    A comparative study of positive behavior interventions and supports in middle schools in South Texas

    This quantitative study examined the relationship between implementation of a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program and academic achievement, attendance, and discipline. The data was collected from schools from South Texas Educational Regions One, Two, and Twenty. The public middle school campuses for this study were chosen based on demographics, size, and PBIS implementation. Campuses were similar in demographics and size and were PBIS implementing campuses as well and non PBIS campuses. Data was obtained through the 2017-2018 Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) published by Texas Education Agency (TEA) for each campus to assess attendance, academic achievement in Reading and Math on The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), and discipline. The design used for this study was a non-experimental study and examined the statistical relation between PBIS, academic achievement, attendance, and discipline. The study investigated two schools from each of the educational regions listed, one school being a PBIS implementing school and the other implementing no form of PBIS. The two groups from each region were compared by attendance, academic achievement in Reading and Math as determined by STAAR, and discipline, through TAPR data released by TEA

    Technical feasibility analysis of using distributed wind energy in residential settings

    The rapid growth in world population leads to more energy consumption. Wind is one of the renewable energy resources that can be used to generate electricity on-site as distributed energy. Distributed wind energy systems provide clean, renewable energy for homes, schools, shops, farms, and facilities in remote areas. One explanation for the lower popularity of wind energy in residential use might be the time consuming and the complex nature of finding right information about utilizing distributed wind energy in residential settings. This research project focuses on detailed technical feasibility analysis of using distributed wind energy for a single house as well as for a small residential community. This project provides detailed information about different components that make up the wind energy production system for a single house and for a small community. It also includes installation procedures of the main wind turbine components in addition to components selection procedures. Simplified energy consumption calculation, wiring suggestions and suppliers are also discussed. At last, a mitigation method that simplifies the workflow for those who want to use wind energy the report is presented. Keywords: Wind Energy, Residential Use, Feasibility Analysis

    In this study visual acuity is defined as the distinctness of vision or the resolving power of the eye. (9,345) This study was initiated for the purpose of ascertaining the visual acuity of the pupils of the Stephen F. Austin Schoo1. The devices used in determining this acuity will be discussed in some detail later in this report. The importance of eye sight among school children cannot be over-estimated. Of all the sense organs the eye is the means most frequently used by the school child in collecting information or in otherwise enriching his experience. (31,3) Moreover, the hygiene importance of the eye is a continuing one, for during the first few years of school life the child's eyes are still in the process of development. As long as the school gives the eye the major roll of fact finding so long will school leaders find it essential to make eye health a major consideration of the school program. School tasks involve continuous demands on the eyes and it is out of the pupil performance of these tasks that eye habits are developed

    The idea of this study grew out of two years' experience in helping construct an integrated curriculum for the elementary grades of the Corpus Christi School System. The social studies were made the core of the entire program since they are thought to be valuable in developing within the child those attitudes and understandings that lead to closer relationships in modern society. (33, 31) Social studies, as used in programs of to-day are not regarded in terms of separate subjects but as a continuous study of life and the socialization of man. At the time the curriculum program was undertaken in Corpus Christi, available funds for the purpose of information materials were extremely limited. It therefore became necessary to make an extensive study of all the reading materials the State of Texas provides for each of the elementary grades. The ultimate result of this study was the listing of the materials of the adopted readers of each grade as they relate to the different topics of the outline of each unit of work

    BALDWIN'S SCALES Since the summer of 1936 the author of this research has been vitally interested in determining the degree of physical development of public school students by the use of Bird T. Baldwin's, Measuring Scale tor Physical Development (Boys) and Measuring Scale for Physical Development (Girls) which are included in Kirkpatrick's, FUNDAMENTALS OF CHILD STUDY (17, 368-9). These two scales consist of norms for height, weight, breathing capacity, weight-height coefficient, and vital-height coefficient for ages 5-17½ inclusive, at intervals of one-half year. The coefficients are quotients obtained by separately dividing the norms tor weight and breathing capacity by the norm for height. The scales also provide space for recording the subject's name, birthdate; and nationality; name of school and examiner, date of examination, and information regarding the student's general health, glands, vaoc1nations1 vision, hearing and posture

    Energy Internet is an innovative concept of the energy system which has aroused the idea of the next generation smart grid. Efficient use of renewable energy, global emissions problems, and surge in power demand are recent challenges in the energy sector. Energy Internet (EI) is an emerging solution for these challenges, as it is the advanced integration of energy, power electronics, and internet technologies. This report reviews a technical and systematic development of the EI system and the framework of EI architecture with their sub-modules. This research also gives the specific exploration of EI approaches in the world, i.e. Internet of Energy (E- Energy), the future renewable electric energy delivery and management system (FREEDM), the digital grid (DG) and ongoing projects. The aim of this research is to present a comprehensive review of the energy internet, with its varying concepts, architectures, applications, and challenges in the energy world. It is concluded that the EI system will hopefully lead to greater efforts towards the progress of the future smart grid system.     Investigating neural patterms for addictive social media and video games interaction through brain signal analysis

    Media has always existed in much of our history, maybe the form and nature of those changed over time but the human nature has always been attracted by the media tools. One of the most popular and addictive media tools of this time is the Social Media and Gaming. They have been existing for less than a decade but are more attractive and addictive in nature. Recent study showed that there are about 400 million social media users. There is a study that estimates 5 to 10 percent of the global population suffers from gaming or internet addiction. Addiction is the neurotic behavior of a person that leads to negative actions. In most cases, people feel attracted to do certain activities so often that it becomes a habit, an addiction, which then disturbs other aspects of their life. So, could there be a ‘Media Addiction’? In short, the answer is ‘Yes’. Studies have shown that Human psychology has the tendency for oneself to be known and appreciated. Each time that happens, our brain takes it as a reward and releases dopamine which makes us feel contented. This release of dopamine may occur more often because of the use social media with the continuous eagerness towards likes and comments. It may also occur each time we win in a video game. In addition, we also study Computer Vision Syndrome in people. For those with an addiction of Media and their focus on computer screens, tablets, e-readers or cellphones creating vision problems which affect millions of people globally. This computer related ocular problem is termed as Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). In this research we further investigate neural data of these media addicts and do a comparison with those of Alcohol addicts as well, to draw a comparison between these two varied iv kinds of addictions. Furthermore, we analyze Electroencephalograph (EEG) signals and affirm our hypothesis that if eye Blink Rate Variability (BRV) is a good indicator of human attentiveness then human attention can be directly correlated to CVS and Media Addiction

    Deep learning using computer vision in self driving cars for lane and traffic sign detection

    In the last few years, the amount of research in the field of self-driving cars has been immense with autonomous vehicles clocking in more than 10 million miles and providing a plethora of data to be trained and tested. The most complex part of training is the use of computer vision for feature extraction and object detection in real-time. There has been a lot of research done on improving the algorithms in image segmentation and keeping the user alert by scanning their facial expression. The proposed idea presents the use of Convoluted Neural Networks using Spatial Transformer Networks and lane detection in computer vision to improve lane detection in real time and to increase the efficiency of autonomous vehicles. The depth of the neural network will help in training the vehicles and during the testing phase the vehicles will learn to make decisions based on the training data. In case of sudden changes to the environment the vehicle will be able to make decisions quickly to prevent damage to lives. Along with lane detection, the self-driving cars must also be able to detect the traffic signs which is done using the Adam Optimizer which runs on top of the LeNet 5 architecture. The LeNet 5 architecture is also compared with the Feed Forward Neural Network. The accuracy of the LeNet 5 architecture was 97% and the accuracy of the Feed Forward Neural Network was 94%. Hence, it is proved that the accuracy of the LeNet5 architecture is better than the Feed Forward Neural Network

    Recycling feasibilty and cost analysis of garbage collection operation: case of the city of Kingsville, Texas

    The amount of garbage generation increases with increasing population. So, there is a primary need to find an economical garbage collection operation and its recycling feasibility. The main aim of this research is to study the feasibility of recycling pickup operation and cost analysis of garbage operation. For accurate result more amount of garbage data of around thirteen-month is used for data analysis. Regression analysis and curve fitting graphs are used to determine which factors are related to the amount of garbage. In the end, sensitivity analysis is performed to evaluate the different scenarios of the pick-up plan of generated garbage and recyclable. Outcome of this study will propose once in a week garbage pick-up with once in three weeks recyclable pick-up operation to achieve economical result. Cost benefit analysis is performed for each pick-up operation to evaluate breakeven point and once in three weeks recyclable pick-up operation takes 3.97 years to recover initial investment

    A framework for the execution of automated regression testing for web applications

    In our society, web-based applications are becoming more prominent every day by offering internet services around the globe. Unlike traditional software, web-based applications change more frequently with advancement in technology stacks and the problems that can arise with these web applications can be identified with regression testing. This work aims at investigating web-based application automation through regression testing and continuous integration with Jenkins. The work includes the integration of allure reporting with a maven project to gain a better understanding of test cycles across different test cases written in Java language using TestNG framework with the help of Selenium web driver. This proposed test framework was faster than the previous standard JUnit framework by an average of 0.4 seconds. The performance of web applications is also monitored across different platforms for multiple browsers in the proposed framework and study is conducted on different browsers about the test execution time
