This research paper looks into the teaching-learning process in the School of Dentistry of  Rosario University, through an opinion survey carried out among the professors and students from different courses. The teaching methodology,  the didactic actions, the didactic resources, the colaborative work and the rol of the students in class, the pedagogical interventions and the knowledge acquisition were related with a pedagogical model supported by professors using both, the totality of the answers given by the students in a specially designed questionnaire and their class observations. The general results proved that the teaching model preferred by professors was the behaviourist model, even though professors claim that this model is constructivist. The other variables also coincided with the behaviourist model. In relation with their own practices with the students and other professors from the same course, an assessment of pedagogical participations of the professors was carried out. This showed that the evaluations were done by approximately half the professors. These findings enable us to think about the teaching-learning problems in our School and also to redefine our work along to axes: the conceptual and the attitude –procedural, with the purpose of improving qualitatively and quantitatively the different aspects of the new profile of the “School Hospital” proposed by the School. Recibido:  Feb.2010 |  Aceptado:  May.2010Para citar este artículo:Espejo, Teresa. Development and urbanization have brought about various changes and modalities in man/animal relationship. The interest in the study of this new relationship and its consequences is growing. . A descriptive epidemiological study of people with canine bite injuries was carried out from 2006 to 2008 in Arequito, Santa Fe, Argentina. A hundred and five injured people were interviewed -67% were adults, 21% children and 12% teenagers. Eighty-four percent of the lesions were located in the limbs, especially the lower ones (67%). The most common sites of attacks were public, 75%, and 46% of the attacks were caused by known dogs. Sixty-seven percent of biters were male. Aggressions were mostly from adult animals (83%), in general through chase associated with predation (48%). Thirty-six percent of animals had history of attacks to people. A typical victim is an adult male with lesions in lower limbs caused in streets by adult, medium-size male mongrels. No fatal victims were recorded but the severity of attacks was established by those children with facial lesions that required suture. Recibido:  May.2010 |  Aceptado:  Ago.2010Para citar este artículo:Alfieri, Arsenio. Our work puts forward some guidelines to understand the level of social conflict in the companies taken over by workers. By “level of conflict” we mean troublesome situations which cannot be characterized either as endogenous or exogenous without falling into a reductionism, since this would prevent us from grasping the complexity involved in the sociopolitical network of relationships within these companies. In particular, we emphasize the role of “post-neoliberal” state public policies and, at the same time, the action of the different movements grouping them, marked, as they are, with political and party goals, which brings about both fragmentation and anxiety to the worker groups and hinders their view of feasible efficient options.

    No full text
AbstractAn environment with no flies and the presence of free hens could originate a special ecologic situation with influences on the improvement of productive and behavioral parameters. To analyze this hypothesis it was decided to observe, to register and to evaluate behavioral patterns that could suffer variations in the group of animals kept under Llovera´s method (hens on floor being 10% of the caged ones) compared with  control animals kept in cages as in the Traditional Method (no hens on floor). A 15 minute individual observation of 24 randomly selected hens was made in a hen house where 2,000 red-colored laying hens were caged before (as control group C) and after (as Llovera group J) delivering discarded hens on floor. The behaviour register was made on designated lists for the purpose. The ethogram of the animals of both groups was made by means of an ad-libitum sampling to identify behavioral patterns expressed in the conditions of the study and a focal sample to evaluate the presentation frequency of each conduct. The test of Shapiro-Wilks was used with the results obtained to verify the normality of the differences. From these results Student´s Test was used on paired samples with normal distribution, and Wilcoxon and Sign Tests for the others. This preliminary report includes results corresponding to spring season. The behavioral patterns studied in groups C and J correspond to: kinetc behavior (to extend a wing or a leg), exploratory (to scrape on floor, to look around, to peck the cage), alimentary (to eat, to drink, to regurgitate), antipredatory (to vocalize, to suddenly be quiet), agonistic (to peck on neighbor caged hen), grooming (cleaning of feathers with the beak, scratching with the leg), eliminatory (excreta evacuation), rest (to lie down with the head on the body, to flex a leg ). The Test of Shapiro-Wilks showed that “to extend a leg”, “to scrape” and “cleaning of feathers” have normal distribution. From these results t Test is used on paired samples, under the hypothesis that the mean of such differences among the observations made before regarding to those made after is higher than 0 (zero). Significative differences are not observed at 5% being the resultant means lesser or equal to 0 (zero). Other variables were analyzed using the Test of Wilcoxon for paired samples because of the lack of normality. The variables were: “to drink”, “to be quiet”, “pecking”, “to evacuate” and “to look”, with significative differences at 5% existing a lesser presentation in the Group “J” regarding the “C”. The presence of free hens on floor and the consequent decrease in the number of flies were the only differences in production conditions between the Groups “C” and “J”. So, the modificatios in the behavior of each group should be attributed to those conditions. The higher frequency of some of the studied patterns before placing hens on floor would show that the presence of them modifies the behavior of caged hens. However, it is necessary to complete the analysis of the corresponding data of the other seasons of the year to conclude on the influence of these changes on the animals´ welfare. Conflicts of interest in scientific research can lead to serious moral deviation. They occur when the research design, the collection or the production of results are linked to compensation for authors in relation to the degree of success of the project. También puede proporcionar un parámetro útil para estudiar la adhesión como un factor de riesgo en pacientes con trastornos de la microcirculación, como diabéticos; pacientes hipertensos y personas obesasAbstractRed blood cells can adhere to a solid surface by means of adhesion molecules that can be linked to erythrocyte membrane receptors, as it is the case of hyaluronate molecules, which bind to the CD44 receptor on the erythrocyte membrane. The objective of this work was to measure the specific energy (gd) of the erythrocyte hyaluronate receptor (CD44) to its hyaluronate ligand, under dynamic conditions. For this purpose, a controlled flow chamber, installed on the stage of a microscope was used and microscopic images were digitized and processed with a digital image processor (DIP) connected with a charged coupled dense (CCD) camera. Calculated specific energies were within the values determined for other types of cellular adhesion. Methodology proposed allows for a simple, quick, reproducible, and non-conventional way of estimating the specific adhesion energy. This would indicate that the method used to determine the adhesion specific energy is convenient to be applied not only in this case but also in other types of intercellular adhesion. It can also supply a useful parameter to study adhesion as a risk factor in patients with microcirculatory disorders such as diabetic or hipertensive patients and obese people. The aim of this research was to establish the correlation between dental caries and the black stain, both in deciduous and mixed dentition.A cross-sectional study was practiced to determine the prevalence of chromogenic bacteria in the mouth, and their relationship with teeth pigmentation and caries index.A total of 433 children aged between 3 and 10 years old were examined at the Servicio de Diagnóstico de la Facultad de Odontología de Rosario. The Study group comprised 18 children with black stain while the Control group comprised 18 stain-free children. Dental plaque and saliva samples were taken from both groups and black stain samples were taken from the Study group. All the samples were cultured in specific media for anaerobic pigment-forming bacteria. Variables were established and the data from clinical and dental history, and bacteriologic results was statistically analyzed. The examined population had no obvious evidence of decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMF-T= 0); however, they suffered from some respiratory disease (bronchial spasm, retropharyngeal mucus and otitis, oral habits like fingersucking, onychophagia and mouth breathing).A correlation was observed between dental caries and black stain; the cultures showed the presence of Prevotella and Porphyromonas, and there was a significant incidence between stained surfaces with respiratory diseases and oral habits. Recibido: Ago. 2008 | Aceptado: Oct. 2008AbstractThe aim of this research was to establish the correlation between dental caries and the black stain, both in deciduous and mixed dentition.A cross-sectional study was practiced to determine the prevalence of chromogenic bacteria in the mouth, and their relationship with teeth pigmentation and caries index.A total of 433 children aged between 3 and 10 years old were examined at the Servicio de Diagnóstico de la Facultad de Odontología de Rosario.
