    A Discrete Resonance Problem with Periodic Nonlinear Forcing

    In this paper, we study the problem Ax=λ1xcv(x),xRnAx=\lambda_1 x-cv(x), x\in\R^n where AA is a Laplacian matrix, λ1\lambda_1 is the principal eigenvalue of AA, cRc\in\R, v(x)v(x) is a periodic gradient vector field, and n=2n=2 or 33. We show that the problem has infinitely many solutions with all positive components and infinitely many solutions with all negative components. With certain restrictions on cc we provide more detailed information about the solution set. In particular, for the n=3n=3 case we prove that the solutions can be characterized as local minima and saddle points of the associated functional

    Constructing r-Uniform Hypergraphs with Restricted Clique Numbers

    Ramsey theory has posed many interesting questions for graph theorists that have yet to be solved.  Many different methods have been used to find Ramsey numbers, though very few are actually known.  Because of this, more mathematical tools are needed to prove exact values of Ramsey numbers and their generalizations.  Budden, Hiller, Lambert, and Sanford have created a lifting from graphs to 3-uniform hypergraphs that has shown promise in extending known Ramsey results to hypergraphs.  This paper will consider another analogous lifting for rr-uniform hypergraphs and investigate the lifting of Turan graphs

    Multimodal Media Production: New Landscapes For Crafting Future Selves

    This article outlines a framework for using multimodal media production (MMP) with urban youth to sketch critical future selves that are collaborative, self-confident, college going, and resilient.  Particularly today with the affordances of digital technologies, MMPs of alternative narratives by youth of color allow a particularly rich form of imagining and exploring different times and spaces, while also developing critical literacies, skills, and dispositions that allow them to actualize affirmative futures.

    Designing Mobile Technology to Enhance Library Space Use: Findings from an Undergraduate Student Competition

    This case study examines a bottom-up approach for developing mobile, location-aware apps to help students discover campus learning spaces and connect with classmates.  An analysis of the competition methodlogy highlights best practices for libraries and other campus units who wish to involve students directly in the design phase of technology development.  Findings details student perceptions of campus learning spaces, and in particular reveal ways to organize and present these spaces to fit students' mental models and improve discoverability of resources like reservable study rtooms, loanable technology, and more

    Statistical Analysis of Yeast Nutrient in Hard Cider Brewing

      In brewing, it is widely known that trace elements, particularly zinc, are required by yeast in order to grow and ferment. The most sensitive and time-consuming step of cider production is the fermentation process, and problems encountered during this process can lead to prolonged fermentation time and the deterioration of cider quality. Several studies have been published on the optimal zinc concentration to increase the rate of fermentation, but few have studied this process in quantities that are practical to the average homebrewer. Furthermore, homebrewers more commonly supplement with yeast nutrient rather than zinc, as yeast nutrient is more widely available and easier to use. Given that the use of zinc in increasing fermentation rate has been so widely studied, it may be useful for homebrewers to know if zinc is as useful in increasing fermentation rate on a smaller scale. In this study, we explore different methods of increasing fermentation rate by supplementing with various levels of zinc and yeast nutrient, as well as a combination of zinc and yeast nutrient. We present statistical models that describe specific gravity as a function of time, identify underlying causes of variability in specific gravity, and determine if supplementing with zinc is an effective method of increasing fermentation rate on a smaller scale. The results of this study show that supplementing with the full recommended amount of yeast nutrient is the most effective method of increasing fermentation rate, while the other treatment levels were not significantly different from the control treatment

    We prove that graph products constructed over infinite graphs with bounded clique number preserve finite asymptotic dimension. We also study the extent to which Dranishnikov's asymptotic property C and Dranishnikov and Zarichnyi's straight finite decomposition complexity are preserved by constructions such as unions, free products, and group extensions

This article presents adventures in management and partnerships as well as lessons learned.
