headache that occurs for greater than or equal to 15 days a month, lasting 4 or more hours. For chronic migraine patients, the goal with prophylactic treatment is to prevent future attacks and reduce the migraine frequency and severity. OnabotulinumtoxinA is the most universally accepted medication for the treatment of chronic migraine; and if successful, reduces migraine frequency up to 50%. The goal of CGRP (Calcitonin-gene-related peptide) antagonists is to reduce the frequency of chronic migraines by targeting the CGRP protein that is elevated during a migraine attack. The aim of this study is to further explore the effectiveness of combining CGRP antagonists and Botox for the treatment of chronic migraine. We will analyze data to confirm or deny that migraine frequency is further reduced with the use of both medications

    Smart Resource Allocation Advisor in the Cloud for COVID-19 and Other Pandemics

    Deployment of scarce resources is a critical issue for especially large-scale outbreaks of infectious diseases. During the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare providers are facing the challenges of significant shortages of limited resources such as testing, personal protective equipment (PPE), hospital beds, ICUs, medications and ventilators because of the dramatic increase in the number of patients. Therefore, in this study, we develop “a general smart resource allocation advisor in the cloud” that determines the smart allocation of the scarce resources with respect to the pandemic severity level, from low to very severe, to mitigate and control the spread of the disease. Portfolio model of cost-benefit analysis is used to identify the low cost-high benefit allocations of the resources to focus on more and high cost-low benefit allocations to avoid as well. Therefore, this model provides healthcare providers useful insights about their resource allocations to be more responsive to their patients and control the transmission of the virus
