Fifty years ago, in the autumn of 1913, Bangor High School opened its doors at 183 Harlow Street. The life of this B. H. S. building as a center of learning has spanned half a century in the whirling excitement of our modern world. In the classrooms, at club meetings, during athletic contests -- how many thousands of young people have been prepared to meet adult life by the spirit of Bangor High School!
Yet, Time will not wait for the students of Bangor High School, nor will it return to what has been. Even as the Graduating Class of 1964 leaves Bangor High behind, the other classes eagerly make plans to enter a new and superbly equipped building in which to continue their studies. Although Time may change the appearance and the location of the B. H. Get PDFThe new Municipal Golf Course was completed in time to open the second nine holes on September 19 (the first nine had opened on July 9) and play on the course exceeded all expectations. The maintenance building was completed in September, and the clubhouse was completed in October, so that the Recreation Department will be ready for a full season in 1965.
The announcement by the Air Force of the proposed deactivation of the Bomarc Missile Installation and Dow Air Force Base required a considerable planning effort for the future use of these facilities. This will constitute a major portion of the administration\u27s activities in the coming year.
Probably the single most pressing problem in 1965 and for the next two years to come, will be the planning for the smooth and orderly transition of the use of the facilities at Dow Air Force Base from military to civilian. An excellent start has been made on establishing procedures for this project, and the community has take? a . positive approach since the proposed deactivation was announced. Get PDFThe year 1964 ran the gamut of local and federal approvals of the downtown projects from the filing of Part I of the Application for Loan and Grant in January to the execution of a Loan and Grant Contract in December.
The Kenduskeag Stream project embraces 50.7 acres situated in the central business district. The plan provides for the acquisition of 135 buildings while retaining 63 for conservation and rehabilitation. The assessed valuation of real estate that would be acquired is $4,200,000.
The principal objectives of the Kenduskeag Stream Urban Renewal Project are to preserve the economic vitality of the central business district as a retail center and wholesale market, to meet the demands for new retail floor space forecast in the Marketability Survey, to provide downtown sites for the relocation of existing wholesale uses, to develop new off-street parking areas which adequately support existing and new retail space, and to provide a circulation system which separates automotive from truck traffic and intercity from intracity traffic.https://digicom.bpl.lib.me.us/city_bur_book/1010/thumbnail.jp

For us at the University of Maine in Orono, partial phase will begin at 4: 38 p.m. EDT, when a slim notch will be seen in the western edge of the sun, cut out by the black figure of the moon which will be passing in front of the sun from west to east.
