Drugs Used In Lower 3M Coronectomy: Recommended Situations And Pharmacological Groups – A Scoping Review (Protocol and Published Study)
In the last years the literature about lower third molars coronectomy was expanded. However, it was not possible to find an article that compiled informations about a drug protocol for this surgical technique. Thus, the main objective with this scoping review will be to compile and synthesize information about the use of drugs in coronectomy procedures, to elucidate the necessity of medications when performing the technique. A secondary aim will be stablishing a pharmacological protocol for the coronectomy if the results show a necessity for use of medicines.
Final study and publication update
The protocol registered in this project initially proposed to map all pharmacological agents used in mandibular third molar coronectomy procedures, including antibiotics, analgesics, and anti-inflammatory drugs. During the study selection and data extraction phases, it became evident that the literature addressing non-antibiotic medications was highly heterogeneous and inconsistently reported, which limited the feasibility of synthesizing evidence across different pharmacological groups.
Therefore, the scope of the review was refined to focus specifically on antibiotic therapy associated with coronectomy procedures. This refinement allowed a clearer synthesis of the available evidence regarding prophylactic and postoperative antibiotic use in mandibular third molar coronectomy.
