The S S Iroquis caused quite a bit of excitement last Sunday morning when it ran aground on Bald Porcupine Island right outside of Bar Harbor The Shore Path and Water front were crowded all day with people from everywhere who had rushed here to see the huge liner run aground. Many thought it would be a matter of days before the ship could possibly be floated again, but at five p.m., with the help of full tide and the U.S.S. Owl, which was stationed here as mail base for President Roosevelt who is vacationing in Maine, the huge liner was pulled off the island very little damaged. As this paper goes to press, Bar Harbor is all agog trying to locate President Roosevelt who is reported to be dining at various places on the Island. The town is crowded with reporters, camera men, and secret service men but to date nothing definite has been found out.https://digicom.bpl.lib.me.us/bangorhydro_news/1033/thumbnail.jp

Comrades of All Wars: Bangor --- It\u27s People and History. Memorial Book, Norman N. Dow Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars

Foreword It is the editor\u27s fondest hope, through the presentation of this book, that there may be brought a new point of view upon the cherished memories of the past, and in this broadened perspective find a new inspiration to greater things for Bangor in the future. Not to the great men nor even the students of local history, are these fragments offered; but to those thousands of people here who know their names, but whose angle of vision has been obstructed or even deflected so that they missed the struggle, the hardships, the forebearance, the heroism and the undaunted fortitude of the past that presents to them opportunities for a new and finer vision.https://digicom.bpl.lib.me.us/books_pubs/1190/thumbnail.jp

Sample paragraphs: The picture on the cover of this month\u27s magazine shows the type of cars used when the Bangor Street Railway first started, back in the \u2790\u27s. Mr. Johnson, Superintendent of Transporteaion, states that the motorman shown on the front platform of the car was Capt. Joe Wentworth who was the first motorman to operate on electric car in the city of Bangor, and as Bangor was the second city in the United States to have an electric street railway, Capt. Wentworth was, no doubt, the second man to operate an electric car in the United States. Capt. Joe also helped to erect the trolley wire for the Bangor Street Railway before the cars were put in operation.https://digicom.bpl.lib.me.us/bangorhydro_news/1031/thumbnail.jp
