Romania: Bibliographical database of Romanian journalism and media research related to risks and opportunities for deliberative communication (2000–2020)
The dataset is produced within the framework of the HORIZON 2020 project called MEDIADELCOM (Critical Exploration of Media Related Risks and Opportunities for Deliberative Communication: Development Scenarios of the European Media Landscape) in 2021-2022.
The dataset is one of the 14 single-country data sets included in the consolidated file of country data sets (with 5623 entries), all in msw.xlsx format. All tables are searchable by 20 variables: full reference, year of publication, national/international publication, language, country the publication deals with, time of empirical data gathering, type of publication, open access/not OA, where referenced, focus on journalism domain, focus on media-related competences domain, focus on media usage patterns domain, focus on legal and ethical regulations domain, type of the approach, original key words, main topic, comments, country.
As the data has been gathered specifically about the research done in four mentioned domains concerning potential ROs emanating from the news media development for deliberative communication, this database does NOT cover ALL the academic publications in the fields of media and journalism research. Consequently, the above-mentioned conditions limit the generalizations and comparisons based on the current database

Estonian Teen Language Corpus
Estonian Teen Language Corpus (Eesti teismeliste keele korpus) is a corpus representing spoken and written language data, collected from Estonian teenagers (ages 9-18) between 2019-2023. The corpus consists of four types of files. Spoken language data is represented by .eaf and .tsv files (spoken_eaf.zip, spoken_tsv.zip), and contain transcriptions of recordings made of teenagers' spontaneous speech, where one participant recorded a conversation between themselves and another person or several other people. Transcriptions are annotated on different linguistic tiers, including words, morphology, language, etc (see teke_spoken_metadata.txt). The corpus version 1.0 contains transcriptions of 116 conversations, most around one hour in length. The corpus can be used for addressing various linguistic research questions, as well as training various language technological applications (e.g. speech recognition, dialogue systems).
Written language data is made up of online chats between two teenagers (ages 10-17). Chats are represented by .tsv and .html files (chat_html.zip, chat_tsv.zip). The corpus version 1.0 includes 110 chats. Annotation includes language tags and abbreviations. All personal information has been anonymised.
Estonian Teen Language Corpus is a product of several consequtive projects, which are further described here: https://teismelistekeel.ee/.To access the corpus, please write to Virve Vihman ([email protected])

Effect of Musical Expertise the Perception of Duration and Pitch in Language: A Cross-linguistic Study
This study adopts a cross-linguistic perspective and investigates how musical expertise affects the perception of duration and pitch in language. Native speakers of Chinese (N=44) and Estonian (N=46), each group subdivided into musicians and non-musicians, participated in a mismatch negativity (MMN) experiment where they passively listened to both Chinese and Estonian stimuli, followed by a behavioral experiment where they attentively discriminated the stimuli in the non-native language (i.e., Chinese to Estonian participants and Estonian to Chinese participants). In both experiments, stimuli of duration change, pitch change, and duration plus pitch change were discriminated. We found higher behavioral sensitivity among Chinese musicians than non-musicians in perceiving the duration change in Estonian and higher behavioral sensitivity among Estonian musicians than non-musicians in perceiving all types of changes in Chinese, but no corresponding effect was found in the MMN results, which suggests a more salient effect of musical expertise on foreign language processing when attention is required. Secondly, Chinese musicians did not outperform non-musicians in attentively discriminating the pitch-related stimuli in Estonian, suggesting that musical expertise can be overridden by tonal language experience when perceiving foreign linguistic pitch, especially when an attentive discrimination task is administered. Thirdly, we found larger MMN among Chinese and Estonian musicians than their non-musician counterparts in perceiving the largest deviant (i.e., duration plus pitch) in their native language. Taken together, our results demonstrate a positive effect of musical expertise on language processing
