Unnatural Use of the Sentence-final Particles Ne, Yo, and Yone in Casual Conversation by Learners of Japanese : Based on the BTSJ Japanese Natural Conversation Corpus
Get PDF国立国語研究所 研究系早稲田大学Research Department, NINJALWaseda University日本語学習者にとって終助詞の適切な使用は，日常のコミュニケーションを円滑に行う上で重要である。本研究では，『BTSJ日本語自然会話コーパス（2020年版）』に収録されている，日中接触場面の雑談における日本語母語話者と上級・初級日本語学習者による終助詞「ね」「よ」「よね」の使用実態を場面別に調査した上で，学習者による不自然な用例を中心に考察した。その結果，①母語話者は初対面会話と友人同士の会話とで終助詞の使い分けが明確であるのに対して，上級学習者は場面による使い分けが不明確であった。②上級学習者は，初対面会話と友人同士の会話のいずれにおいても，「よ」を多用する傾向にあった。③初級学習者は，母語話者のみならず，上級学習者と比べても終助詞の使用率が低く，その中でも「よ」と「よね」に関しては，不自然な使用が多かった。④学習者による不自然な終助詞の使用は，「文」としては問題がなくとも，前後の文脈や状況を考慮すると不自然になるものも多く，不自然になる原因を一要因に特定することが困難であること，そのため，学習者の終助詞を使用する際の心理を考慮することも重要であることが明らかになった。これらの結果から以下の4点が明らかになった。①からは，人間関係による終助詞の使い分けと配慮を会話教育に取り入れる必要性があること，②に関しては，「よ」の多用は相手に押し付けがましい印象を与えてしまう恐れがあるため，教育上注意する必要があること，③に関しては，文脈を提示して終助詞を経験的に習得させる必要があること，④に関しては，学習者のコミュニケーション能力の育成につなげるためには，単文レベルではなく，文脈と発話時の心理も考慮した終助詞の指導方法の開発が必要であることである。理論的には，今後，各終助詞の機能を談話レベルの文脈と関連づけて，体系的に説明する方法を探る必要があることが示唆された。In this study, we investigate the use of the sentence-final particles ne, yo, and yone in casual conversation in Japanese-Chinese contact situations taken from the BTSJ Japanese Natural Conversation Corpus with Transcripts and Recordings (2020). We found that: (1) Japanese native speakers used sentence-final particles depending on whether their conversations were with people whom they had met for the first time or with friends, while advanced learners of Japanese did not change the use of these particles depending on the setting. (2) Advanced learners of Japanese tended to use yo frequently both in conversations with people whom they had met for the first time and with friends. (3) Novice learners of Japanese seldom used sentence-final particles compared to both native speakers and advanced learners, and had several instances of unnatural use. (4) There were several instances where learners' use of unnatural sentence-final particles was not problematic as a "sentence", but were unnatural when the context and situation before and after the sentence were taken into consideration, making it difficult to pinpoint the cause of the unnaturalness as a single factor. From these results, we suggest the following four points. To develop learners' communicative competence, it is essential to: (1) incorporate the use of sentence-final particles depending on the interpersonal relationship into teaching about conversation, (2) pay attention to the overuse of yo, because it may give the impression of being pushy, (3) present contexts for learners to acquire the use of sentence-final particles empirically, and (4) develop a method of teaching that considers the discourse-level context and psychological state in the usage of sentence-final particles, and not just its use in a single sentence level. Theoretically, the results suggest that in the future, we need to systematically explain the function of each sentence-final particle in relation to the discourse-level context.application/pdfdepartmental bulletin pape
