Constructive Instability and Operation Unified Protector: The Destruction of the United States-Led World-System
In 2011, NATO ended the 42-year-long rule of Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi, and plunged the country into over a decade of unending strife, while an arc of crisis emanating from Libya struck much of the region. This study examines the United States\u27 geostrategic approach in the Libyan intervention to illustrate the dialectic intersectional relationships between processes of globalization, American hegemony over the world-system, and American foreign policy in the post-Cold War period (1992-2024) with consideration to world-systems analysis to characterize the United States post-Iraq warfighting strategy in Libya as an adaptation of the purposeful destabilization of Afghanistan and cultivation of an international jihadist network from 1979-1989.
In the absence of ambition or capability to secure Libya in the periphery of the United States-led world-system, the destruction and abandonment of long-term strategic goals in Libya is characterized as a pursuit of full spectrum dominance by way of destruction of emergent Libyan hegemonic capabilities and institutions as mandated by the Wolfowitz Doctrine to maintain America’s slipping unipolar global hegemony. The Libyan crisis proves to be highly influential on the inauguration of a post-2011 period marked by a decline in American hegemonic capability which is in dire need of reflection, or it will prove to be a predictive microcosm of the terror and suffering a continuation of belligerent unipolar militarism will bring in a multipolar world
Enhancing YouTube Spam Detection
This culminating experience project investigated various methods for enhancing spam detection on YouTube, a prevalent issue impacting user experience and platform integrity. The research questions addressed were: Q1) How do different spam detection methods compare regarding robustness, efficiency, and accuracy? Q2) What role do deep learning approaches like RNNs and CNNs play in improving spam comment identification? Q3) What are the unique benefits of using deep learning models for spam comment identification on YouTube? Q4) How can machine learning models be optimized for real-time spam detection on YouTube?
The study gave adequate findings that explained each research question. In the case of (Q1), while algorithms like the Naïve Bayes and Logistic Regression offered precision in identifying spam emails, the models have proven ineffectual at adapting to new forms of spam and constant enhancement in spam techniques, deep learning algorithms like the CNN and RNN offered high accuracy through their robustness due to the models\u27 abilities of feature extraction independently from the text data. The results shown in (Q2) indicate that RNNs and CNNs are critical in transforming the level of spam detection by addressing the problem of semantic meaning and temporal relationships in comments and surpassing traditional methods. Concerning (Q3), it was pointed out that deep learning models are the most accurate, scalable, and resistant to false negatives when identifying spam comments on the videos hosted on YouTube, which helps regain users\u27 trust and enhance the platform\u27s security as the traffic continues to grow. (Q4) was focused on advancing machine learning models for real-time processing, using methods such as model pruning and distribution.
The findings were as follows: (Q1) found that although conventional approaches are efficient at meeting accurate results, deep learning models are highly effective in dealing with the changes in spam strategies. (Q2) pointed out that RNNs and CNNs contribute immensely to discovering spam in SM platforms due to their raw power in NLP and pattern recognition. (Q3) established that the deep learning models\u27 accuracy, scalability, and adaptability, including CNN and RNN, are beneficial in identifying spam on YouTube due to their effectiveness in tackling the ever-evolving spam tactics. (Q4) It has emerged that the fine-tuning of machine learning models is imperative for scaling up the approaches by deploying high-end methodologies for real-time spam detection, which subserves the daunting task of training the algorithms to deal with the flood of user-generated content in the context of YouTube.
Areas of further study include analyzing other complex natural language processing methods combined with classifiers for better spam identification, improving the computational time for multi-modal learning for spam comment detection, and considering federated learning for real-time spam identification on platforms such as YouTube. These research directions are being carried out to boost the existing permutations and improve the permeate spam detection technologies in Information Systems so that they can be efficient, effective, and highly accurate systems capable of coping with the newly emerged spam technologies in flexible, transparent, and effective ways
A Question of Womanhood
Ideologies surrounding gender and sexuality have shifted drastically within the past several decades as cultural perspectives broaden to be more inclusive of individuals belonging to communities, all with unique lived experiences. Recent discourses around womanhood and who is considered as “woman enough” have caused intercommunal tensions between White women, women of color, and LGBT+ women. This essay will explore how the rhetoric around who is and who is not a ‘real’ woman has remained the same but not which groups it has targeted, as well as examine the history of the conditional nature of womanhood from the mid-nineteenth to mid-twentieth centuries. Beginning with Indigenous American women, who have had their traditionally respected status as women stripped from them, and Black women, who have had to fight for their humanity since the nation’s “founding”, the concept of womanhood has been weaponized to exclude women of color. Since the 1960s when LGBT+ people began to fight for recognition, transgender women have had to prove their womanhood and fight on all sides against the narrative of who was allowed to be a woman
BARRIERS TO GENDER-AFFIRMING CARE
The purpose of this study was to examine the experiences of transgender and nonbinary individuals who have accessed or are thinking of seeking gender-affirming medical care in a rural California county. The study adopted a post-positivist approach, and data was gathered from ten qualitative interviews with study participants. In the data analysis phase, the researcher utilized a bottoms-up approach and engaged in open, axial, and selective coding. Data analysis of qualitative interviews revealed sixteen open codes and connections between these codes. These codes were then categorized into three themes: the impact of an individual’s experience when accessing care, barriers to gender-affirming care in a rural area, and client-centered suggestions for mitigating barriers to care.
After examining the data, the researcher identified the need for a culturally competent, individualized, and inclusive approach to gender-affirming a rural California county as the core concept arising from the data. This concept is explored, and transgender and nonbinary participants propose suggestions for achieving this. These suggestions include updating medical forms to be inclusive, implementing robust, culturally competent training for medical providers and their staff, and offering an individualized approach to care that meets the needs of the individual and their transition. This research contributes to both micro and macro levels of social work by highlighting the experiences and needs of transgender and nonbinary individuals in rural California. This can impact clinical practice and aid in creating and implementing inclusive provider policies
