Historical and pictorial review, 43rd Infantry Division, Camp Shelby, Mississippi, 1942 (152nd Field Artillery Battalion)

    Get PDF
With the decision, following the World War, to organize two National Guard Divisions in each of the nine Corps Areas the 43rd Division came into being. The 43rd was allocated to the States of Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, and in each of the four states units were organized and federally recognized. The three brigades of the Division were allocated so that the control could be centralized to the greatest extent. The 85th Brigade was allocated entirely to Connecticut, and consisted of the 102nd and 169th Infantry Regiments. The 86th Brigade was allocated to Maine and Vermont, and consisted of the 103rd Infantry (Maine) and the 172nd Infantry (Vermont). The 68th Field Artillery was allocated to Maine, Rhode Island, and Connecticut and consisted of the 103rd and 152nd Regiments (75-mm.) and the 192nd (155-mm. Howitzer).https://digicom.bpl.lib.me.us/ww_reg_his/1072/thumbnail.jp

    The Oracle, 1941

    Get PDF
Foreword The Bangor High School Oracle, in its true function, is a students\u27 magazine, published for the students\u27 benefit and entertainment. To that end, it has been the purpose of the current staff to include in the magazine those features which we believe to be of most interest to the students. There has, for instance, been an increase in the number of stories of teen-age boys and girls, in teen-age situation. More humorous poems, as well as serious poetry, have been added and the entire literary section made larger, in the belief that this was the section turned to after Hokum. The new illustrated Fashion Column seem to have been popular, and favorable comments have been received. In the process of enlarging the magazine, new features of interest have been added and other old features of value unfortunately omitted. It is our hope that future staffs, with the help of the students, may be able to strike a true proportion of representative features so that the Oracle may become truly a magazine of the school.https://digicom.bpl.lib.me.us/bhs_yearbooks/1028/thumbnail.jp

Dedication The thousands of vacationists who come to enjoy Maine\u27s famous recreational facilities each year take away with them also a long-lasting respect for our good Maine foods. From their frequent inquiries, it is apparent that very few realize how many of these foods are available the year \u27round in their own communities. So we have prepared this combination recipe book and directory of Maine Canned Foods to make it easy for these good friends to distinguish, in their local markets, the many products packed in the State of Maine from foods grown here and from sea foods caught in Maine coastal waters. Those, too, who have not yet enjoyed first-hand a real Down East meal, but who have a discerning taste for high quality and distinctive flavor in foods, will find it worthwhile to look for the labels of Maine canners when they buy canned sweet corn, beans, peas, blueberries, clams, sardines, crab meat and other sea foods. Annual Report, Bangor, Maine: 1941

    Get PDF
In this report I shall not attempt to emphasize the amount of work or the difficulties encountered because of the National emergency and its impact upon local government administration; but shall give you a plain statement of fact be it favorable or unfavorable. In order to arrive at true values over a period of time it is necessary to make comparisons. The several charts in this report are, therefore, definite comparisons. In reviewing the accomplishments and activities of the City Government during the past year the development of the Airport is seen as outstanding. Although the actual work did not come under City control, excepting that specifications, etc., required City approval, the contribution of $75,000 by the City, supplemented by an additional sum by the Maine Military Defense Commission for the purchase of the necessary land, made the development of an Army Air Base here possible. While preliminary negotiations had been made and considerable construction carried out prior to 1941, the change in construction plans resulted in practically the whole existing development as of December 31 having been accomplished during the past year. During the progress of this work many conferences with Government officials were held and agreements and leases entered into, all of which while cooperative, fully safeguarded the City\u27s interests. The Housing Project on Thirteenth Street, for the accommodation of military personnel, came as a direct result of the development of the Air Base. Again, although the City was not involved in the actual construction, certain agreements had to be worked out and ratified. As one unit of government cannot tax another the City is to be reimbursed by the Federal Government for rendering certain services such as fire and police protection, snow removal, garbage collection, etc.https://digicom.bpl.lib.me.us/city_ban_report/1023/thumbnail.jp
