Effectiveness of Goat Urine Liquid Organic Fertilizer with Different Empon-Empon Starters on The Quantitative Production of Odot Grass
This research explores the utilization of goat urine as the main ingredient in the production of Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF), enhanced with herbal additives (empon-empon) as natural fermentation starters. The study aims to provide an environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers by transforming goat farming waste into productive agricultural input. Two herbal starter formulations were developed using ingredients such as ginger, turmeric, papaya leaves, sprout extract, and coconut water. These formulations were applied to Odot grass (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Mott) as the test crop over a 30-day period. Growth parameters including plant height, number of leaves, fresh weight, and dry weight were measured and statistically analyzed using Independent Sample T-Test. The results showed no significant differences between the two treatments across all measured variables, although starter A showed a slightly higher average performance in fresh and dry biomass production. The findings suggest that both formulations of LOF are viable and contribute to sustainable agricultural practices by improving soil fertility and promoting healthy plant growth through natural inputs
Literature Review: Skin Aging in the Ederly Population
Skin aging is a progressive degenerative process characterized by a decline in the structural and functional capacity of the skin to maintain its protective, regenerative, and homeostatic roles. It is influenced by both intrinsic factors, such as genetics, telomere shortening, mitochondrial dysfunction, hormonal changes, microbiota alterations, and decreased vitamin D production, and extrinsic factors, including ultraviolet radiation, pollution, smoking, oxidative stress, and lifestyle. Clinically, skin aging presents with thinning, dryness, loss of elasticity, fine to deep wrinkles, pigmentary changes, and benign skin lesions. The increasing elderly population, particularly in Indonesia, highlights the growing importance of addressing skin aging due to its impact not only on physical health but also on psychosocial well-being and quality of life. Management strategies include pharmacological approaches such as sunscreens, moisturizers, vitamin D and collagen supplementation, retinoids, and hormone replacement therapy, as well as non-pharmacological interventions including antioxidant-rich nutrition, hydration, allergen avoidance, wound care, dietary restriction, facial massage, and aesthetic procedures like stem cell therapy. Early prevention, timely recognition, and comprehensive management of skin aging are essential to support healthy aging and maintain the quality of life among the elderly
Development of PjBL-based Canva Teaching Media with STEM approach to Improve Students' Critical Thinking
Science is a subject that contains activities to understand the universe through observation and using specific procedures to get a conclusion so that it will be more meaningful and can help improve the quality of human resources if implementing learning that allows students to develop knowledge and the ability to apply their knowledge in dealing with problems in everyday life. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of Canva teaching media based on Project-based Learning (PjbL) with the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) approach to increasing students' critical thinking. Based on predetermined characteristics, analyze the validity of Canva teaching media based on Project-based Learning (PjbL) with the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) approach to increasing students' critical thinking, and analyze the effectiveness of Canva teaching media based on Project-based Learning (PjbL) with the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) approach to increasing students' critical thinking. This study is development research with the ADDIE development model. The ADDIE model has five stages, namely Analysis, Define, Design, Implement, and Evaluate. The data analysis used in this research is the RASCH model, Anacova test, and t-test. The results of the study can be concluded that the characteristics of Canva teaching media contain the syntax of the PjbL learning model, namely determining fundamental questions, planning product design, preparing a product manufacturing schedule, monitoring project progress, assessing results, and evaluating with detailed explanations integrated in conventional biotechnology science subjects. The feasibility of teaching materials is declared valid in terms of material, media, language, and learning with a validity of 0.89 and feasible to use in science learning to improve students' critical thinking skills. The results of the effectiveness test can be declared effective in improving students' critical thinking skills
Extraction and Characterization of Moringa Seed Oil Results from Soxhletation and Screw Pressing
Moringa seed oil is a vegetable oil that has many benefits for health and the pharmaceutical industry. Moringa seed oil can be extracted either chemically or mechanically. This research aims to characterize moringa seed oil’s physicochemical properties and fatty acid composition using soxhletation chemical extraction and screw-pressing mechanical extraction with various pretreatment temperatures of 50, 60, and 70°C. The research showed that the highest yield of moringa seed oil, 41.74%, was obtained at an initial treatment temperature of 70°C using the soxhletation method for 6 hours. The acid value of moringa seed oil from soxhletation is 2.01 mg KOH/g, and screw pressing is 4.37 mg KOH/g. The iodine number from soxhletation was 66.62 mg iod/100g, and screw pressing was 60.27 mg iod/100g. The density of the oil from soxhletation and screw pressing is 0.922 mg/mL and 0.934 mg/mL, respectively, with an oil viscosity of 3.298 cP and 3.424 cP. The results of GC-MS analysis show that moringa seed oil from soxhletation has an oleic acid composition of 40.92%, while the screw pressing has an oleic acid composition of 22.50%. This finding demonstrates the influence of extraction methods on the fatty acid profile, particularly the concentration of oleic acid, a key component of moringa seed oil. These results contribute to understanding how specific extraction techniques can optimize the quality of moringa seed oil
The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of Kepundung Leaf Methanol 96% Extract (Baccaurea racemosa) Using The In-Vitro Test
Excessive sun exposure can reveal harmful effects on the skin. One way to prevent these effects is by using Kepundung (Baccaurea racemosa) a plant known for its antioxidant properties. Several studies have shown that the antioxidant activity of kepundung leaf extract has a very strong IC50 value, making it potentially a sunscreen. However, research on the Sun Protector Factor (SPF) value of kepundung leaf extract has not been reported. Therefore, this study will conduct to determine the SPF value of the extract. Compound extraction will carry out using the sonication method with methanol solvent. The extract obtained was analyzed for SPF value using UV-Vis spectrophotometry and the SPF value will calculated using the Mansur formula. The various concentration of kepundung leaves extract revealed various SPF from minimal and ultra protection. Kepundung leaves extract with concentation 500 ppm have ultra protection with SPF value 15.19. The Kepundung leaves can to be developed as natural SPF
Water Pollution Index in the Ekas Bay Floating Net Cage Area as Part of Sustainable Aquaculture
Fish cultivation using the Floating Net Cultivation (FNC) system had the potential to create nutrient enrichment around the cultivation location. The large amount of nutrient input in marine waters can cause algae blooms also known as eutrophication. If this condition continues to occur, biota diversity will decrease and cause the seas to lose their function, so before that happens, it is considered to periodically monitor the pollution index in the Ekas Bay FNC area. The aim of this study is to analyze the pollution index in FNC area in the waters of Ekas Buana Village. The value obtained can be used as a basis for managing the area to create sustainable and sustainable use. The research was conducted in Ekas Bay, Ekas Buana village, East Lombok district on June-September 2023. The parameters observed were physical and chemical water quality parameters. The data that has been collected will be analyzed descriptively and presented in the form of tables and graphs. The parameter value obtained was the only one that passed the quality standard based on PP No. 22 of 2021, namely orthophosphate. Phosphate is indeed abundant in marine waters, but it will cause blooming if the total supply of ammonia nitrogen is excessive. From the pollution index, it was found that the East station, which is the coastal littoral area, is classified as moderately polluted, while the other stations are classified as lightly polluted. The sources and quantities of the pollution need to be identified to facilitate control and prevent further pollution
Bibliometric Analysis of Bioactive Agents for Anemia Treathment: Trends and Opportunities
Anemia is a global health problem affecting approximately 1.62 billion people, mainly in developing countries. Although iron supplementation is the main strategy, the use of biological agents as an alternative to traditional medicine has potential that has not been fully explored. This study aims to map the research landscape of biological agents as anti-anemia using bibliometric analysis. The study used a library research method by analyzing metadata from Scopus indexed articles for the period 2000-2024 using keywords related to anemia and traditional medicine. Data were analyzed using VOSViewer software to visualize the network and relationships between article citations. The analysis showed 208 relevant documents, with a significant increase in publications after 2010. China dominated with 55 publications, followed by India with 40 publications. The VOSViewer visualization identified three main clusters grouping different plant species, with some plants such as Curcuma longa, Aloe vera, and Hibiscus sabdariffa frequently associated with the treatment of anemia. The analysis also revealed many unexplored areas of research, especially in plant species that have not been commonly studied. This study concludes that of the more than 200 plant species with anti-anemia potential, many have not been comprehensively studied, opening up opportunities for further research especially in countries with high biodiversity such as Indonesia
Structure and Composition of Urban Forest Stands of Pulau Bungin, Teluk Kuantan City, Kuantan Singingi District
The existence of urban forests should be referred to as a place to preserve the environment, seeing from the start of the density of settlements that cause less and less space as a place to preserve the environment. The Bungin Island City Forest area in Koto Teluk Kuantan Village is one of the potential tourist destination objects to be offered when tourists visit Jalur City. The aim of this research was to examine the structure and composition of the stands in the Bungin Island City Forest, located in Kuantan Singingi Regency. The research method used systematic sampling method by collecting data directly at the research location. Variables observed were the number of individuals, diameter and height of trees. Vegetation data collection was carried out using the creation of a square plot unit measuring 20 m x 20 m with the determination of the plot location using systematic sampling with random start, namely taking sample plots systematically and randomly started. The data that has been obtained is analyzed descriptively quantitative which is done to obtain a clear picture of the state of the urban forest. The results of the study obtained 23 plant species in the urban forest of Bungin Island with the highest importance value index (INP) is duku plant with a value of 47,10 at the tree level, which means that this plant is the dominant species in the urban forest of Bungin Island. The conclusion of this study shows that the urban forest of Bungin Island is composed of 23 species grouped in 20 families and the composition of the stand is composed of 228 plants with the highest canopy statification in stratum C (subcanopy) followed by stratum B (canopy), stratum D (understory) and stratum A (emergent)
Enzyme Activities and Growth Abilities: Exploring Wood Decay Fungi in Banyuasin Oil Palm Plantations
Wood fungi, frequently identified as the cause of Wood Rot Disease, produce enzymes that break down key components of plant cell walls, such as cellulose and lignin, allowing the fungi to act as pathogens. This study aims to identify wood fungi present in oil palm plants in Banyuasin, South Sumatra, and to test their growth abilities on various types of wood and enzyme activites (ligninase, cellulase, and hemicellulase). The research methods consist of isolation using an exploration method, morphological identification, and enzyme activities tests (cellulase, hemicellulase, and ligninase). Wood fungus isolation used Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) media. Fungal morphology was identified macroscopically and microscopically. The data obtained from fungal morphology observations, fungal growth on wood, and enzyme activity were analyzed descriptively. A total of 11 isolates were obtained. Isolates A6, A7, and A11 showed high enzymatic activity, particularly in breaking down lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose, which potentially causes BPB in oil palms. The cellulase enzyme activity, measured with CMC substrate, indicated that isolate A6 had the highest value (157.30 U/mL), followed by A8 (151.75 U/mL), while A10 had the lowest value (20.58 U/mL). Using Avicel substrate to measure hemicellulase, isolate A10 showed the highest value (108.67 U/mL). For ligninase measured with tannin substrate, isolate A4 had the highest activity (59.89 U/mL), and A10 had the lowest (2.42 U/mL)
Assessment of Lead (Pb) Bioaccumulation in Seluang Fish (Rasbora sp.) and Water Quality Analysis in Miai Riverysis of Lead (Pb) levels in Seluang Fish (Rasbora Sp) in the Miai River in Banjarmasin City
The waters of the Miai River are located in a densely populated residential area with a variety of household activities and landfills (TPS), one of which is hazardous waste containing heavy metals. Heavy metal lead (Pb) is dangerous because it is toxic. The study's objectives were to quantify the lead concentration in seluang fish and water and ascertain the correlation between fish weight and lead levels in water. The Miai River's waters served as the site of the study. Purposive sampling was used to collect water and seluang fish samples. The Pb concentration was determined using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) after samples were collected from two stations three times. The results of Pb content in river water at station 1 averaged around 0.00589 mg/L and station 2 averaged around 0.00690 mg/L and the results of Pb levels in seluang fish at station 1 averaged around 0.00333 mg/kg and station 2 averaged around 0.00600 mg/kg. This means that river water and seluang fish are contaminated with Pb but still below the quality standards set, so they can still be utilized according to their designation and are still safe for consumption. The relationship between Pb in fish and fish weight shows a correlation coefficient of r = -0.598, meaning that the correlation is unidirectional and Pb in water with Pb in fish correlates r = 0.439, indicating a relationship with a moderate level
