    Phytochemical Screening of Suji (Pleomele angustifolia) Extract

    Phytochemical screening of Suji (Pleomele angustifolia) extract has been conducted. The aim of this research is to identify compounds and determine the antioxidant activity of suji  extract. The method used is laboratory experiments for phytochemical screening and antioxidant activity testing. This research consists of 2 (two) stages. The first stage aims to obtain extract of suji by using ethanol plus ethyl acetate and the second stage is carried out to test the content of secondary metabolite compounds using phytochemical tests and determine the antioxidant activity of extract of suji using the DPPH method. The extract of suji positively contains terpenoids, whereas flavonoid and  alkaloids are detetcted in a significant number. The DPPH test results obtained the equation y = 0.3492x + 12,059, indicating that the antioxidant activity of suji extract of  is classified as moderate as the IC50 value of the extract of suji is108,65 pp

    Formulation and Evaluation of Red Betel Leaf (Piper crocatum L) Ethanol Extract 96% in Anti-Acne Cream

    Acne (Acne vulgaris) is a common skin problem experienced, especially by teenagers and young adults, which can lower self-esteem. One causes is bacteria Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Red betel leaves (Piper crocatum L) are known to contain active compounds such as flavonoid, tannins, alkaloid, and essential oil that effective as antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agents. The aim of this study is to formulate and evaluate a topical cream containing a 96% ethanol extract of red betel leaves (Piper crocatum L.) as an anti-acne preparation. This study employed a laboratory experimental approach, formulating an oil-in-water (O/W) type cream by varying the concentrations of the emulsifiers stearic acid and triethanolamine (TEA). The physical properties of the cream were assessed through organoleptic evaluation, homogeneity testing, pH measurement, spreadability, adhesion, viscosity, cream type identification, and mechanical stability testing. The results that formula IV with an extract concentration of 12.5%, stearic acid 17%, and TEA 3.5% produces the most optimal results, with stable physical characteristics, homogeneous, and meeting topical cosmetic standards. Thus, 96% ethanol extract cream of red betel leaf has potential to be used as alternative treatment for acne based on natural ingredients

    Antibacterial Effect of Honey Against Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media Patients and ATCC Bacterial Strains in Vitro

    Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus are common causative bacteria in Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM). Honey, as a natural substance, has shown antibacterial activity. To evaluate the antibacterial effect of honey at different concentrations on P. aeruginosa (clinical isolates and ATCC 27852) and S. aureus (ATCC 29213) compared to ofloxacin. An experimental in vitro study using post-test only design was conducted. Bacterial isolates from CSOM patients and ATCC strains were exposed to honey at concentrations of 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100%. Zone of inhibition was measured using the agar diffusion method. Honey exhibited significant antibacterial activity against all tested bacteria. The highest inhibition zones were observed at 100% concentration. Ofloxacin showed greater inhibition than honey in general, but honey still demonstrated moderate to strong activity. Honey has potential as a natural antibacterial agent against P. aeruginosa and S. aureus, and may serve as an alternative or adjunct treatment for CSOM

    The Relationship Between Age and Comorbidities (Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension) and Hearing Loss in Women Over 40 Years of Age

    Hearing loss is a public health problem that increases with age and can be exacerbated by comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension. This study analyzed the relationship between age and comorbidities (DM type 2 and hypertension) on hearing loss in women over 40 years old. A cross-sectional analytical study of 34 women over 40 years old in Kotamatsum IV Village, Medan. Hearing examinations were performed using pure tone audiometry and otoacoustic emission (OAE). Statistical analysis was performed using the Chi-Square, Mann-Whitney, and Kruskal-Wallis tests. There was a significant relationship between age and the degree of hearing loss (p=0.047), with the majority of subjects aged >50 years experiencing mild deafness. However, no significant relationship was found between comorbidities of type 2 DM and/or hypertension on the degree, type of hearing loss, or OAE results (p>0.05). Age was significantly associated with the degree of hearing loss, while type 2 DM and hypertension did not show a significant relationship. Further research is needed considering disease duration and treatment adherence to further understand the contribution of comorbidities to hearing loss

    The Impact of Integrating Discovery Learning and Differentiated Instruction on Students’ Critical Thinking Skills in Heat and Temperature Topics

    Critical thinking is essential in contemporary times as it trains students to analyze, evaluate, and make logical and reflective decisions. This study aimed to determine the effect of discovery learning integrated with differentiated instruction on students' critical thinking skills. This research employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were 30 ninth-grade students of SMPN 4 Sentajo Raya. Data were collected through pretest and posttest assessments using critical thinking questions on temperature and heat. The results showed that the average pretest score was 48 and the posttest score was 78. Based on the paired samples test with a significance value (2-tailed) < 0.05, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted. This indicates a significant difference in students' critical thinking skills before and after implementing the discovery learning integrated with differentiated instruction

    The Effect of Implementing Problem-Based Learning based e-Worksheets Assisted by Flip PDF Corporate on Higher Order Thinking Skills

    This study aims to describe the effect of implementing problem-based learning-based e-worksheet assisted by flip PDF corporate on students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTs). Higher-order thinking skills in this study are measured using seven indicators: targeted thinking skills, theory formation, hypothesis formation, reasoning, analysis/evaluation, elaboration, and problem-solving. This digital-based learning innovation emerges as a response to the demands of the 21st century, which emphasize the importance of critical, analytical, and creative thinking skills in addressing real-world problems in daily life. The e-worksheet used not only presents learning materials in an interactive and engaging manner but is also designed to encourage students to explore concepts, connect knowledge, and solve context-based problems relevant to daily life. Additionally, the use of flip PDF corporate enables the presentation of materials in a more dynamic and easily accessible format via digital devices, thereby supporting flexibility in the teaching and learning process. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Kalianda in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely grade XI Merdeka 6 as the experimental group and XI Merdeka 5 as the control group. The research method used was quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group design. The results of the study indicate that there is an effect of the implementation of e-worksheet based on problem-based learning assisted by flip PDF corporate on students' higher-order thinking skills. This is indicated by the average N-gain score for the experimental class of 0.67 in the moderate category and the control class of 0.29 in the low category. The results of the independent sample t-test showed a sig. (2-tailed) value under the assumption of equal variance of 0.00 < 0.05. Additionally, the results of the Effect Size test calculation showed a value of 2.24, categorized as high. These findings confirm that the integration of digital technology in the form of e-worksheet based on problem-based learning is not only capable of creating more engaging and interactive learning but also capable of optimizing students' cognitive potential. Therefore, it can be concluded that e-worksheet based on problem-based learning assisted by flip PDF corporate has a high influence in enhancing students' higher-order thinking skills

    Analysis of Science Education Students' Self-Efficacy in Developing Learning Products Through the Project-Based Learning Model

    Developing innovative learning products demands high self-efficacy from prospective educators. The Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model offers the potential to develop this competency, yet its impact on the self-efficacy of postgraduate students requires in-depth analysis. This study aims to analyze the self-efficacy levels of Master's students in Science Education in developing learning products (presentations, videos, and a book chapter) implemented through the PjBL model. This study employed a descriptive method with a mixed-methods approach. Data were collected from 11 students through a Likert-scale self-efficacy questionnaire and open-ended responses, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The results show that students' overall self-efficacy is high (mean score > 4.18), with slightly higher confidence in asynchronous tasks such as video production (4.24) and writing a book chapter (4.25). The main finding identifies a gap between the very high motivation and growth mindset and the lower self-efficacy in higher-order thinking skills, particularly in data analysis and applying theory to practice (lowest score 3.82). It is concluded that PjBL is effective in building self-efficacy and motivation, while also successfully identifying crucial areas for professional development. Therefore, it is recommended that future PjBL implementation be enriched with more focused guidance on strengthening analytical and synthesis skills to optimize the competencies of future science educators

    The Effect of Giving Shallot Extract (Allium Cepa L) and NPK Fertilizer on the Growth of Green Mustard Plants (Brassica Juncea L)

    Plant growth and development require nutrients, which can be given through fertilization in the form of organic or inorganic fertilizers. This study aims to determine the effect of providing shallot extract, NPK fertilizer, and a combination of both on the growth of mustard greens. This study used a two-factorial, Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of NPK fertilizer and shallot extract treatments, each using five levels with three replications. The parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, plant fresh weight, and plant dry weight. The data obtained were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and continued with the Duncan multiple range test. The results of the ANOVA test showed that the main factor of NPK fertilizer obtained a value of (sig) ˂ 0.05, the main factor of organic fertilizer was red onion extract, and the interaction factor obtained a value of (sig) ˃ 0.05. The study results showed that the administration of NPK fertilizer can increase plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, wet weight, and dry weight of green mustard plants. The administration of shallot extract can increase plant height and the number of green mustard leaves. Still, it cannot increase green mustard plants' leaf area and wet and dry weight. The administration of a combination of NPK fertilizer and shallot extract cannot increase plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, wet weight, and dry weight of green mustard

    The Effect of Implementing Interactive Learning Media Based on Virtual Laboratory on Student Learning Outcomes in Force Topic

    Learning media is a teaching aid that educators can use to convey lesson material, increase student creativity, and increase student attention during the learning process. This research examines the effect of implementing interactive learning media based on virtual laboratory on student learning outcomes in force topic at SMP Negeri 1 Gorontalo. This research uses an experimental method, and the research design used is a group pre-test and post-test design. The subjects of this research were 30 students in each class divided into three classes: experimental class, replication 1, and replication 2. The data analysis techniques used are normality, hypothesis, and n-gain tests. The results of the hypothesis testing criteria were T-count ≥ T-table with a level of ∝ = 0.05 for the experimental class, replication 1, and replication 2; therefore, Ho is rejected, and Ha is accepted. This is also supported by the acquisition of the course average normalized gain for all sample classes, both experimental and replication classes, which fall into the high and medium categories in the experimental class (0.71), replication 1 (0.70), and replication 2 (0.66). Data analysis shows that the average post-test score for the experimental and replication classes is higher than the pre-test. This indicates that virtual laboratory media improves student learning outcomes in force topics. This research concludes that using interactive learning media based on virtual laboratories can be an effective alternative for improving the quality of science learning in schools

    Potensi of Tobacco Stem Insecticide as Pest Control in Crops

    Tobacco is one of the most widely cultivated commodities in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), especially Virginia tobacco. The leaf part is utilized as the main raw material in the cigarette industry. However, other parts of the plant, such as tobacco stems, are generally not used and only become agricultural waste that has no economic value, and has the potential to pollute the environment. In fact, tobacco stems have great potential as a vegetable insecticide that has proven effective in controlling various types of pests. This study aims to explore the potential of tobacco stems as a vegetable insecticide in pest control. The method used is a literature review by referring to various sources, including scientific journals, books, news, and related research and implementation. The results showed that tobacco stems contain secondary metabolite compounds, such as nicotine, saponins, flavonoids, and terpenoids. These compounds function as contact poisons, repellents, and disruptors of pests' metabolic, nervous, and respiratory systems. As a result, these compounds can cause body damage, inhibit the life cycle, and even death in insect pests, such as Aphis sp. aphids, Bemisia tabaci, Plutella xylostella, and other pests. In conclusion, tobacco stem extract is an effective solution for controlling pests in cultivated plants. Its use can reduce the population and intensity of pest attacks due to the content of chemical compounds that are toxic to insects
