A proposed plan for reorganization of public schools of Willacy County, Texas
Willacy County, located in the southern tip of Texas, is bounded on the south by Cameron County, on the west by Hidalgo County, on the north by Kennedy County, and on the east by Laguna Madre. It was created in 1911 from Cameron and Hidalgo Counties, organized in 1912, and named after J. W. Willacy a prominent South Texan who served in the Legislative from Corpus Christi. (10,463
The inter-American conference at Mexico City, February 21-March 8, 1945
Upon the invitation of the government of Mexico, the Inter-American Conference on Problems of War and Peace convened in the historic city of Mexico on February 21, 1945 and continued in the session until March 8, 1945. It was not one of the regular series of the Inter-American Conferences, but was an extraordinary meeting called, as was set out in the invitation issued by the Mexican government, to enable to governments represented to consider means of intensifying their war efforts, and to secure their collaboration for a future world organization. It was also desired to strengthen the Inter-American system and the economic solidarity of the Continent

There is reason for belief that problems associated with diseases and nutrition are eternal ones and that, as such, they will continue in spite of all human efforts. Since the summer 1944 the writer has participated in a program of Child Study sponsored by the Corpus Christi Texas Independant School District. Doctor Daniel E. Prescott and his stuff from the Human Development School at the University of Chicago have serve the needs of all children with whom they come to contact. Buck (6) discussed the first year of the program as it was carried on in two of the Corpus Christi elementary schools. Other schools of the system underwent experiences quite similar to those outlined by Buck in his thesis
First steps in revision: primary language arts, Kingsville public schools
The first grade had just come in from play one day last spring when a knock at the door turned thirty-four pairs of eyes in that direction. A woman stood in the doorway, and in her hands she carried a large flat cardboard box which was covered with a cloth. Queer little whispering noise were coming from the box. The situation was becoming interesting: "I brought something which I thought your children would like to see." the woman explained to the teacher, as if it had not been pre-arranged. Thirty-four faces were question marks which become oral questions, thick and fact, after the visitor had gone. "What is it?" "What is in the box?" "Will you let us see?" "May I open it?" "Perhaps we had better come to the circle", suggested the teacher. The children took their places in the circle at the front of the room, some in small chairs, and some sitting cross-legged on the floor. When all were comfortable, Henry, a timid little boy, was chosen to remove the cloth
Continuous variation in frequency by use of a reactance tube
In the study of reactance tubes as in the study of other problems of physics, various problems arise as to how and why these tubes work. A problem in the science can be solved, but it is of no value until it can be put to some practical use. Therefore, the value of any tool in science is toward the development of mankind. Research physicist and mathematicians have explained the reactance tube and why it will react as an inductance or capacitance but very few uses have been found other than the production of continuous variation in frequency. There are two other uses, frequency modulation and automatic frequency control, but other than these three there has been little value found for the applications of such a tube
Simulation and sustainability analysis of acetone manufacturing processes: cumene process and defydrogenation of isopropanol
Acetone is a widely used solvent. Industries such as the pharmaceutical and the cosmetics industry, among others, use acetone as solvent in their operations. In the semiconductor industry, acetone is used as a cleaning agent. The increase in activities of these industries has led to an increase in demand of acetone. The acetone manufacturing industry is an energy intensive one. In a world with limited resources, there is a need to optimize the use of resources such as energy and water to ensure sustainability. This research aims to perform sustainability analysis on two different acetone manufacturing processes. The two acetone manufacturing processes that were investigated in this research are the cumene to acetone process and the dehydrogenation of isopropanol to acetone process. Both processes were simulated using ASPEN Plus process simulator. Heat integration analysis was performed on the ASPEN Plus results for both acetone manufacturing processes. Utility cost savings from heat integration was developed. 54% of utility cost was saved in the cumene to acetone process. Also, 66% of utility cost was saved from the isopropanol to acetone process. Corresponding water conserved from heat integration was also monitored. Capital cost before and after heat integration was also calculated. Finally, net present value and return on investment before and after heat integration on both processes were investigated
The proposed Nicaragua Canal
This thesis presents in a brief, concise manner the story of the Proposed Nicaragua Canal. It sets forth some of the interesting facts concerning the early history and exploration of Central America. There have been several treaties entered into concerning this proposed Isthmian Highway. These are discussed in a brief, informative manner. The proposed plans for such a canal are presented along with the suggestions of the United States Government Engineers who drew up the plans. The thesis closes with the presentation of the military and economic aspects of such a project
Some international aspects of the water problems of the lower Rio Grande Valley
Since the beginning of irrigation in the Lower Rio Grande Valley that region has developed into a thriving agricultural section with a population of about 190.000. The development has become so extensive that the question of water supply for irrigation has become very vital, not only to future growth, but to the life of the present Valley. This subject is of national interest, because practically every state is represented by families in this area or purchases winter vegetables and citrus fruit there. Furthermore, it is an international problem because Mexico is developing the Valley south of the Rio Grande. As more water will be needed to supply these new irrigation projects, the water supply of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, but also to Mexico.
Previous to 1904 the entire Valley was practically devoid of profitable agriculture because of a lack of moisture or ample water supply. It was a stretch of semiarid prairie, literally infested with bandits and cattle rustlers, where law and order were practically unknown. This condition of lawlessness existed largely by virtue of the fact that since 1845 the Rio Grande has served as an international boundary between the United States and Mexico. The lawless desperados from the United States and Mexico found immediate refuge across the border
