Back to “for future use”? Oral history, pandemics, and the present’s urgent documentation
This article proposes a reflection on the methodological challenges presented and faced by oral history research as a result of the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and the physical isolation it entailed. It conceptualizes and focuses on actions for the present’s “urgent documentation,” arguing that they are neither a discontinuation in relation to oral history research traditions, nor a return to the documentary ambition that marks the very emergence of the practice of oral history– but a practice that merges plural methodological principles and theoretical propositions developed from the use of the method. Finally, the article assumes the construction of narrative communities and the creation of visibility of experiences of subjects and groups in situations of vulnerability as public commitments that are imperatives for researchers in and of the present, for whom technology presents itself as a challenging ally
Embodied cartography and participatory observation: vulnerabilities and opportunities in the mapping of political-communicative processes
We consider the concept of "embodied cartography" as a methodological and ethical gesture for the generation of data and the analysis of communicative-political processes enacted by citizen participation processes, such as social movements. By articulating feminist epistemology of vulnerabilities, post-representational notions of social cartography, and principles of observant participation, we propose a strategy for mapping conditions of possibility and performativities that enable us to distinguish different topographies of political participation.
We apply this approach to a case study on the anti-psychiatry movement in Brazil, unveiling how the interaction between the vulnerabilities of the cartographer and the participants paves the way for innovations in social knowledge and democracy. We highlight not only the challenges and opportunities of this approach but also its potential to unfold situated theoretical and conceptual insights, such as our emerging concept of "anti-psychiatric creolization"

Neo-Roman Republicanism in J. S. Mill’s conception of freedom
For this, this article refers to a work by Mill that is not associated with his theory of freedom, the work The Subject of Women
Ergonomic Product Design: An Empirical Study on The Influencing Factors to Use and to Buy
Ergonomic design in various types of products has been introduced in many countries. This study is aimed at observing the intention to use and to buy ergonomic products. A conceptual model of intention to use and to buy ergonomic product design is developed based on the Technology Acceptance Model. Dimensions and construction of the model are developed based on the literature and an experiment. Eight hundred and three respondents were involved by filling out the questionnaire, consisting of 7 dimensions and 23 statements. The result shows that perceived design, perceived comfort, perceived social image, perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness influence the intention to use ergonomic product design. The intention to use will influence the intention to buy, which finally influences the continuance to use. Implications of the result are discussed.
Deo Leadership: How Design Executive Officers Lead Creative Organisations in Korea
The purpose of this study was to investigate how Design Executive Officers (DEOs) manage creative employees. It differs from prior leadership research in creative industries in three ways; it focused on DEOs, specified their influences on organisational level, and discovered Korea-specific insights. We conducted in-depth interviews with the seven DEOs who have run their own design agencies for over ten years and hired more than 50 employees in Korea. Our thematic analysis of the 287 quotations collected revealed that 75% of the quotations fit the existing leadership framework and the remaining 25% are two unique attributes of DEO leadership: attitudes toward deeds and business growth. Our findings contribute to the academic discussion on design driven entrepreneurship by shedding light on the changing role of designers in the entrepreneurial landscape
Anarchism in times of political transition: the defense of student and worker self-management (Brazil, 1977-1989)
At the end of the 1970s, via the opening process that signaled the weakening of the civil-military dictatorship in Brazil, new political proposals were taking shape, among which the resumption of projects of anarchist tones that channeled part of their ideological propaganda in defense of freedom and against authoritarianism. Through the creation of a range of printed materials, such as the newspaper O Inimigo do Rei, founded in 1977, in Bahia, new anarchist perspectives would be promoted, in which the defense of self-management – largely supported by the collectivist experiences carried out by workers during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) – became the master key for the organization of the student and worker movement in Brazil. Furthermore, in the 1980s, several libertarian expressions that mixed demands arising from counterculture were promoted in different regions of the country. Therefore, such a scenario of revolutionary yearnings, whose driving force was in the youth, outlined new paths for the Brazilian anarchist movement that, between its initiatives, included the attempt to rebuild the Brazilian Workers Confederation. In view of this, drawing on the alternative and libertarian press, as well as official documentation produced by the censorship and repression bodies, this article aims to sketch some reflections on a lesser-known period in the history of the anarchist movement in Brazil, highlighting its cultural production and the organization of collectives and libertarian meetings aiming at social transformation through self-managed socialism
At Home with AI: Artificial Intelligence and Friendly Power in the Post-COVID Home Office
The global pandemic saw millions of workers shift to working from home, a situation that has now become the new normal for many. This article examines the way artificial intelligence has filtered into this sphere of labor. AI technologies are now leveraged in writing, emailing, image editing, research, and dozens of other home office tasks. And yet, contrary to depictions of AI power focused on top-down domination, AI’s permeation into this domestic space has been quieter and more collaborative. AI technologies promise to adapt to the worker, augmenting her productivity and increasing her professionalism. Drawing on Byung-Chul Han’s notion of “friendly power,” I show how AI becomes compelling to workers by being convivial, personal, and flexible. This strategy appears successful in integrating AI into new forms of labor and also key to recognize when developing critical approaches to technical power. Any alternative program must be aware of how AI technologies empathetically address the needs of the neoliberal subject. The global pandemic saw millions of workers shift to working from home, a situation that has now become the new normal for many.
Definitions of peace as a social and political phenomenon are based on studies that present their own concepts and specific epistemological components. They empirically state nature and social function of peace. Education for Peace, as a continuous and dynamic pedagogical process, constitutes its own field of knowledge, which aims to build culture and pedagogy of peace as a system. The main goal is to describe the landmarks that generated Education for Peace, its evolution and imprint in human action, in an attempt to identify ways to train the pacifist educator in her work in the educational field, as well as in their global action and in the commitment to life in all its senses. Considering these guidelines, descriptive research was carried out, accompanied by a bibliographic survey of the state of the art. We point out readings correlated to the historical course of Education for Peace, going through its objectives and ethical nature, with the aim of interpreting desirable ways of creating commitments towards the challenge of Education for Peace as an ethical imperative for the common well-being.
