    Protocols for the micropropagation of two traditional medicinal plants Eclipta alba (L.) and Eupatorium adenophorum (L.) from nodal segments were developed. Proliferated microshoots of Eclipta alba and Eupatorium adenophorum were obtained through axillary branching by culturing nodal segments in modified MS medium and half strength of MS, respectively, with minimal strength of nutritional support. Simultaneous rooting could also be induced in the same medium. Regenerated rooted plantlets were successfully acclimatized in soil where they grew normally without showing any morphological variatio

    A long chain alkylated ;1-methylene-;3-butyrolactone from Artabotrys odoratissimus fruit

    As part of our ongoing programme for isolation of bioactive molecules from the flora of the Indo-Burma biodiversity belt, an unusual long chain alkylated �-methylene-�-butyrolactone was isolated from the juice of ripe fruit of Artabotrys odoratissimus R.Br. Its structure was determined as 3-methylene-4-pentadecyldihydrofuran-2-one by spectroscopic methods. It was found to have good antifungal activity against Alternaria tenuissima Kunze Ex Pers. isolated from solasodine producing plant Solanum khasianum Clarke. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC)and IC50 for 3-methylene-4-pentadecyldihydrofuran-2-one were found as 300 and 51.37 ;Cg/ml, respectively.
